My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building
Chapter 450: Running Away
“Venerable Chu Feng, you can’t afford to be careless. From what I’ve heard, Spirit Sword Valley has gathered dozens of Martial Arts Venerables. That’s a massive force; even the Seven Kills Sect wouldn’t dare to face them head-on!” the Celestial Spirit Elder said grimly.
As he spoke, he shot a vicious glare at the Celestial Profound Elder, the Third Elder of the Celestial Mountain Sect.
‘There’s definitely something wrong with my third brother’s head,’ he thought. ‘He probably fought those shorties from the Wo Country and got his brain fried.’
‘We only have a few people at the Martial Arts Peak Realm, while they have dozens. How are we supposed to compete?’
‘The power disparity is huge. If we fight them, it’ll be like an egg smashing against a stone. It’s just suicidal.’
‘When that happens, there will be only one fate for the Celestial Mountain Sect: annihilation!’
“It’s fine. I’ll kill as many as they bring,” Chu Feng said calmly.
They drank, ate, and talked late into the night.
By the time Chu Feng and Su Miaoke returned, dawn was nearly breaking.
“Junior Brother, why haven’t you sent Miaoke away? Don’t you know how dangerous it is here?” Bai Han asked, frowning, once they were back in the Venerable Hall.
“Are you talking about sending her back to the Celestial Sword Sect, or somewhere else?” Chu Feng asked.
“The Celestial Sword Sect, of course. With the Sect Leader standing guard, they won’t dare to act recklessly. Even if they tried to attack the Celestial Sword Sect, it wouldn’t be easy. Besides, the Sect Leader has also called some friends for backup. She specifically instructed me to tell you to hurry back. Don’t let yourself get surrounded, or you could easily fall,” Bai Han said.
“Alright. Darling, you should head to the Celestial Sword Sect first. Go with Brother Jiang. I’ll come pick you up from there and bring you home when this is over,” Chu Feng said to Su Miaoke.
He also understood that it would be very dangerous for Su Miaoke if she stayed here.
‘If I were alone, I wouldn’t have to worry about this. I could just fight without holding back.’
‘But with Su Miaoke here, I’d have to split my focus to keep her safe. That would put me at a serious disadvantage.’
“Alright. I won’t be a burden to you here, then. We’ll meet at the Celestial Sword Sect. You have to promise you’ll come back safely,” Su Miaoke said, her reluctance clear on her face.
‘She knew that if she stayed, she’d only be holding Chu Feng back and putting him in even greater danger.’
‘So, she knew she had to leave.’
Chu Feng smiled, nodded, and said, “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”
A short while later, Jiang Tao arrived.
“Bro, are you heading back already?” Jiang Tao asked as he hurried over, having just gotten a call from Chu Feng.
“Yeah. You’ve been leaving early and coming back late these days. What have you been up to?” Chu Feng asked.
“Uh, well, I found a master. He’s from a small sect, and I’m planning to return to Beihai with him,” Jiang Tao said.
“That works. But you’ve never practiced martial arts before. Are you sure they’d accept you?” Chu Feng asked, sizing Jiang Tao up with a skeptical look.
“Bro, that’s a low blow. I’m not even fifty yet, you know. I’m still young,” Jiang Tao said with a laugh.
“Go get your master and his people. This place is about to get dangerous,” Chu Feng said.
“Got it.” Jiang Tao eagerly scurried out of the Venerable Hall.
“He joined a small sect? What kind? A fortune-telling one? Something to do with metaphysics and divination?” Chu Feng asked, clearly puzzled. He didn’t know much about the various sects and had never imagined that kind even existed.
Soon, an old man walked in. He wore a tattered Daoist robe and sported a Fu Manchu mustache, giving him a rather sleazy appearance.
‘One look and you could tell this guy was an old fox, definitely not someone to be trifled with.’
“Master, my bro said you guys can go in,” Jiang Tao said.
“Venerable Chu Feng wishes to see us?” the old man asked Jiang Tao, his shifty eyes darting about as he calculated something.
“Yeah. My bro is really easy to talk to. He told me to tell you to leave the Big Snow Plateau quickly because it’s about to get dangerous,” Jiang Tao said.
“Mm, your friend is right. We must hurry and leave. It is indeed about to become very dangerous here. We could die without even knowing what hit us,” the man said, nodding.
‘He knew a great upheaval was coming, a massive battle. When it happened, small fries like them would surely be caught in the crossfire.’
‘With their meager strength, they were completely out of their league here.’
‘The only reason he’d brought Jiang Tao to meet Chu Feng was to try and get a Martial Cultivation Spirit Stone from him.’
‘He was from the Profound Dao Sect. It had once been a Major Sect, but it had declined over the years and was now, in every sense of the word, a small sect.’
‘His own power wasn’t great either; he was only at the Qi Cultivation Realm.’
‘He had originally come here just to watch the competition, but he’d unexpectedly run into Jiang Tao.’
‘He then discovered that this Jiang Tao fellow was surprisingly well-connected, able to come and go from the Venerable Hall as he pleased. The crucial part was that the man was just an ordinary person.’
‘So, he’d guessed there was more to Jiang Tao than met the eye and had decided to cozy up to him.’
‘He was quite skilled at fortune-telling. After he gave Jiang Tao a reading, Jiang Tao himself came up with the idea of becoming his disciple.’
