Mr. Law's Official Announcement: He is a Wife-Doting Fanatic!
Chapter 657: The Doubts in This Case
The man’s large hand rested on the girl’s slender back, gently tracing it.
Even though the living room was very spacious and wouldn’t typically feel stuffy, under the air conditioning, Cecilia felt beads of sweat forming on her back.
"Adrian, I seem to be sweating. I want to take a shower."
"But didn’t you just refuse to take a shower with me?"
"It’ll be the same if I wash later..."
The man spoke, then mercilessly turned the girl’s face to make her look directly at him.
His voice was calm, yet Cecilia immediately understood his meaning.
Adrian Law’s powerful presence was tightly pressed against Cecilia’s slender side.
Her heartbeat seemed to quicken, the entire space so quiet that even a dropped pin could be heard.
Even though she couldn’t clearly see his face, the darkness around them was shadowed, yet those wolf-like eyes locked firmly on the girl’s body.
Cecilia awkwardly turned her head to the side.
"But I want to be alone for a while; tomorrow, I have to go to the police station to discuss the specifics of the case with the officers. I don’t want to be clueless."
The man pressed closely against her, his slender fingers lovingly tracing the outline of Cecilia’s collarbone.
"Cecilia, wouldn’t it be more appropriate to discuss the crime scene with me if you want to recall it?"
"Although I was a step late, I vividly remember Chloe Alden’s corpse."
Initially, Cecilia was just using this as an excuse and never expected Adrian to bring it up.
A terrifying image of Chloe Alden’s dripping wet, ghost-like form collapsed on the ground flashed before Cecilia’s eyes.
This was a horrifying memory Cecilia could never forget.
"Ah! Stop talking about it!"
Frightened, Cecilia clutched her heart, staring at Adrian with a hint of annoyance and mild panic.
"Cecilia, weren’t you unafraid of ghosts? How come you’re trembling at the mention of a corpse?"
"Who’s trembling? Don’t talk nonsense..."
Stubbornly, Cecilia refused to admit it, but Adrian’s gaze fell pointedly on her shoulder, where she realized she was indeed trembling uncontrollably.
Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"Isn’t it normal to be scared? Haven’t you ever had nightmares?"
She vaguely recalled that many female guests at the ship’s wedding had vomited, and even many male guests had looked shocked, finding places to hide, unable to face Chloe’s horrible condition.
Almost no one there could be said to be calm, though Cecilia thought Sean Grant was perhaps one.
He, younger than her, looked as handsome as a vampire, and his nature was solid and strong.
His eyes showed surprise but no fear, and he even cleverly told Cecilia to look away to avoid scaring her.
In that aspect, Cecilia felt she shouldn’t view Sean as a junior but more as a mature senior.
...
Seeing Cecilia in a daze, Adrian Law lightly coughed.
"Cecilia, I feel like you’re lost in thought about another man now."
His words hit home, and Cecilia averted her gaze, feeling awkward.
Never had she been so grateful that the curtains were drawn and the lights were off, making everyone’s expressions invisible.
Surely, even if she felt guilty, Adrian wouldn’t guess she was thinking about Sean Grant?
After all, to Adrian, Sean Grant was like that pending bullet in a Russian roulette. No one knew who it might hit; even though Cecilia felt no romantic feelings, Adrian could tell that Sean’s intentions toward Cecilia were not purely innocent.
"Alright, let’s not discuss the case anymore. Drawing the curtains and thinking back to the scene gives me chills."
"What would you be afraid of? Cecilia, with me here, you needn’t fear anything."
A faint smile graced his lips, his handsome nose and perfectly curved lips landing on Cecilia’s eyelashes.
"The murderer hasn’t been caught yet, but at least the police have found some clues."
"In the future, if we go out to unfamiliar places and you encounter an emergency while alone, just remember to press the locator switch for help."
Listening to this, Cecilia instinctively touched the necklace around her neck.
Her expression showed a bit of confusion.
"Adrian, who do you think could be targeting me like this?"
At that time, Rosalind’s voice hadn’t recovered; she was too busy healing to have the capacity for mischief.
As for Fiona Vaughn... we’d already discussed it before, and it’s unlikely she’d risk ruining her wedding to commit murder.
Most importantly, neither of them had any grudges against Chloe Alden and could even form alliances.
"Cecilia, aside from those two, can you think of anyone else who might have had a grudge against you and wasn’t on good terms with Chloe Alden?"
Yes, there was one.
A pretty face with a slight influencer look suddenly popped into Cecilia’s mind.
It was Katherine North, the former campus beauty of S University.
Reflecting on it, Cecilia shared her thoughts.
"Adrian, do you remember when I first got to S University, they held a campus beauty pageant?"
"I had no intention of entering, but someone secretly signed me up. By the time I realized it, I ranked fairly high, although Katherine snatched the first place in the end."
After that, Katherine, Chloe Alden, and Fiona Vaughn became close and formed a small clique.
"I didn’t think much of it then, but later Katherine fell out with Chloe Alden and Fiona, and was exposed for having a chaotic private life, leading to her expulsion."
Remembering the woman’s silhouette seen on the ship, it resembled Katherine somewhat.
This was also a major mystery in this case.
Adrian knew about this, as Cecilia had mentioned it before.
He lightly tapped his fingers, his expression showing some hesitation.
"Later, you checked Katherine’s whereabouts and found the police had already filed the case, saying she was dead, right?"
"Yes, they said she couldn’t bear the consequences of expulsion."
Could Katherine have come back from the dead for revenge...?
The thought gave Cecilia a shiver, and she lunged into Adrian’s embrace.
In that instant, she found warmth and intimacy, and Adrian’s throat bobbed slightly.
"Cecilia, you’re the one initiating this."
