My Child and I Married a Billionaire
Chapter 476: So Much Face
Seeing the terrified look on Donna’s face, Lucy laughed.
“Don’t tell me you actually got it wrong, did you? The Club DL you booked isn’t the one we were thinking of! Oh, you’re doomed. Pete will never let you hear the end of it.”
Donna was a bundle of nerves the entire way to their destination.
When they saw Club DL, glittering like an enchanted castle, Lucy shot Donna a series of baffled looks.
“Well, we’re here. The GPS says this is it. Donna Thorne, what is going on with you? How did you get us into a place like this?”
“A friend of mine works here. He helped me make the reservation.”
They were already there, and Pete was waiting at the entrance with a group of the other guys. Donna had no choice but to brace herself and lie.
She led the way and, upon entering, gave the name Brandon Jacobs to the host who greeted them. Then, to the utter astonishment of her colleagues, they were escorted to a massive private suite.
The sheer size and splendor of the suite, the artfully presented drinks, and the exquisite pastries were enough to dazzle everyone present.
Pete had thought she would be an easy conquest, but now he wasn’t so sure.
“Donna Thorne, don’t tell me you’re secretly a millionaire, are you? Or do you have some sugar daddy backing you? How else could you…”
As all her colleagues stared at her with suspicion, Donna knew she couldn’t admit anything. She really didn’t want to lose her job.
“How is that possible? I just know someone from my hometown who works here, that’s all.”
‘So that’s it,’ Pete thought. ‘Just a favor from an old hometown friend.’ His confidence surged back instantly.
He casually draped an arm over Donna Thorne’s shoulder and ordered everyone to pick songs, dance, pour drinks, and get the party started.
In his office, Brandon Jacobs was smoking by the window when his assistant knocked and came in.
“President Jacobs, they’ve arrived.”
Back in the suite, the music was deafening. People were swaying to the beat under the colored lights, drinks in hand. But Pete, like a persistent fly, wasn’t singing or dancing. He was just sitting next to the two women.
“Here, let me wait on you two. I’ll pour your drinks. Man, our company has great taste, picking gorgeous girls like you to be our colleagues. It’s an honor. I’ll have a word with my uncle later and get you receptionists a raise. An extra 1,000 a month for each of you. How’s that for you? Come on, let’s celebrate in advance!”
Neither Lucy nor Donna Thorne believed a word of his nonsense.
Besides, this was just bar talk. Tomorrow, he could just say he was drunk and couldn’t remember a thing, and there was nothing they could do.
The two women exchanged a look, ready to team up and put him in his place.
Suddenly, the door to the suite was pushed open.
A tall, handsome man dressed in black strode in, followed by several staff members.
As he entered, the laser lights were switched off, the main lights came on, and the blaring music cut out.
Donna could see Brandon Jacobs’s face perfectly clearly.
‘Why is he here? What is he doing here? What’s going on?’
Donna Thorne’s heart began to pound.
Brandon Jacobs looked so handsome in work mode. The crisp shirt and trousers, that overwhelmingly powerful and elite aura… it was enough to make her swoon.
‘If only he were really my boyfriend.’
“Who’s this guy? What’s he doing? Who let him in?”
Seeing a rival appear, Pete’s first instinct was to stand up and challenge Brandon Jacobs.
Before he could, Donna beat him to it, rushing over and linking her arm with Brandon Jacobs’s.
“You’re here! Why did you come in person?”
Brandon Jacobs looked at her, her eyes full of pleasant surprise and her face shyly flushed, and reached out to gently ruffle her hair.
“This is your first time bringing friends here. How could I not come and check on you? What do you think? Are you happy with everything?”
His voice was gentle, his actions doting. He was giving her so much public affirmation that Donna felt like she was floating on a cloud of bliss.
“I am. It’s perfect. Thank you.”
“Silly girl. After all we are to each other, you don’t need to thank me. What’s mine is yours, isn’t it?”
With that, Brandon Jacobs wrapped an arm around her and guided her to stand before Pete and Lucy.
“You must be Amina’s colleagues. A pleasure to meet you. I’m Brandon Jacobs, the Executive President of this club. Welcome.”
As he spoke, he extended a long, elegant hand with well-defined knuckles.
Across from him, Pete and Lucy were completely and utterly thunderstruck.
‘Donna Thorne has a boyfriend? A boyfriend this handsome and this rich? The president of Club DL?!’
‘Wait a minute. His name is Jacobs? As in, the Jacobs from Veridia’s renowned Jacobs Family?’
His hands and legs trembling, Pete scrambled to his feet.
“Hello, hello. I didn’t realize Donna Thorne, uh… you, uh…”
Brandon Jacobs remained gentle and unassuming.
“Donna Thorne is a very low-key person. She always complains about being bored at home, but she didn’t want to work here with me, worried everyone would treat her differently. So, I arranged for her to go to a friend’s company, just a quiet job to pass the time. This is her first real office job, so if there’s anything she doesn’t understand or if she’s not doing well, I hope you’ll all be patient and help her out.”
‘So Donna Thorne is just like one of those characters in a TV drama—a low-key heiress or a rich man’s wife who’s only working to experience ‘real life’?’
‘He was just being humble, and they, a bunch of idiots, had actually taken her at face value!’
Pete felt his face was hot enough to fry an egg.
“Of course, of course. You’re too kind, President Jacobs.”
“Well, enjoy yourselves. I just wanted to stop by and say hello. I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll be going. Amina, you’re a lightweight, so don’t drink too much. Call me when you’re ready to leave.”
Brandon Jacobs played the part of the perfect gentleman, appearing for just a few minutes before leaving. But the lively atmosphere in the suite had vanished with him.
Everyone sat squeezed together on the sofa in a respectful line. No one dared to eat, drink, or make a sound, terrified of accidentally offending the girlfriend of Club DL’s president.
Donna Thorne had to practically force Lucy to eat and drink something.
Only when it seemed like she’d had enough did Donna Thorne ask, “Have you had your fill?”
Lucy: “Yes, I’m full, I’m full.”
Donna Thorne: “Good. Don’t be a stranger. From now on, you’re the person I’ll be seeing the most at work. I have to make sure you’re well taken care of.”
“Really, I’ve had enough. Thank you.”
Donna Thorne then turned to the men. “Have you all had enough to eat?”
The men, who had barely dared to move a muscle, all nodded vigorously.
“Yes, yes, we’re full. Thank you, thank you.”
“Since everyone’s full, and you all look a bit tired, why don’t we call it a night?”
Donna Thorne left the suite with the rest of the group.
On their way out, every single staff member they passed stopped to greet her with a polite nod.
“Good evening, Miss Thorne.”
“Good evening, Miss Thorne.”
“Miss Thorne.”
By the time they reached the entrance of Club DL, Pete and the others’ legs were like jelly, their shirts soaked through with sweat.
This was a perfect example of an iron fist in a velvet glove. That was Donna Thorne, and today, their eyes had been well and truly opened.
“Miss Thorne, you don’t need to see us out. We, we…”
Donna Thorne maintained her pleasant expression. “Call me Donna Thorne. We’re colleagues, why be so formal? Director Pete, did you have fun tonight? Please don’t say you did if you didn’t, and then go file a complaint about me later.”
Pete was about to die of fright.
“No, no, of course not! How could I? I just love to joke around. Everything I said and did tonight, it was all in jest. Miss Thorne, if you don’t like it, I won’t do it again. Never, ever again.”
