My Child and I Married a Billionaire

Chapter 408: Buying for My Girlfriend

After his hand trembled for a moment, Wyatt Wynn summoned the performance of a lifetime.

He forced his voice to sound normal.

"This hotel’s golf course looks pretty good, but I’m not sure how it works. Why don’t you guys go check it out first and ask around? I remember Jacobs mentioning that Faye Fisher is an excellent golfer. She’s been sleeping for so long, she must be about rested. She’ll probably be down for a meal any minute. I’ll bring her over after I’m done eating. What’s the point of being cooped up in a room? You need outdoor activities to get those dopamine levels up and lift your spirits."

They had been talking about Faye Fisher all morning, and Damien Vaughn was getting impatient.

"We’re not three-year-olds. Can’t she handle her own problems? Why do you all have to worry so much? Wynn is right, let’s go ahead. You’re not her mother, so stop letting your maternal instincts run wild, trying to take care of everyone you see. The person who needs your care the most right now is me. Let’s go."

With that, Damien Vaughn stood up and pulled Cecelia Archer away.

After hearing Damien Vaughn’s words, Zeke Walton thought he had a point.

He wasn’t anyone’s father either; no need for his paternal instincts to run wild.

’She’s a grown woman. Who doesn’t know how to handle their own personal matters? Whatever, I’ll let them sort it out themselves.’

He followed after Damien Vaughn and Cecelia Archer.

Watching their figures recede into the distance, Wyatt Wynn finally breathed a sigh of relief. He hastily put down his knife and fork, about to head back to his room to strategize with Faye Fisher.

Just as he stood up, his gaze shifted and landed on three girls who looked like university students. They were in the prime of their youth, radiating a sunny, lively energy.

All three were carrying bulging hiking backpacks and were getting ready to eat while discussing their post-meal travel plans.

Thinking about how Faye Fisher had nothing to wear, Wyatt Wynn approached girls like this to strike up a conversation for the first time in his life.

"Hi, excuse me, ladies. Could I ask you for a favor?"

The three girls were of average appearance and dressed plainly. It was clear at a glance that they were traveling on a tight budget, saving every penny.

Suddenly confronted by a man like Wyatt Wynn—tall, handsome, young, and radiating brilliance from head to toe—the three of them stared, their eyes wide.

"Hello. What do you need help with?"

"Well, it’s like this."

Wyatt Wynn quickly concocted a lie.

"My girlfriend and I are from Veridia. We just checked into this hotel yesterday. After checking in, we went to the bar for a bit, and our bag was stolen. All our IDs are gone, so we can’t get into our room, and my girlfriend can’t change her clothes. So, I was hoping to buy a dress or a pair of pants from one of you—anything will do, as long as she has something to wear. I’m not sure if that’s possible. Of course, I’ll pay ten times the original price of the clothes. I’m sorry to trouble you."

The girls had thought they were having a romantic encounter, but it turned out he already had a girlfriend and wanted to buy their used clothes for her. This...

’This isn’t some new kind of scam, is it?’

’If we show him our payment QR code or exchange WeChat contacts, could something bad happen?’

In an instant, the three girls’ delight turned to wariness.

Wyatt Wynn could see their caution and hurriedly explained further.

"Don’t worry, I’m definitely not a bad person. I..."

In his haste, he wasn’t sure how to prove his identity. Fortunately, he still had his phone.

"Here, I’ll pull up my WeChat and Alipay for you. They’re all linked to my real name. I’m really not a bad guy."

With that, he pulled out his WeChat, Alipay, electronic ID, and digital driver’s license and showed them everything.

The three girls were still a bit uneasy, but they were, after all, inexperienced with the ways of the world and kind-hearted.

After a moment of thought, one of the girls pulled a white T-shirt and a very ordinary pair of denim overalls from her bag.

"This outfit is new, I just bought it before this trip. Why don’t you take this? Is this okay?"

"Yes, yes, yes, it’s perfect."

As long as Faye Fisher had an outfit to wear so she could leave the room, it would be a huge help.

Wyatt Wynn hurriedly took the clothes. "How much should I transfer to you?"

The girl blushed a little. "I bought them for 200 yuan."

"Then I’ll transfer you 10,000."

The girl jumped in shock.

Accepting ten times the price was already embarrassing enough, but he actually wanted to transfer her 10,000?

"Wh-wh-what are you going to do with the clothes? A-are you sure you’re not a scammer?"

"I’m really not," Wyatt Wynn said. "My girlfriend is trapped and can’t come out, otherwise I’d have her explain it to you. I just feel that you’ve helped me out tremendously, and I’m very grateful. I was hoping you could have a more enjoyable time for the rest of your trip, so... I promise you one more time, I’m not a bad person. How about we go to the hotel lobby? There are lots of cameras there. If any problems come up later, you can call the police and have me arrested anytime."

Since he was willing to go that far, it seemed unlikely there was a problem. The girl showed him her payment QR code.

"It’ll be inconvenient for you to carry them like that. Let me get you a bag."

Having accepted so much money from him, the girl was very polite. She took off her backpack, intending to find a small bag for him.

"Hang on a second, my bag is a bit full. I’ve got a lot of makeup stuffed in here."

Makeup! Hearing that one word, Wyatt Wynn felt as if he’d just heard the best news of his life and immediately stopped the girl.

"Don’t bother! How about I buy your entire bag? I’ll give you 50,000, is that enough? If not, 100,000. My girlfriend is very particular about her appearance. This makeup is a real lifesaver."

The girl refused to take any more money, but Wyatt Wynn insisted. In the end, thanks to his persistence, he transferred another 10,000 to her.

He returned to the room with the entire backpack.

Faye Fisher was quite surprised when she saw him produce such a bag, which seemed to contain everything.

"Where did you get this?"

Wyatt Wynn recounted his recent experience to her.

"Hurry up and get dressed. Go find them at the golf course. If you wait any longer, I’m afraid Cecelia Archer will come looking for you, and our cover will be blown."

Faye Fisher hastily changed, put on some light makeup in the bathroom, and headed for the golf course.

From a distance, Zeke Walton saw a slender figure in a white T-shirt and overalls approaching and wondered who it was. When she got closer, he saw it was Faye Fisher.

"Hey, just how many different faces do you have? The difference between your day and night look is huge. As soon as it gets dark, it’s smoky eyes, big waves, bright red lipstick, a camisole, and shorts. But once the sun is up, look how fresh you are. You look just like a schoolgirl."

Faye Fisher ignored his teasing and twirled around on the grass.

"Just tell me if I look good or not."

Zeke Walton laughed. "You do. You look great. Didn’t you say it yourself? You can’t get into our circle without good looks. Since you made it in, how could you not be beautiful?"

"Speaking of which, I’m curious. Back in your school days, did you look like your day self or your night self? And what school did you go to?"

Faye Fisher answered him bluntly.

"Before high school, I was always considered the campus queen. It didn’t matter what I looked like. Basically, there wasn’t a single guy in any school in all of Coalmont who didn’t know who I was. As for university..."

She said a name, completely ignoring Wyatt Wynn’s presence.
