My Child and I Married a Billionaire

Chapter 477: Aren't You Going to Show Some Concern?

  • Next Chapter

Faye Fisher returned to Coalmont and spent a day with her parents. The next day, she ran into an old classmate while grocery shopping with her mother.

Her friend was excited. “I haven’t seen you at all since you came back! You don’t answer your phone, and we’ve tried to get together in the group chat so many times. We’d @ you, but you’d never reply. I thought you’d left the country again! Faye, what’s up? Don’t you want to hang out with us anymore? Did you make new friends?”

This classmate was a childhood friend of Faye’s. They had attended the same schools since they were little and even studied abroad in the same city.

It wasn’t that Faye didn’t want to hang out with her. She had just been so distraught lately that she’d muted all her notifications.

Cornered in person, Faye couldn’t refuse and could only apologize.

“My dad wasn’t doing well for a while. I never spent enough time with them before, so I want to be with them more now. That’s why I’ve been staying home. I’m sorry. Let me treat you to dinner tonight to make it up to you.”

Her friend, who didn’t have such a complicated love life and had a lively, cheerful personality, agreed in a heartbeat.

That evening, the two had dinner. It was still early, and her friend didn’t want to go home yet, so she insisted they go to a bar.

Faye didn’t want to go and was promptly ridiculed by her friend.

“What’s wrong? Did you clean up your act or something? You used to be so full of life and loved a good crowd. How come ever since the breakup… C’mon, we’re back in the country, and this is our hometown. It’s safe. Let’s go.”

“Speaking of which, Faye, guess who I ran into a few days ago?”

Faye and Wyatt Wynn had broken up years ago. Only this friend, presuming on their close relationship, would dare to bring him up in front of her so often.

Faye said listlessly, “Who’d you run into? Your ex? Your ex-ex? Or did you run into both of them at the same time?”

Her friend exclaimed boisterously, “Oh, get over yourself! My relationships were as dull as dishwater. There’s nothing worth remembering after we broke up, so even if I ran into them, it wouldn’t be worth mentioning. Not like you.”

“I ran into Wyatt Wynn! It’s been so many years, I never thought I’d see him again, and here in Coalmont of all places!”

It wasn’t just her friend who was shocked; Faye was stunned too.

‘Why would Wyatt come to Coalmont?’

“Where did you see him? Are you sure it was him?”

“Positive. Absolutely. One hundred percent certain. It was right here, actually. We even had a drink together.”

Her friend sighed. “It’s not just you whose personality changed completely after the breakup. I noticed he’s changed, too. He’s become much more mature and serious. It’s like that one relationship took a huge toll on both of you. Neither of you seems as happy as you used to be.”

Faye didn’t know what to think.

‘Is his newfound maturity really because of me?’

‘Does he really still have feelings for me?’

‘No.’ Faye was sure he didn’t.

If she hadn’t shamelessly gone to Veridia and initiated something with him, they probably would have never seen each other again in this lifetime. Wyatt Wynn would have long forgotten who she was.

Besides, even after something happened between them again, wasn’t he avoiding her like the plague?

Faye put on a brave face.

“You’re overthinking it. He’s just here for work. What does that have to do with me?”

Her friend replied, “It’s best if it has nothing to do with you. It’s been so many years. If you two aren’t getting back together, then you need to move on. Stop torturing yourself with the past. Men… they’re all heartless creatures. To them, being too devoted just makes you look like a fool. Anyway, have you thought about what I mentioned last time? There are plenty of decent, promising young men here in Coalmont. I can introduce you to a few.”

Faye hadn’t publicly announced her marriage to Brandon Jacobs, so even this friend didn’t know.

It wasn’t that Faye was ashamed or thought Brandon wasn’t presentable; she just couldn’t be bothered to explain.

She didn’t want to waste a single breath on it.

“I don’t want to date right now. I’ll let you know when I do.”

In the end, they went to the bar, chatting idly and drinking quite a bit.

At ten o’clock, Faye was ready to go home, but while they were waiting for the designated driver, her stomach suddenly started to hurt badly.

She had been drinking far too much lately—every single day. It could almost be described as alcoholism.

She thought she had built up her tolerance, but who knew it would still hit her this hard.

Seeing her clutch her stomach with a pained frown, her friend asked worriedly.

“Should I take you to the hospital? Are you okay?”

“I’m fine. I probably just drank a little too fast tonight. I’ll be fine after I get some stomach medicine.”

Her friend said, “Look at you, you’re already so skinny and you’re still punishing your body. If you ruin your stomach, you’ll waste away to nothing. Stop moping around at home all the time. Come out with me more, let’s go have some fun. I swear, you’re going to make yourself sick.”

The designated driver was still far away. As her friend continued to coax her gently, Faye thought she could just bear the pain and find a pharmacy for some medicine. But the pain intensified until even breathing hurt.

It felt like a hand was inside her stomach, squeezing it relentlessly, squeezing and squeezing. The pain was so intense that she collapsed onto the ground, beads of sweat covering her forehead.

Her friend started to panic. “This is bad, you need to get to a hospital right away. It could be a stomach hemorrhage! You’re your parents’ only daughter; I can’t take responsibility if something happens to you while you’re with me… Why isn’t the driver here yet? No, I’m calling an ambulance!”

Although she was in pain, Faye didn’t think it was that serious. ‘The driver will be here any second, right?’ She didn’t want to take an ambulance.

Just as they were talking, her friend’s eyes suddenly lit up as she spotted a few familiar figures.

“Hey! Speak of the devil! I was just talking about Wyatt Wynn, and here he is. Look!”

Faye followed her gaze with a frown and saw Wyatt Wynn getting out of a black car with several male friends from their time studying abroad.

Her friend immediately stood up and waved at them, and soon the group gathered around.

“Well, if it isn’t Faye! Long time no see. We messaged you, but you never replied. We thought you weren’t in the country anymore… What’s wrong? Why do you look so pale?”

Her friend explained, “We just had a few drinks together, and all of a sudden her stomach started hurting. We called a designated driver and were about to take her to the hospital.”

“Stomachache? How much did you two drink?! Why wait for a driver? Look at her, she’s sweating buckets! Let’s go! I haven’t been drinking and I drove. Come on, I’ll take you!”

As he spoke, the male friend tried to pull Faye toward the car, but she subtly dodged him.

“There’s no need. Joy and I can go by ourselves. Don’t let us spoil your fun. You guys go on in.”

“Spoil our fun? Now you’re just being a stranger. Come on, look who’s here.”

With that, everyone gave Wyatt Wynn a meaningful push forward.

“Remember him, Faye? Mr. Wynn has been in Coalmont checking out a project. He was supposed to go back to Veridia today, but I twisted his arm to make him stay. What a coincidence, right? Running into you like this. Don’t you think it’s fate trying to bring you two together?”

Wyatt Wynn didn’t say anything. Faye glanced at him; his face was expressionless, making it impossible to guess what he was thinking.

‘He must be so annoyed,’ she thought. ‘It’s been so many years, and everyone’s still teasing us.’

Faye forced a pale smile.

“Not really. It’s been ages. You guys should stop talking nonsense. For all you know, he could be married with kids by now.”

“Nope! We already asked. That’s the only reason we dare to say it. Right, Wynn?”

“You haven’t seen each other in years, and your ex-girlfriend’s stomach is hurting this badly. Aren’t you going to do something?”
