My Crazy Upgrade System

Chapter 668: I am the Inheritor

  • Next Chapter

When Yi Tianyun ascended unimpeded, the crowd was stunned. No one had ever been able to go up before, so most people had no idea what it was like inside. Only the Trial Takers could enter, but with a maximum of thirty allowed, any information could only be learned from them secondhand.

It was truly astonishing that he could just walk up. In the past, anyone who tried to force their way up was immediately sent flying back; no method ever worked. Now, Yi Tianyun was ascending with such ease, leaving everyone utterly dumbfounded.

Wei Feizhou was stunned for a moment before he quickly followed, discovering that he was, indeed, perfectly fine!

“What are you all still standing there for? If you don’t come up now, the way will close, and you’ll lose your chance,” Yi Tianyun said indifferently.

“Let’s go! We have to go up and see!”

A crowd of people charged upward like a crazed mob. But the moment they rushed forward, they were immediately repelled by a curtain of light. Some who were unprepared were sent flying, tumbling several times and nearly coughing up blood.

However, some were actually able to ascend, going up with ease just like Wei Feizhou.

Subsequently, quite a few people ascended one after another, but just as many were unable to go up. It was only then they realized that everyone who could follow Yi Tianyun up was someone who had previously approached him to build a connection.

The Divine Country Powers that had been too proud, or perhaps too afraid, to associate with him were all unable to ascend. They could only watch helplessly as Yi Tianyun led up a group of people, all of whom had been respectful toward him earlier.

The powers that had shown him respect, while being Divine Kingdoms, were not necessarily the strongest ones; thus, they were willing to humble themselves to form connections. The more domineering ones, such as those ranked in the top ten or even the top five, would never lower themselves to befriend him.

Yi Tianyun’s strength was formidable, but not to the point where they felt the need to lower their status for him.

‘What’s going on? Could he be connected to the Ascension Divine Hall… A descendant of a Divine King?’ A thought immediately surfaced in their minds. ‘That’s probably the only way he could control who gets to go up, right?’

By the time they snapped out of it, it was too late. Yi Tianyun had already led his people away to observe the situation inside. Unable to follow, they could only wait here foolishly.

They were now filled with immense regret. If he was a descendant of a Divine King, his status would be extraordinary. That would mean he possessed a vast number of inheritances—how could that not be alluring?

“We’re done for! If our superiors find out about this, I’m as good as dead!”

“How is that possible? How could that kid be a descendant of a Divine King?”

“Why not? If it’s impossible, then how can he freely control the Divine Rune Restrictions here?”

They were kicking themselves with regret. If they had just been a little more humble earlier, they might have been able to ascend as well. In truth, ascending wasn’t the most important thing. The key was the opportunity to befriend a descendant of a Divine King—that was the real prize!

Who didn’t covet the Ascension Divine Altar, and even more so, its inheritance? They simply never had a chance to get it. Now that an opportunity had appeared, they had let it slip by. How could they not be filled with regret?

Despite this, nefarious ideas began to stir in many people’s hearts… But then they remembered how Yi Tianyun had effortlessly suppressed so many Spirit Kings. A chill ran down their spines, and many of the powers obediently reined in those thoughts.

Crucially, as a descendant of a Divine King, there was no telling what other powers he might possess.

“Could it be that the reason he was able to make so many experts kneel was mainly because this is his home turf?”

“That’s possible! He controls this place, so of course he can use its power to suppress everyone. If we were outside, I bet he wouldn’t be so impressive.”

“If this news gets out, he’ll be a prime target. It’s not hard to imagine some clandestine powers trying to do something shady in the background…”

Many immediately recalled the suppressive force from before and concluded it likely originated from the Ascension Divine Altar. ‘How could someone as young as Yi Tianyun possess such heaven-defying power without relying on an external force?’

In that moment, some people’s expressions turned to disdain.

Yi Tianyun, who was up ahead, overheard their chatter and a faint smile touched his lips. ‘Someone’s already got ulterior motives? Interesting.’ He was actually quite pleased. He had planned to adopt a new identity to make his mission easier, and he hadn’t expected some people to develop such thoughts on their own.

If that was the case, however, he wouldn’t mind eradicating a major power or two. It would be a good chance to display his strength and earn some Madness Value and experience in the process.

If he were to attack them at their homes directly, he wouldn’t gain any benefits and would even lose experience points. Simply put, he couldn’t just kill people indiscriminately.

The many Divine Envoys following behind Yi Tianyun were too shocked to speak. Their minds were also racing with similar thoughts, speculating that Yi Tianyun could be a descendant of the Creation Celestial Divine King, or even his Inheritor!

Wei Feizhou finally understood what a true stroke of fortune was. He now knew why Yi Tianyun had been watching He Rongkun—the entire place was under his control! How could he not manipulate it at will?

He could let up whomever he wished and send down whomever he pleased!

“Young Master Yi, these items…” Wei Feizhou’s form of address had changed as he offered up the tributes.

“You can keep them. They’re of no use to me.” Yi Tianyun shook his head, gesturing for him to put them away.

“Thank you, Young Master!” Wei Feizhou was immensely grateful. His attitude had become much more deferential, as if he were a mere servant.

He felt that even becoming Yi Tianyun’s servant would be a great honor. The position of a servant to the Creation Celestial Divine King’s descendant was likely not easy to obtain.

“Excuse me,” one of the Divine Envoys ventured, mustering his courage. “Are you a descendant of the Creation Celestial Divine King? Or perhaps his Inheritor?”

“You could say that. I’m the Inheritor,” Yi Tianyun replied truthfully.

He saw no reason to hide it. He had already planned on using this identity. Without a significant status, others would consider him too lowly to deal with.

His reason for doing this was simple: it would make it easier to find Shi Xueyun. Otherwise, how was he supposed to go to their doorstep and ask for information? Was he supposed to just charge in, beat them to a pulp, and then force the answers out of them?

Killing indiscriminately would cost him experience points. If his target’s Sin Value wasn’t high, killing them would actually be a net loss for him.

“The Inheritor…” They were startled for a moment, then their eyes lit up with fanatical zeal. They had never seen an Inheritor before. Now that one had appeared, their enthusiasm surged.

Yi Tianyun said no more and led them deeper inside, soon arriving at a towering flight of stairs. He Rongkun and the others had already begun to climb; after being teleported in, their trial had resumed.

However, when they saw Yi Tianyun and the others walk in, they were dumbfounded. ‘Isn’t it impossible to enter? How did they get in?’

“Let’s continue to watch from here. We’ll see how many of them can make it to the top.” Yi Tianyun smiled faintly, once again conjuring several tables laden with fine wine and inviting everyone to sit, drink, and watch the trial.

Only now, everyone’s thoughts had changed. Each person harbored different ideas.

Yi Tianyun continued to slowly savor his wine. What they were thinking was unimportant. What mattered was the position he could secure for himself.
