My Child and I Married a Billionaire
Chapter 478: Unwelcomed
Wyatt Wynn’s feelings were complicated upon seeing Faye Fisher again.
The very reason he’d come to Coalmont was that it was Faye Fisher’s hometown.
But he hadn’t expected to run into her.
When he’d arrived, Faye Fisher was in Veridia.
Now, he both longed to be near her and was terrified of it.
He had planned to just spend some quiet time in her hometown before heading back, but who knew Coalmont was so small? It seemed he ran into acquaintances everywhere he went.
‘It’s been so many years, yet everyone is still gossiping about me and Faye Fisher. Ugh.’
Seeing Faye Fisher on the floor clutching her stomach, her face pale and beaded with sweat, made Wyatt Wynn’s heart ache, but he couldn’t let it show.
Thankfully, everyone still loved to joke about them, which gave him an excuse to act.
“Did you drink on an empty stomach? You’re a grown woman, how are you still making such a basic mistake?”
Wyatt Wynn crouched down and took Faye’s arm.
“Stop trying to tough it out. Come on, I’ll take you to the hospital.”
Faye Fisher tried to shrug him off.
‘He avoided me for days, not a single word, and now he’s putting on this gentlemanly act in front of all our old classmates?’ Faye Fisher despised him for it.
She was just about to shove his hand away when another violent wave of pain hit her. ‘I feel like I’m dying.’
Seeing her state, Wyatt Wynn swept her up into his arms and carried her to his friend’s car.
The friend started to follow them to the hospital but was pulled back by Joy.
“Are you dense? They’ve finally seen each other again, especially at a time like this. You have to give them some time alone. What are you following them for?”
“Oh, right, right! I just remembered I have something to do, so I can’t go. Wynn, you take her to the hospital.”
Wyatt Wynn had no time to dwell on their friends’ insinuations. He grabbed the car keys, put the destination into the GPS, and sped to the hospital’s emergency room.
The doctor didn’t examine her right away. Instead, he fired off a series of questions. “How old is she? Married? Is she pregnant?”
‘Asking her age is understandable, but why ask if she’s pregnant? Could these symptoms really have anything to do with pregnancy?’
Wyatt Wynn shook his head. “She’s married, but she isn’t pregnant.”
“Are you positive? For a married woman of childbearing age, we have to confirm a pregnancy before running certain tests or starting treatment. Harming a fetus would be a serious issue. You’d better go get a blood test first.”
‘I already told him she’s not pregnant, and he still wants a blood test? What a waste of time.’
Wyatt Wynn was starting to get annoyed.
‘What kind of crappy hospital is this! Can this doctor even do his job? Can’t he see she’s in agony?’
The doctor adopted a take-it-or-leave-it attitude.
“Look, the regulations are the regulations. You can either get the test or go to another hospital. We have to follow procedure.”
‘If this were Veridia, I would have already lost my temper. But… switching hospitals would take too much time. What a hassle. I’ll just have to put up with it.’
He carried Faye Fisher to get her blood drawn. The results wouldn’t be ready for half an hour.
Watching her tremble uncontrollably from the pain, Wyatt Wynn wished he could bear it for her.
“This is probably a stomach perforation. How old are you, to have stomach pain this bad? At this rate, you’ll have stomach cancer by middle age! Once you get through this, you’re not allowed to drink anymore!”
‘Listen to his tone. He has no idea what his place is. Does he think he’s my husband?’
The only reason Faye Fisher didn’t fight back was her lack of strength; otherwise, she would have shoved him away without a second thought.
“If I get stomach cancer, then I get stomach cancer. It’d be better if I just died. What does it have to do with you?”
Even though he was holding her, Faye kept her eyes shut, refusing to look at him.
Wyatt Wynn could feel her anger. ‘What am I supposed to do?’
On one hand, there was his ex-girlfriend, the woman he still loved.
On the other, there was the brother he’d grown up with, whose father was now gravely ill…
Wyatt Wynn told her to quit drinking, but he’d been drinking just as much himself, tormented by his own suffering every single day.
“I know you hate me, but there’s no need to torture yourself like this…”
“Who said I hate you? I don’t have time for that. And I’m not torturing myself. I’m doing just fine… AHH…”
Faye Fisher argued stubbornly with him, even as her stomach churned in pain.
But her defiance was cut short by another piercing wave of pain.
“Okay, okay. You don’t hate me, and you’re doing great. Just stop talking and try to get some sleep. I’ll wake you when the results are ready.”
‘I’m in agony, how could I possibly sleep?’
Faye Fisher was drenched in sweat. “Hold me and walk around. Rock me a little. Like when our parents would carry us around the room when we couldn’t sleep as kids. I feel so sick.”
‘Just a moment ago, she was insisting she was fine. Now she’s admitting how bad she feels.’
Wyatt Wynn held her securely in his arms, almost like a doll, and began to wander aimlessly down the corridor, as if trying to lull a child to sleep.
“Is this any better?”
“It is. Now stop talking.”
Wyatt Wynn continued to walk and rock her, gently patting her back. She couldn’t fall asleep, but Faye Fisher had to admit it helped a little.
They finally made it through the half hour. The moment it was up, Wyatt Wynn rushed to the window to get the results.
But as he looked at the report, his brow furrowed even more deeply.
“What do these two values mean? Why are they so high?”
The lab technician said, “She’s pregnant. Don’t worry about the numbers, just show this to the doctor.”
What?
Wyatt Wynn and Faye Fisher, still in his arms, both flinched.
“Pregnant? Are you sure there wasn’t a mistake?”
Seeing his shocked reaction, the lab technician was taken aback. He snatched the report back and double-checked it from top to bottom.
“The name is Faye Fisher, correct? Blood drawn half an hour ago at window number one.”
“Yes.”
“Then it can’t be wrong. If she’s the only one you brought in for a test in the last half hour, there’s absolutely no chance of a mix-up. You two are young, at the perfect age for having children. Is a pregnancy really so shocking?”
‘If we were a couple, it wouldn’t be shocking. The problem is…’
Wyatt Wynn’s mind flashed back to that time in the car. It had been less than a month ago.
The following day, he had been worried about this exact possibility. He’d tried to find Faye Fisher several times to remind her to take the morning-after pill, but he’d never managed to reach her.
‘I assumed she understood the gravity of the situation…’
The color drained from Faye Fisher’s face, leaving her even paler than him.
‘But I did take the pill. Amina brought it to me.’
‘But just a few minutes after I took it, I was so disgusted by a dog that I threw it all up. I thought some of it must have been absorbed, that I couldn’t possibly be that unlucky. But who knew?’
Seeing the color drain further from her face, Wyatt Wynn didn’t dare say another word.
“Let’s not worry about that right now. The priority is getting the doctor to treat your stomach pain.”
Wyatt Wynn carried her back into the exam room.
The doctor glanced at the report with an I-told-you-so expression.
“She’s pregnant. Well, that complicates things. We can’t use anesthesia for the endoscopy, so it’s going to hurt. There will also be some medications she can’t take during recovery…”
Faye Fisher had never had an endoscopy, but her father had, and even a grown man like him hadn’t been able to stand the pain. The thought made her tremble with fear.
“Don’t worry about the pregnancy. Just do whatever you have to do. I’m not keeping this baby.”
The doctor saw a young, handsome couple before him. The man was clearly so concerned for her; they were obviously an item. ‘Since she’s pregnant, why wouldn’t she want to keep it?’ he wondered.
“I can smell alcohol on her. Drinking while pregnant is definitely not good for the baby. But whether to keep it or not isn’t a decision to be made so hastily. I’ll go arrange the procedure. In the meantime, you two talk it over. Discuss it with your families, too. Don’t make a rash decision you’ll regret later.”
