My Child and I Married a Billionaire
Chapter 483: Exceptionally High EQ
During the month Faye Fisher was hospitalized, Brandon Jacobs arranged for Donna Thorne to be by his mother’s side.
Although Donna Thorne wasn’t very talkative, she was exceptionally skilled at housekeeping and cooking.
Mrs. Jacobs had been in low spirits and had lost her appetite, but Donna always found a way to cook something that would appeal to her. Within a few days, Mrs. Jacobs had grown fond of the diligent and sincere girl.
Donna Thorne chatted with her, took her to the flower and bird market, and helped her with gardening, becoming an integral part of her daily life. Mrs. Jacobs’s sorrow was greatly alleviated, and the situation Faye Fisher had worried about never came to pass.
On the day she was discharged from the hospital, Brandon Jacobs called her immediately to set a time to finalize their divorce.
The two met at the entrance of the courthouse, and Faye Fisher felt incredibly awkward.
Brandon Jacobs said, “Don’t feel awkward. After divorcing you, I can be with someone else openly. We’re even.”
“Since you two had such a tough time getting together, you’d better make it work. Live well, and don’t get into any more romantic scandals, fights, or divorces. Don’t give me a reason to laugh at you.”
That evening, Brandon Jacobs came home with the divorce certificate, giving Mrs. Jacobs a shock.
Just as she was about to get angry, he pulled Donna Thorne into his arms.
“Mom, don’t be angry. Faye and I both have very strong personalities. We aren’t a good match. We separated amicably. The truth is, the person I really love is Donna. Besides, she’s pregnant.”
The rage rising in Mrs. Jacobs’s heart was instantly extinguished by the words, “she’s pregnant.”
“You… you two…”
“What do you mean, an amicable breakup? You’ve completely wronged Faye! How am I supposed to face anyone?”
“If you feel bad for her, then invite her over for dinner. We can clear the air so it won’t be awkward if we run into each other later.”
And so, the next day, Brandon Jacobs invited all their friends over to his house for a meal.
When Zeke Walton and Damien Vaughn heard that Wyatt Wynn and Faye Fisher were also going, they were utterly floored.
‘What on earth were those two couples thinking? Had they thrown all sense of normalcy out the window? It was so ridiculous that they really didn’t want to go.’
But they were also afraid the couples might do something even more outrageous and upset Mrs. Jacobs.
With the mindset of going to break up a potential fight, they arrived at the Jacobs family’s house around lunchtime.
Unexpectedly, the moment they stepped into the living room, they were greeted by waves of a delicious aroma.
The dining table was already laden with dishes, and Mrs. Jacobs was in the kitchen talking and laughing with someone, the room bustling with lively activity.
Cecelia Archer and Amina were in the middle of their pregnancies, a time when their food cravings were at their peak, and they were instantly captivated by the spread on the table.
“It smells so good! What kind of cuisine is this? It’s so tempting. I feel hungry just from the smell. Why doesn’t the food at our house smell this good? Nope, I have to go see what’s happening in the kitchen.”
Cecelia Archer pulled Amina into the kitchen.
Soon, the chattering sounds of several women could be heard from inside.
At this point, Zeke Walton and Damien Vaughn felt a flicker of admiration for Brandon Jacobs.
‘He had actually managed to smooth over such a messy situation. Not only was Mrs. Jacobs not angry, but she was in a great mood. How did he do it?’
Brandon Jacobs kept them in suspense and called Wyatt Wynn.
“We’re just waiting on you two. What’s the hold-up? Are you waiting for a personal invitation?”
Wyatt Wynn felt rather awkward and had been driving as slowly as possible. Only after receiving Brandon Jacobs’s hurried call did he speed up.
As they walked in the door, Mrs. Jacobs was just coming out of the kitchen.
She immediately ran over to Faye Fisher.
“Faye, you’re here! You poor child, you’ve suffered so much this past month. Brandon has wronged you. Even though we can’t be mother and daughter-in-law anymore, I’m still so fond of you. If you wouldn’t mind, would you be my daughter? Come visit often. We’ll always be family.”
Zeke Walton and Damien Vaughn: “??”
If it had been either of them, the situation would have devolved into chaos. Their admiration for Brandon Jacobs grew even more.
Once all the dishes were on the table, everyone came out of the kitchen. Brandon Jacobs put an arm around Donna Thorne’s shoulders and gently guided her out.
Donna Thorne was wearing a simple black dress, her hair tied back plainly. She wore no makeup and still had on an apron.
But the moment she appeared, Damien Vaughn was still left stunned.
‘No wonder Brandon Jacobs had been running around like a man possessed lately, and had been so cold and indifferent to Faye Fisher even after they were married. So this was why…’
Brandon Jacobs seemed to have anticipated that look from him. He glanced at Damien first before turning to the others.
“The reason I asked everyone to come today is to introduce you to my girlfriend. No, we’re planning to register our marriage tomorrow, so this is my fiancée, Miss Donna Thorne. She’s already pregnant, a little over a month along, so she should be resting. But when she heard my good friends were coming, she insisted on cooking. She said she doesn’t have many talents to show off but hoped she could make everyone happy with her food.”
“She started prepping ingredients last night and has been busy for another two hours today. A round of applause for her isn’t too much to ask, is it?”
Everyone looked at the gentle and graceful Donna Thorne standing with Brandon Jacobs, both with faint smiles on their faces. They looked so perfect together, and everyone applauded sincerely.
‘Why had they never realized Brandon Jacobs had such high EQ? He was such a smooth operator; he had these women wrapped around his little finger.’
The men were all beyond impressed with him.
Donna Thorne thanked everyone for coming and was seated next to Mrs. Jacobs by Brandon.
Just like old times, everyone ate and chatted, discussing their pregnancy experiences and future parenting plans. The meal was incredibly harmonious.
After the meal, as they were all sitting and chatting, Cecelia Archer suddenly received a call from Candy.
Ever since Sherry had been brought back to the country by them and opened a milk tea shop, she had become the neighborhood’s designated “king of the kids.”
Candy and Annie would run over to her shop every day after school, and on Sundays, they would stay there all day, refusing to leave.
‘It was the weekend again, and the nanny had taken her to the milk tea shop. Usually, she wouldn’t even think to call me. Why the call today?’
Cecelia Archer was peeling an orange and put the call on speaker.
“Candy, what’s wrong?”
Candy’s cute, excited voice came through the phone, “Mommy, Mommy! I have huge news!”
“Remember a while ago I told you I thought Uncle Grant liked Auntie Sherry? Well, it’s true! I just accidentally overheard Auntie Sherry on the phone with him! She said she has a baby in her tummy, and she and Uncle Grant are getting married! I’m going to have another little brother or sister! Mommy, I’m so happy!”
Damien Vaughn, who was sitting on another sofa with the men, snatched the phone in disbelief.
“Candy. What did you just say? Say it again.”
Candy was in a hurry to get back to the unfolding drama and didn’t want to repeat herself.
“Aiya, you’ll find out when you come pick me up tonight!”
“Uncle Grant also said he’s going to send you invitations and wedding candy! They’re going to the hospital for a check-up now, and Annie and I want to go too. Daddy, I’m hanging up now!”
