Cecilia Vaughn had no idea that after she left, the beautifully packaged box of macarons met such a fate.

If she knew, she’d probably just sigh helplessly.

——What a waste of food!

Minus ten thousand points for impression!

…

Cecilia went to the post office opposite the main gate of the university to send off Bella Prescott’s transcripts, and then chose to head to the subway station to take the subway home.

In fact, she’s been trained by Adrian Law to drive during this period.

Adrian told her that a girl should also learn to drive and not be afraid of driving.

Because it’s not just about convenience, someone like Cecilia, who’s been trained in taekwondo and has decent skills, could find it much easier to get away in a car than on foot if something happened suddenly.

Knowing how to drive can sometimes be a means of survival.

On the other hand, Cecilia also wanted to keep a low profile.

After all, at Stellerton University, there were many diligent students, and some wealthy peers came in luxury cars, but for some reason, people always mocked those who drove nice cars.

Saying things like showing off wealth or competing.

Sometimes when Cecilia heard these sour remarks, she found it very speechless, but the waves she’d already stirred up at school were enough.

Better to avoid unnecessary trouble.

Adrian had indeed bought her relatively low-profile cars, like a Volkswagen Phaeton or an Audi.

But driving those might still trigger mockery, as Adrian’s and Cecilia’s wealth was already well-known among the university populace.

Being deliberately low-key might also seem like having ulterior motives?

The power of speech always lies with others, and Cecilia couldn’t be bothered to stir up more trouble; if neither Wyatt nor Adrian came to pick her up, she usually chose the subway.

After all, though the distance from Stellerton University to Starfall Bay wasn’t near, the subway had a direct line, with a train every ten minutes or so, which was very convenient.

…

Just as Cecilia was about to head down the subway stairs, a phone call suddenly came through.

It was from a completely unfamiliar number, and Cecilia furrowed her brows, feeling inexplicably uncomfortable, as she never gave her number to strangers, and the people on her blacklist were few.

Cecilia thought it was likely one of those blacklisted people trying unwillingly to contact her.

Without hesitation, Cecilia pressed the hang-up button.

But the other side was persistent, and the phone kept ringing nonstop. Cecilia considered directly blocking the number.

However, she thought again, blocking it wouldn’t solve the root problem; they’d just switch to a new number to harass her, which was a headache.

So Cecilia found a relatively quiet corner in the subway waiting area and directly answered.

“Hello, may I ask who is this…”

Before Cecilia could finish, a thunderously angry voice sounded on the other end.

“Cecilia Vaughn, you ungrateful daughter!! I’ve been sick for a week, and you, as my biological daughter, don’t even come to see me!”

“You leave a pregnant woman like Fiona, with her big belly, to take care of me. How can you be okay with that?!”

Cecilia paused, recognizing the voice on the other end as Gregory Vaughn’s, and a trace of sarcasm flickered in her eyes.

“Gregory Vaughn, are you trying to say I’m not fit to be your daughter?”

“Yes! That’s right! You ungrateful wretch, I raised you amidst hardship, and now that you’re grown, you repay kindness with animosity, not even recognizing your father!”

“You raised me? Ha… that’s the biggest joke in the world!”

Hearing Gregory’s repeated accusations of ingratitude and betrayal, Cecilia was truly weary of listening.

“I’m really sorry, but you’re not even sixty yet, how is your memory so flawed?”

“In the past, it was clearly my mother who raised me; you didn’t bother with these trivial matters. If my mother wasn’t around, it was my grandparents or the nannies.”

Thinking about the nannies she encountered at the Vaughn Family in the past, Cecilia felt an extra layer of pain in her heart.

Initially, Cecilia didn’t understand why those nannies, who took salaries from the Vaughn Family, dared to neglect her and Evan.

But later, she realized that perhaps the only ones truly kept in the dark were her and her mother; everyone else had long seen that Gregory had a pretty mistress elsewhere.

A woman without status, often seen by others as having all financial control in Gregory’s hands, and even her two children, would easily be neglected.

Later, when Cecilia’s mother died, Fiona and her mother successfully entered the family, and those nannies’ attitudes grew even worse.

One by one, even if Evan was having a medical emergency needing 911, they shirked responsibility.

These incidents were all deep wounds in Cecilia’s heart.

She could never forgive them.

At most, she could prevent hatred from consuming her, keeping herself from living daily in resentment.

…

Gregory, hearing Cecilia’s long silence on the other end, thought his words had made her guilty, becoming even more conceited.

“Cecilia, for the sake of you still being my daughter, transfer five million to me now; I need it for treatment!”

“What illness requires five million?!”

Even if Cecilia didn’t currently have five million in liquid assets, even if she did, she wouldn’t give it to that scumbag Gregory!

He betrayed her mother’s entire life and left immense shadows over hers and Evan’s childhood.

“You! How dare you! I’ll go to court and sue you for not supporting your parents!”

“Sorry, you still have the ability to work, right? I don’t mind; you can sue. The court will at most order two hundred a month, and if you think that can bring you peace of mind, I’m okay with it.”

In fact, Cecilia didn’t even want to give that, because she felt Gregory was dirty!

Two hundred?!

How could Gregory possibly be satisfied with such a petty amount?!

Gregory became even angrier.

“Compared to Fiona, you really fall short by ten thousand miles! Even pregnant, she sent me money.”

“Yes, she’s your good daughter. I wish you both perpetual happiness.”

Without waiting for the other person to speak, Cecilia hung up the phone.

Cecilia rubbed her throbbing temples, calming herself for some time before stepping into the subway.

She needed to go home and pack for her and Adrian’s trip to Zentaria; although Adrian said there was no need to bring anything, Cecilia always felt that without a suitcase, she lacked a sense of security.

…

The following day, Adrian and Cecilia took a helicopter to an island in Zentaria.

Like the Isle of Whispers, it was also a scenic spot.

Just after getting off the plane, a middle-aged blonde lady suddenly rushed over and collided with Cecilia from the side!

The woman began cursing in English.

“Can’t you watch where you’re going?! Bitch!”
