My Crazy Upgrade System
Chapter 670: Searching
“A clan whose clothing features light red plum blossoms…”
Everyone racked their brains, trying to recall this detail. They desperately wanted to remember who wore such attire so they could immediately claim the Divine Rune inheritance. They would be credited with a great achievement, and all sorts of rewards would come flooding in. The very thought was thrilling.
But no matter how hard they racked their brains, they couldn’t come up with anything. As Divine Envoys who frequently dealt with other factions, they had certainly encountered many different powers. Yet now, they drew a complete blank.
They remained silent for several hours, but still, no one could recall any information.
“There’s no rush. I’ll give you all plenty of time to think,” Yi Tianyun said, looking at them calmly. “In the meantime, I will be waiting for you here at the Ascension Divine Altar. The first person to bring me accurate information will receive the inheritance. Of course, if others arrive shortly after with the same information, I will have other small rewards for them. I won’t let you make the trip for nothing.”
“When I say ‘shortly after,’ I mean within half a day. Anyone who comes after that, even with the correct answer, will not receive a reward.”
He wasn’t running a charity; he’d be at a huge loss if everyone could get a reward at any time. Still, he would give a reward to anyone who showed up within the half-day grace period with the correct answer.
He mainly just didn’t want them to have wasted their trip; he was, after all, a benevolent person. Others would hoard something like Divine Runes until their dying day, refusing to share. But to him, it wasn’t a big deal. It was just information, and spreading it around was no great loss—it wasn’t like he was giving away a Divine Artifact.
“You look like you want to say something. What is it?” Yi Tianyun asked, turning to Wei Feizhou.
“Young Master, about the Hidden Clan you’re looking for—I can draw them for you,” said Wei Feizhou.
“You can?” Yi Tianyun smiled faintly. “That would be perfect.”
Wei Feizhou immediately took out a piece of paper and began to draw. A moment later, a lifelike portrait appeared before everyone’s eyes.
The drawing depicted a stunningly beautiful woman with a tall, slender figure, her long robes trailing on the ground. A single, faint plum blossom was drawn on the robe, but there were no other distinguishing marks.
But it wasn’t just the woman’s face; he had even drawn the surrounding scenery and the other people present. He had essentially recreated the entire scene, capturing every minute detail.
“Not bad,” Yi Tianyun said with a smile. “I didn’t realize your artistic skills were so refined.”
“To be honest, Young Master, before I began my training as a Cultivator, I was an artist who specialized in painting portraits for others,” Wei Feizhou said with a small smile.
“Mm, very good.” Yi Tianyun pushed the drawing forward for all to see and said calmly, “This is what I’m looking for. Now you have more information, which should make your search easier.”
Everyone’s eyes widened as they studied the drawing. Some even made copies of it, tracing an identical portrait to aid in their search.
“Right, right! We’ll go find information right away. Please wait for us, Young Master Yi!”
One after another, the Divine Envoys rose and quickly departed, not even bothering to wait for their disciples to finish the trial. To them, gathering information and obtaining the inheritance was more important than anything else.
Whatever happened to the disciples, happened. At least they wouldn’t die. This place wasn’t as strict as the Netherworld. There would be a final competition, but it wasn’t a fight to the death; choosing to surrender would get you teleported out immediately.
It was unlike before, where you had to run to the edge and jump off to truly admit defeat.
In the blink of an eye, many Divine Envoys had left to search for clues. Some, however, remained. These were envoys from lesser powers, likely not very skilled at gathering intelligence, so they could only choose to wait here.
Yi Tianyun watched them go, continuing to slowly sip his fine wine. Everything was proceeding according to his plan.
“This is your reward.” Yi Tianyun took out a low-grade Sacred Artifact and tossed it over to Wei Feizhou, who caught it.
Wei Feizhou’s heart trembled as he held it. “Y-Young Master…” he stammered in disbelief, “this… isn’t this too valuable?”
He had only drawn a simple picture. He was already overjoyed that Yi Tianyun had treated him so well. That was why he’d wanted to draw the scene in full detail, as a way of repaying Yi Tianyun’s kindness.
Who would have thought he’d receive a Sacred Artifact for it? The other Cultivators nearby stared with wide eyes, equally incredulous. He had gotten a Sacred Artifact just for drawing a picture! Yi Tianyun’s generosity left them utterly speechless.
They wished they could have been the ones to draw such a picture and receive a Sacred Artifact themselves.
“It’s nothing valuable. I never mistreat those who help me,” Yi Tianyun said calmly.
“But… I was just casually drawing. A Sacred Artifact…” He had seen a Sacred Artifact before, but he’d never been qualified to obtain one. For a third-grade faction, a single Sacred Artifact would be considered a treasure to guard the entire establishment!
And yet, one had just been tossed to him as if it were a piece of trash. It was truly shocking.
“I said it’s yours, so it’s yours. Why all the fuss?” Yi Tianyun said coolly. “If you don’t like it, just give it to your disciple to use.”
“No, no, that’s not what I meant. I just feel it’s too precious… In that case, thank you very much, Young Master.” Wei Feizhou was ecstatic. ‘This is a Sacred Artifact!’
An item others could only dream of was now in his hands. How could he not be thrilled?
At that moment, he was completely won over. It was no wonder Yi Tianyun hadn’t been moved in the slightest by the gifts from the other Divine Envoys. Compared to a Sacred Artifact, all those presents were nothing but trash.
A Divine Envoy would never give away a Sacred Artifact. They wanted Sacred Artifacts for themselves, so how could they possibly part with one?
Yi Tianyun continued to leisurely drink his fine wine. Just as he had said, anyone who helped him would be generously rewarded. He would never treat anyone unfairly.
Time flew by, and soon, people began to reach the summit. He Rongkun, however, had fallen behind slightly, dropping from the top three to the top five. Still, his overall performance was quite good. In any case, they had plenty of time and just had to wait for the final trial to end.
The process didn’t last too long. The time limit for climbing the stairs was three days at most; anyone who hadn’t reached the top within three days was automatically declared to have failed.
In the end, He Rongkun successfully reached the summit, finishing in fifth place. Only eight people managed to make it to the top floor, meaning the number of participants had been cut by more than half.
These remaining eight could now proceed to the final trial. It would consist of continuous matches until a first-place winner was determined. The top three would receive rewards, while there was basically nothing for the rest.
Yi Tianyun smiled faintly, feeling quite satisfied. Not only had this given He Rongkun an opportunity, but it had also resolved several other matters for him. Now, all he needed to do was wait. Nothing else was required.
