Chapter 928

Anton didn’t stay at the Rose Manor for long. He only remained there for the night, and since that was enough to settle Paul, Eric, and their families—at least as far as he was concerned, since the rest of the work would be handled by either Raymond or Romina—he returned to Remuth.

Once he was back at the cottage he had purchased beside one of the many parks in Remuth, he dispelled the Town Portal.

About an hour later, he heard a knock on the door.

When Anton opened it, he saw a group of official-looking people standing outside. Most of them were wearing the same uniforms as the guards who had rescued him and the others from the slavers.

He assumed their business had something to do with the slavers, so he invited them inside.

Only three of them accepted his invitation. The rest remained outside.

Once Anton had seated his guests in the living room and served them tea, he asked about the reason for their visit after everyone had introduced themselves.

“Our wizards detected spatial magic being used in this location. When we learned that you had purchased this house, we thought you might be using your family’s portal scrolls. We’re here to inform you of the rules we’ve established with the Ormundans regarding the use of your family’s portal scrolls,” one of the three men explained.

As Anton had suspected, he wouldn’t be allowed to use the portal scrolls whenever he wanted within the kingdom. Apparently, the wizards of Remuth could detect the spatial fluctuations produced by his portals.

Since he had only recently arrived in Remuth and was a powerful wizard, they were giving him a pass for not knowing about the recently established rules that had been agreed upon by the wizards of Ormunda and Remuth when it came to the use of the portal scrolls.

Thankfully, the restriction only applied within the kingdom. This meant he was free to use the portal scrolls outside the kingdom or even within the territories of the various magic organizations, provided they allowed him to do so.

Anton could tell that the wizards from Remuth were favorably disposed toward him. They admitted that this was because of his desire to join one of the magic organizations in Remuth.

If he successfully joined one of them, then technically, he would become one of their own.

His conversation with them remained amiable, especially after they learned that he planned to apply to the Traveler’s Haven magic organization the following day.

Anton promised them that he wouldn’t use his family’s portal scrolls within the kingdom.

After that, the guards left, and Anton spent the rest of the night resting.

The next day, Anton went to the place where he had previously seen applicants applying to become members of Traveler’s Haven.

After arriving, he told the wizards accepting applications that he wanted to apply.

As expected, his status as a high-ranking wizard didn’t cause much commotion.

Cases of powerful wizards applying to become members of magic organizations in Izmorta were common enough.

By Anton’s count, there were around two thousand applicants by noon. According to the wizards accepting applications, the process would end at around two in the afternoon.

That was when the rebirth process would begin.

Even though Anton had already confirmed that the so-called rebirth process wouldn’t affect his Diablo System, he was still a little nervous.

Once the process began, however, Anton quickly calmed down.

The way the wizards from Traveler’s Haven performed the rebirth process was so casual that it made the entire procedure seem unimportant.

The applicants were processed ten at a time. They were led into some kind of ritual room with arrays drawn across the floor and walls.

When the arrays were activated, Anton could feel the array magic burrowing into him and removing all the spells he had learned.

As expected, however, it didn’t touch the part of him that housed his Diablo System.

Some applicants collapsed as if they had been struck on the head, while others even lost consciousness.

The wizards explained that those who had memorized a large number of spells would be affected more severely.

Anton only had a few standard spells memorized, so he experienced only a few seconds of dizziness.

Afterward, they were led into another room and given several sheets of paper.

These were the written examinations they were required to take after completing the rebirth process.

Anton was surprised that they weren’t given any time to properly recover. Those who had collapsed or lost consciousness were healed by the wizards and instructed to take the test along with everyone else.

He soon discovered that the written examination covered general science and mathematics that any high school student on Earth could answer without much difficulty.

After a while, however, the questions became considerably harder.

There were even advanced algebra, chemistry, physics, and calculus questions.

Anton wondered how ordinary people were expected to answer them.

Of course, Anton cheated.

The last time he had been in school was years ago, and he hadn’t been a particularly good student.

His access to Earth’s internet allowed him to answer the questions without any difficulty.

At first, he considered intentionally getting some answers wrong so his results wouldn’t be too impressive and cause problems for him.

However, he had no idea how the wizards of Traveler’s Haven would evaluate the results.

Because of that, he decided to answer every question as accurately as possible using the answers he found on the internet.

If that caused problems for him later, Anton would simply deal with them.

The test was grueling and lasted for five hours.

Afterward, the applicants were told to return the following day for their results. Those who passed the written examination would then proceed to the interview stage.

Anton felt as though he were back on Earth applying for a job.

In truth, he found the experience somewhat distasteful.

He remembered the anxious days he had spent on Earth desperately trying to find a job that would allow him to survive. He remembered the panic of wondering what he would do if he couldn’t find employment while watching his dwindling finances.

He had thought he would never experience anything like that again.

Yet here he was, doing essentially the same thing.

Still, he knew this time was different.

He was confident because he had a powerful cheat code on his side: his Diablo System.

Back at his cottage, Anton passed the time by completing his daily missions on his wizard character in Diablo Immortal.

Once he finished them, he spent the rest of the evening watching movies and anime.

The next day, Anton returned to Traveler’s Haven at the specified time the wizards had given the applicants.

Once he arrived, Anton was glad that he didn’t have to wait long.

He simply touched the crystal the wizard instructed him to touch. After a few seconds, he was informed that he had passed.

He hadn’t expected any other result, but he was still happy to hear the news.

He looked at the results of the other applicants and saw that almost all of them had failed.

Anton thought about the examination and wondered how the wizards expected ordinary people to pass such tests.

He suspected, however, that Traveler’s Haven’s qualification process was based not only on the examination results but also on other factors.

What those factors were, he didn’t know.

Still, Anton was selfish enough not to care about the other applicants. He simply followed the wizards who were leading him somewhere.

After around fifteen minutes of walking through the gigantic territory of the Traveler’s Haven organization, they finally arrived at a four-story building.

It was one of the many buildings within the organization’s enormous territory, which was so vast that it was practically the size of a city.
