My Child and I Married a Billionaire

Chapter 404: A Misunderstanding

  • Next Chapter

Wyatt Wynn had never been so wronged in his entire life. He was dying to call for backup.

But his phone was smashed to pieces. The screen wouldn’t even light up.

"Fuck!"

Furious, he threw the phone straight into a trash can and stormed back to the hotel.

Faye Fisher followed behind him. Seeing how agitated he was, she said nothing. When they entered the hotel courtyard, she sat down on a gently swaying swing.

Wyatt Wynn had already entered the lobby when he turned and saw no one behind him. He stalked back out, his face a mask of irritation.

Thankfully, Faye wasn’t reckless enough to go back to the bar.

Seeing her with the leisure to swing on a swing set, Wyatt Wynn walked up to her, trying his best to suppress his anger.

"It’s late, and you’re not going to bed. Are you planning to sit here all night? Think you’re Titania or something?"

His words were so harsh. He was still the same old sharp-tongued Wyatt Wynn.

Faye Fisher gave him a vacant look. "Where I go is none of your business, is it? Did you forget? Don’t you remember I lost my purse and can’t get into my room? If you want me to sleep in your room, just say so."

Wyatt Wynn said, "I’ll have them get you a new room key. It’s not a big deal. Come on, let’s go inside."

"Buddy, I don’t have my ID. How am I supposed to prove I’m staying in that room? You think they’re just going to give you a key because you asked? You think your family owns this hotel?"

Wyatt Wynn didn’t care.

He figured the hotel wouldn’t be that unreasonable and headed back to the lobby by himself.

But when he asked, the staff really wouldn’t give him a new key card.

"You need to show us your ID first, sir. We have to confirm your identity before we can issue a new key card. Otherwise, it’s against our policy."

Wyatt Wynn’s family owned hotels, so he understood the staff’s position. Fine, he wouldn’t push it.

"Then just get me a new room."

"You’ll still need to provide an ID for that, sir."

"ID again? I came here at noon and booked four rooms at once. Don’t you remember?"

"It doesn’t matter how many rooms you booked before, sir. If you need to book a new one, you have to provide an ID. Our system won’t let us proceed otherwise. I’m sorry."

Wyatt Wynn returned to the courtyard, frustrated, and plopped down on the swing next to Faye Fisher.

"Fuck! Seacliff is a goddamn hellhole. I’m never coming back here again!"

Faye Fisher watched his frustration with a strange sense of calm.

She looked up at the deep blue night sky, dotted with clusters of bright stars, and spoke softly.

"I actually think it’s quite nice here. Look at the night sky. It’s so beautiful. I haven’t seen a starry sky this beautiful in years. The sky in Coalmont is always so gray. Veridia is better, but I’ve never seen this many stars in Veridia."

Wyatt Wynn looked up. Just as she said, the sky was packed with stars, completely different from Veridia.

It had been years since he’d seen it, too.

If his memory served him right, the last time he’d seen a sky like this was when he was studying abroad in the Norden, and he had been watching it with Faye Fisher.

Wyatt Wynn didn’t want to reminisce, nor did he want to get sentimental.

"It’s beautiful, but you can’t just sit here and watch it all night. It’s going to get colder soon. You’re barely wearing anything; it’s a wonder you don’t freeze to death. Besides, it’s not safe. Here’s my key card. You can go to my room."

As he spoke, he took out his key card and held it out to Faye Fisher. But she didn’t take it, just raised an eyebrow at him.

"?"

Wyatt Wynn was amused by her dirty thoughts.

"You can have it to yourself. I’ll sit out here all night, alright, *ma’am*? I’m not as desperate as you think."

Faye Fisher lowered her eyebrow but still didn’t take the card.

"You’ve grown up. Become a gentleman."

’What does she mean, "grown up"?’ Wyatt Wynn couldn’t stand hearing something like that from a woman younger than him.

"I was never a kid, okay? Besides, when have I ever not been a gentleman?"

Faye Fisher turned her head and gazed into the distance.

"A gentleman? A gentleman who messes around with other women while he has a girlfriend? You call that a gentleman? Actually, I’ve never understood it. Wyatt Wynn, wasn’t I enough for you? Or was she prettier than me? Had a better body? Why did you choose her?"

All this time.

Wyatt Wynn ignored the key part of her sentence and only seized on the latter half.

"Who the fuck slept with her? Who told you I slept with her? Back then, you were draining me dry every day. I was practically a shriveled-up corpse! You think I had the energy to sleep with her? Why do you love accusing me of things? It’s been so many years, why can’t you let it go?"

Faye Fisher suddenly got angry too.

"That’s because you don’t have the balls to admit what you did! If you were straightforward and admitted that you’re a scumbag who likes to eat shit from the gutter, I would have let it go! But you’re a coward, and I’ll look down on you for the rest of my life!"

Wyatt Wynn leaped off the swing and raised his hand to the sky, swearing an oath.

"Whoever slept with her can fucking never get it up again for the rest of their life! May they die without children and suffer a horrible death! I never tried to put on some ’good guy’ persona. You knew what I was like when we were together. If it really happened, it happened. It’s not like you could do anything to me, so why would I need to lie? And keep up the lie for so many years? Faye Fisher, use your brain for a second! You’re fucking married now, you’re someone else’s wife! Why would I still be putting on an act for you? What would be the point?"

He was so emotional, his vow so vehement, that Faye Fisher was suddenly stunned.

"Then why did she..."

"Who told you? Did *she* tell you? She said I slept with her? Fuck! No wonder you reacted so strongly back then, insisting on breaking up with me no matter what. So that’s what it was... She did it on purpose to piss you off. You couldn’t even see through such a cheap trick?"

Faye Fisher couldn’t.

Back then, she was madly in love. She was crazy about Wyatt Wynn. Everyone in their social circle knew they were going to get married.

Then one day, some woman showed up with a photo of her and Wyatt Wynn drinking together, claiming he’d slept with her. Faye Fisher was so furious she could have died. She immediately went to Wyatt Wynn to demand an explanation. But what about Wyatt?

That wild and unrestrained attitude of his...

’Forget it. So many years have passed. The truth of what happened doesn’t even matter anymore.’

’It just proves he didn’t love me enough, didn’t care about me enough back then.’

’Otherwise, why didn’t he ever offer a single explanation afterward? Why didn’t he ever try to get back together with me?’

Faye Fisher’s mind was a maelstrom of emotions. She met his gaze for a moment, then spoke again in a calm voice.

"Can you not be so emotional? And I just said you’d grown up. Alright, I get it. Nothing happened between you and her back then. Go sit down."

Wyatt Wynn went back and sat on the swing, but he was still fuming inside.

"No wonder you went around telling everyone I was dead. So that’s why..."

Faye Fisher looked at him calmly. "I’m sorry. Anyway, I’m right here in front of you now. Why don’t you curse me back?"

Her words made Wyatt Wynn suddenly calm down too.

He even felt like laughing.

Because of some woman’s pointless prank, the two of them had been forced from being a couple madly in love to... whatever this was now.

"Forget it. I’m not that petty. It’s been years."

’Yeah, it’s been years.’

Faye Fisher silently mulled over his words and suddenly felt a strong urge to drink.

"Do you have any money on you? Can you buy me a bottle of liquor?"
