Chapter 450 - 296: Chen Yuan Takes the Initiative, Tricking Ningning and Yaoyao into His Room (2)
The cozy room instantly brightened as soft light filled the space.
A video call rang out. Just as promised, Chen Yuan was calling right after sending the message.
The two sisters were practically cast from the same mold, and their movements were just as synchronized. They quickly neatened their hair and adjusted their pajamas, trying to make themselves look a little more presentable. After all, they were much more relaxed before bed, not as polished as they were during the day.
After they answered, the two girls’ delicate little faces appeared on the screen, huddled together.
"You’re both still awake?" Chen Yuan asked, his eyes softening as he looked at them.
He watched them quietly, feeling that their faces, side by side, were the most beautiful sight in the world.
"No, but we were just about to sleep," Jiangg Ning replied.
"How are you feeling today? You must be exhausted after running around all day."
"It’s actually not too bad. My arms were a little sore before my shower, but they’re much better now. I was just about to read for a bit."
"Studying this late... Compared to you, Yaoyao and I seem like such slackers."
"Yaoyao, maybe. But Chen is definitely not a slacker," Jiangg Ning said with a light chuckle.
"Hey! Is it really okay to say that right in front of me?" Yaoyao grumbled, wrapping her arms around her sister’s neck and pouting. "If I’m a slacker, it’s because you raised me that way. You have to take full responsibility."
She habitually snuggled close to her sister, burying her face in Jiangg Ning’s neck. Her teeth glinted, making her look like a kitten about to bare its fangs and bite.
Her warm breath ghosted across her sister’s neck, making Jiangg Ning feel a tickle.
"Stop messing around, we’re on a video call with Chen."
"It’s your fault for talking about me. Besides, Chen isn’t a stranger, so what if he sees?"
As she spoke, she planted a loud SMACK of a kiss on Jiangg Ning’s soft cheek.
Because they were both lying on their stomachs on the bed, their long legs intertwined, their pointed toes could be seen when the screen shook. They were wearing loose pajamas, and during their playful scuffle, there was a sudden flash of snow-white.
A glimpse into a deep ravine, impossible to fathom in a single glance.
"You two have always slept in the same bed?" Chen Yuan asked, quite curious.
"Yes, for as long as we can remember, pretty much. We tried sleeping in separate rooms at one point, but we can’t sleep soundly without the other person next to us," Jiangg Ning explained softly.
"Young Master, when we were little, we’d fight during the day and then make up at night when we were in the same bed," Jiangg Yao added.
"That’s because Yaoyao insists on clinging to me when she sleeps, it’s so annoying. If I brought up the fight from during the day, she would just act cute and apologize."
Chen Yuan imagined the scene and could instantly picture it.
Miniature versions of the two sisters lying on a bed, one with a cold expression, the other acting cute and begging for forgiveness.
The only thing he couldn’t imagine was what they looked like as children and how different they were from now. After all, they were hiding their photos and wouldn’t let him see.
"I see... I get it."
Chen Yuan had been with the two sisters for a long time, but this was their first video call together. It was subtly different from seeing them in person. With their faces squeezed into the same frame and the image not as sharp as real life, they looked even more alike.
If he looked closely, he could make out some subtle differences.
But overall, the effect was definitely surreal.
’They’re beautiful...’ he thought.
So, during a pause in the conversation, Chen Yuan reached out and pressed the buttons on the sides of his phone to take a screenshot, wanting to preserve this beautiful moment. One wasn’t enough, so he took several.
But Ningning and Yaoyao, who were staring at the phone screen, saw his hand moving around and asked, suddenly suspicious:
"Chen, what are you doing?"
"Young Master, you’re not taking unflattering screenshots of us, are you?"
"No, of course not," Chen Yuan replied guiltily.
"You’d better not have. We’re not wearing any makeup, we look awful."
"You don’t look awful at all. You look beautiful."
"You’re still not allowed to. If I catch you, I’ll delete every single one."
Hearing Jiangg Yao’s words, Chen Yuan felt a pang of guilt. A woman’s intuition was terrifyingly keen. The phone’s internal screenshot sound wouldn’t be transmitted through the video call, so they had made that incredibly accurate guess just from seeing his fingers move. The only word to describe it was ’terrifying’.
"Are your parents not asleep yet?" Jiangg Ning suddenly asked.
In his bedroom, Chen Yuan tilted his head, listening for sounds from outside. The arguing had stopped. He didn’t know if they had entered a truce or if the two of them were just sitting on the sofa, sulking.
Based on Chen Yuan’s understanding of his parents, both possibilities were very likely.
"They’re probably getting ready for bed," he answered.
"So... after we left... did your parents say anything?" Jiangg Ning asked tentatively.
She wanted to get some answers from Chen Yuan. Although she had clearly sensed the two elders’ kindness when they were all out together during the day and had already formed her own judgment, she still wanted to hear it directly from him.
That way, she wouldn’t have to worry so much.
"They did, actually," Chen Yuan said, not wanting to hide it from them. He hesitated before adding, "But it was all praise."
"What exactly did they praise?" Yaoyao asked, also a little anxious. She was afraid she had made a poor impression and been completely overshadowed by her sister.
"They praised you both for being polite and sensible, like proper young ladies from good families. Anyway, they were very satisfied."
"Is that all?"
"What else would they say? That’s about it."
"Didn’t they ask about us being twins? Or about the age issue?" Jiangg Ning finally asked the question he had been dreading the most.
"They did," Chen Yuan said evasively. "I told them what the three of us agreed on—that we’d discuss it further when the time is right. My parents didn’t press the issue. They’re very happy with you both and support my decision, as long as it doesn’t affect your studies or your lives, and as long as we don’t publicize it... As for the age thing, well, that’s kind of a weird story. I don’t even know if it’s true or not myself."
