"What’s it to you!" Ethan Knight kicked him aside, then pulled Melody Thorne over and put her in front of a huge telescope.

"I did bring you here planning to cling to you like crazy—serves you right for turning me straight!" Ethan said it like it was perfectly justified. "But today it’s not just about me pestering you to death. I wanted you to watch a good show!"

Through the telescope, Melody saw inside a café across the street: a specially decorated romantic setup with flowers and balloons. At each end of a long table sat a man and a woman. The woman was Flora Knight, and the man was the one she knew better than anyone—Jared Quinn!

She couldn’t hear what they were saying, but Flora kept laughing; they looked like they were having a great time.

"Got a clear look? Jared Quinn is the guy my little sister has her eye on. As long as she’s around, getting Jared is a piece of cake. So? Isn’t this man you ’turned straight’ way better than him? At least I used to be bent and never touched a woman!"

Melody lowered the telescope, face expressionless. "Your sister’s bad news. And so are you."

Ethan: "..."

"You didn’t see your man about to walk off with someone else?" That was what he was trying to point out!

"I saw," Melody’s expression was still calm. She shoved the man in front of her aside. "Even if he’s going off with someone else, I’m not picking a guy who used to be bent!"

Ethan blocked her. "Don’t you think choosing me is better? At least I’m Flora’s big brother. If there’s anything between you and me, Jared Quinn will have to call you sister-in-law!"

Melody halted. That actually sounded kind of interesting.

"Let’s go, one-day boyfriend." Melody tugged on Ethan’s sleeve and headed off.

"Go where?" Happiness came too suddenly; Ethan couldn’t react in time.

"Across the street, to meet my dear sister and future brother-in-law!"

Ethan: "..."

Café.

"Out. All of you, out. The ones who booked out this café are from the Knight family—who dares stop me?" Ethan barreled ahead like a man, clearing a path for Melody.

"Big bro, what are you doing here?" Flora’s face changed. "Didn’t we agree not to interfere with each other? What are you doing now?"

"He came here with me," Melody stepped out from behind Ethan.

"Yeah, as her one-day boyfriend," Ethan said, smiling more seductively than any woman, then quickly pulled out a chair in front of them for Melody to sit.

Jared Quinn’s dark, glimmering phoenix eyes narrowed slightly, a sharp light slicing toward Melody. Danger radiated from him, ready to explode; his long fingertips were inches away from crushing the glass in front of him.

"You two... you two..." Flora laughed. "Bro, sit, both of you sit!"

"What do you want to drink?" Ethan took the menu, thoughtfully opened it, and held it up right in front of Melody.

Melody gave it a casual glance. "Whatever you like to drink, I’ll drink."

Ethan: "...In sync like a married couple, huh. Sweet stuff. I like sweet. Waiter, two of your most expensive coffees, with sugar!"

What a waste for him not to be a woman, Melody sneered inwardly.

"Bro, you don’t hate women anymore?" Flora leaned her face in closer.

"I’ve realized women are the cutest things ever," Ethan said, gently blowing on Melody’s coffee so she wouldn’t burn herself.

The sparks in Jared Quinn’s phoenix eyes burned brighter and brighter, practically setting fire to those deadly black pupils of his, but his face still looked as calm as a passing cloud.
