My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building

Chapter 477: Building a Road

Chu Feng gave his fellow villagers a lot of support. Whenever someone from the village got married, he would give them a generous red envelope.

These gifts were typically at least six figures, since the people of Fuhe Village had been dirt-poor back in the day, but they had always been good to Chu Feng.

Now that Chu Feng had made it big, he couldn’t forget their kindness.

When Chu Feng got home, his family was in the living room watching TV.

"Xiao Feng, are you all right? You need to be more level-headed in the future. You can’t reason with people like that Hei Tian. If you could, he wouldn’t be the person he is," Chu Feng’s mother said, her face etched with worry.

She was worried her son would get the worst of it in his dealings with Little Overlord Hei Tian.

That’s why she was so insistent with her advice.

"Yeah, you can’t reason with someone like that, so I beat him up. Then I took back the reservoir. I’m leasing it from now on," Chu Feng said.

"You’re leasing it? What are you leasing the reservoir for?" Chu Feng’s mother asked.

"It’s no big deal. I’m just leasing it for fun. I’ll beat up anyone who tries to cause trouble. Plus, we can go for a swim there in the summer. How great is that?" Chu Feng said with a smile.

"Xiao Feng, we know you’re making good money now, but it’s not easy to earn. You can’t just spend it so recklessly. This is just wasteful," Chu Feng’s mother said.

"It’s okay. Xiao Feng is doing this for everyone in the village. After all, if the reservoir’s water quality is guaranteed, the whole village benefits. Otherwise, life will be difficult for everyone," Chu Yunfeng said.

He understood his son’s intentions, so he was very supportive.

"But, now that you’ve leased it, does that mean you’ll have to come back and raise fish?" his mother asked again.

"Nah, I’ll have someone else manage it day-to-day. When I have time to come back for the New Year, we can just catch a few to eat," Chu Feng said.

"That sounds great! Catching fish will be so much fun," Su Miaoke said with a smile. She was very interested in things like that.

She was always interested in fun activities, and she would support Chu Feng no matter what he did.

The two of them were incredibly wealthy now; this little bit of money was nothing.

"You two... It’s like you have so much money you don’t know what to do with it. How much did it cost to lease the reservoir?" Chu Feng’s mother asked, sounding completely exasperated.

"Not that much. Just sixty thousand a year. It’s pretty cheap," Chu Feng said.

"What? Sixty thousand? The fish sold from that reservoir in a year don’t even add up to sixty thousand! I remember the best year they ever had was just over forty thousand!" Chu Feng’s mother exclaimed, wincing as if she’d spent the money herself.

She knew her son was rich now—that he’d made a fortune, that both he and Su Miaoke were wealthy, that they’d even built villas for everyone in the village.

But she had spent the better part of her life struggling. Frugality was a deeply ingrained habit, and no matter how rich they were, she couldn’t stand to see money wasted. It made her heart ache.

After all, it was hard to make a living in a rural village. Supporting a family often meant scrimping and saving, and even then, it was hard to put much money away.

"Mom, it’s only sixty thousand. That’s nothing. We can make that back in a minute," Su Miaoke said with a smile.

The money in her bank account just sat there earning interest, and that wasn’t even counting profits from their companies.

Simply put, they had more money than they could ever spend.

Neither of them cared much about money; it was just a material possession.

"That’s right. Our son is successful now, and both he and our daughter-in-law are making plenty of money, so you should worry less. It’s not like he’s spending your money. Besides, this money is for the good of the village. The village renovation cost over a hundred million, so this little bit really is nothing," Chu Yunfeng said.

He still had a soft spot for the people of Fuhe Village. When he and his own father had first arrived here, they had been helped by everyone.

When they didn’t have enough to eat, many families would offer them a helping hand, without ever asking for anything in return.

So, now that they had money, giving back to the village was the most natural thing in the world.

"I’ll also have the road around the reservoir fixed up and install some streetlights and benches. It’ll be a nice place for a walk on a summer evening," Chu Feng said with a smile.

"Darling, if you want to do it, just go for it. It’s not like we’re short on cash," Su Miaoke said casually. As long as Chu Feng was happy, spending money was no object.

"Son, you’re going to fix the road too? That must cost a lot of money! That’s something the government should be doing," Chu Feng’s mother said, growing anxious again.

She felt that Chu Feng was spending too much money, and her heart ached for him.

"Mom, it’s okay. It’s just a little bit of money, nothing to worry about. This way, everyone can go for a walk after dinner and get some exercise. It’s a good thing," Chu Feng said.

"Yes, that’s right. If you want to do this, your dad supports you unconditionally. What’s the point of earning so much money if you’re not going to use it? Besides, you’re not just wasting it on food and fun—you’re doing something to benefit everyone. For that, I support you one hundred percent!" Chu Yunfeng said with conviction.

He wholeheartedly approved of what his son was doing.

"Yeah. We’ll probably start preparations in a day or two. The road there will definitely be built wide enough for two-way traffic. That way, people can even just go for a leisurely drive," Chu Feng said.
