Chapter 418 - 418: Betray Again (3)
The fat captain continued his killing spree. In just a few minutes, he had managed to kill almost a thousand slave traders.
The slave traders that caused the Savage Beast Realm despair were massacred just like that. Just what kind of power was this?
Even when people were at the Great Mage Rank, was there really such a vast difference in power? This was extremely despairing.
Unfortunately, no matter how strong the Captain was, his end was still inevitable. The poison he was inflicted with was not something he could remove.
He knew that he would not be able to survive unless perhaps a Noble Mage made a move. However, how could that happen?
Even if he were to contact his boss, not to mention whether the Noble Mage was willing to help, even if he did, there would not be enough time.
Not to mention, Noble Mages viewed themselves as far above those below the fourth rank. They viewed those not at the same level as them the same way that the slave traders looked at the natives of the various realms they enslaved.
A Noble Mage definitely would not make a move just to save him even if he was the Captain.
Since that was the case, he might as well kill as many slave traders as he could in hopes that the person who poisoned him would die as well and to give even just a bit of trouble to the Noble Mage.
However, this ended now. After killing almost a thousand slave traders, he lost his strength, and the poison reached its final eruption. The eruption that would claim his life.
The fat captain suddenly stopped moving, ready to embrace death, when…
Puchi!
A blade suddenly pierced through his back.
"Cough!" He coughed yet another mouthful of blood, and he turned to look at who had stabbed him.
"Ahh, Captain, why did you kill our own people? That leaves me with no choice but to kill you to save our lives."
A playful voice entered the Captain's ears, and his eyes burned with fury.
"It's you! You are the one that poisoned me!" he said angrily while glaring at his own Vice Captain.
"Oh my, don't blame me. After all, you have always been domineering and a bully. Who knows how many of our people hate your guts? One of them might have been unable to endure it anymore and decided to poison you."
The Vice Captain denied the allegations, but from the mockery in his tone, the Captain was sure that he was the one who had plotted against him.
"Y-you… you m-might have s-succeeded in k-killing me now, b-but don't celebrate t-too early. If y-you can backstab m-me now, o-thers can d-do the same i-in the f-future. Cough!"
The Captain said through gritted teeth, but the Vice Captain merely sneered at him.
"I know, but unlike you, I have no plan on excessively bullying others. I know how to handle people. Just give them enough benefits, and they should be as tame as kittens."
There was only so much that bullying one's own people could achieve. Once it reached a certain point, people would definitely rebel, just like what was currently happening.
The Vice Captain was confident in his ability to manage people and ensure they were all under his control.
"Now, go and die," he continued, and he raised the blade that was stabbing the Captain.
With a single swing, the Captain was cut in half, and things didn't end there. The Vice Captain also blasted the man's body to ensure that he was as dead as he could be.
If the Captain had been at his peak, the Vice Captain definitely would not have had the power to kill him, much less do it that fast and easily.
Fortunately, the Captain did not have much strength remaining, making killing him this easy.
"Now then, I should also capture that woman and obtain her secrets. A low-cycle Great Mage halting the movements of thousands of Great Mages with no shortage of those in the mid and high cycles? I wouldn't believe it if she claimed she didn't have a secret."
After killing the Captain, the Vice Captain then set his eyes on Elder Priss.
To Rezen's question, Elder Priss simply glanced at him without saying anything, but her silence itself was already an answer.
Rezen was right. She did plan on saving only Treen and Triss. With the state of the Noble Artifact as well as the amount of power she could currently use safely, sending two people away was already pushing it. She could not send more than two people.
However, even if Rezen guessed her plan, she didn't care. This man might have some secrets, but his strength was still too low, and this low strength was different from hers.
She only had the power of a Great Mage not because that was her rank. She only had that level of power because that was the most she could use without any consequences. They were two entirely different concepts.
Seeing her not even bother to respond, Rezen's heart grew even colder. He exuded a chill that none of his friends had ever seen before.
"E-Elder… i-is that true?" Treen asked. Yes, he wanted to be sent to a safe place with his lover, but he also did not want to leave his friends behind.
They were important people in his life, and he didn't want them to be in danger.
When Rezen asked a question, Elder Priss didn't answer, but when it was Treen who asked, she gave a nod in response.
It was clear to see the level of importance that Treen had to her compared to Rezen.
"T-then… c-can you also take my friends with us?" Treen continued to ask, and both Porenz and Theon looked at her with hope in their eyes.
They did not know what exactly was happening. They did not know who those invaders were, but from their actions, they definitely were not good people.
Considering the strength of the invaders, the Savage Beast Realm had no chance of winning even if humanity and the magic beasts joined hands to resist them.
Since that was the case, wasn't it better to leave? In that way, they could at least keep their lives.
Unfortunately, Elder Priss's response disappointed them.
"I can't. Even just sending two people away is already above the limit. I can't save more people," Elder Priss replied bluntly.
Treen opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but he didn't know what to say.
He had always been timid and afraid of danger and death. He was glad that he could be safe, but he didn't want his friends to be in danger.
However, as for choosing not to leave and letting his friends replace him… how could such a decision be easy to make?
No matter how close people were, it was still a different story to sacrifice oneself for others.
Treen was just a normal person. He was not the fallen Guardian of Humanity who was brave enough to sacrifice himself to save everyone.
A complex emotion bubbled inside Treen. His mind was a mess, and his feelings conflicted.
Unfortunately, he didn't have much time to think. Just as Elder Priss became almost fully transparent, the Noble Artifact was finally repaired, albeit temporarily.
It could only be activated once, and after that, not even a speck of ash from the artifact would remain.
"Take care of Triss. Remember what I told you before," Elder Priss said directly to Treen, who still didn't know what to do or say.
The Elder raised her hand, and the mirror shot out a beam of crimson light.
Soon, the two people, Treen and Triss, were engulfed in crimson light. This crimson light would teleport them to a random realm.
However, before it could do that, Rezen and Ivy finally made their move. This was the time they had been waiting for.
This was the moment of… betrayal.
Above Rezen, the projection of his farm suddenly appeared, stunning all those present.
Elder Priss was no exception. She could sense a level of power that was even above hers. This was not about raw power but the quality of one's power, just like how Elder Priss could only exert the power of a Great Mage, but the quality of her power was not limited to that level.
This projection was the same. At its peak, it should have been far above Elder Priss's level, but it also could not exert its full power.
From the farm projection, the image of a small fairy could be seen. With a wave of her hands, countless golden chains shot out like lightning, and they penetrated the crimson light.
The golden chains suddenly started to be covered with crimson energy as if they were absorbing the power enveloping Treen and Triss.
However, the more crimson energy the chains absorbed, the smaller the projection became.
One could see pieces of land disintegrating into nothing as if all of the land's energy and nutrients were being sucked dry and used to power the chains.
