Chapter 498

Ray reached his room without much hassle.

Kicking off his boots, he walked towards the kitchenette and began brewing himself some tea.

Dropping the book he had brought back from the library on the center table, he whistled quietly while the tea brewed.

Walking into the bathroom, he splashed some water on his face before dabbing it dry with his towel.

Then, he walked back out to check if the tea was ready.

Sipping the tea gently, he let out a sigh of satisfaction before thinking,

’I wonder how coffee tastes though. I have seen the Captain drinking it constantly. Could it be better than tea? I mean, what if coffee is a rich man’s drink?’

Staring at his cup of tea, his face contorted into a slight frown as he remembered his bank account.

’... I’m rich already, so I need to act like my bank balance. Tsk. The problem is that I don’t know how to make coffee.’

Walking towards his couch, he dropped his cup of tea on the center table before bringing out his phone and going on the web.

"What café makes the best coffee?"

He clicked the search button, then sat down and began browsing through his phone until he finally got his answer.

And luckily, the café was located right here in Wall Diamond.

Peeking at the time displayed on his phone, he shook his head.

"Four pm.... It’s late now. I will go there tomorrow and give it a try. I mean, we only live once.’

Gulping for a moment, he shuddered.

’... Who knows, I could even die on this expedition next week. Ha.’

Dropping his phone to the side, he picked his cup of tea back up and then grabbed the novel, "Shadow of Death."

And with that, Ray immersed himself in the world of the book while occasionally enjoying his tea.

As the hours blurred past, the sun slowly dipped below the horizon as the night sky gradually blanketed the world.

Ray found himself so immersed in what he was reading that he didn’t even know when he transitioned from the couch to the bed.

His legs kicked in the air as he continued reading, occasionally shuddering at the words written on the pages.

’Fuck... this horror book is-is too realistic. What the hell?!’

Elyon and Bruce, who were in the mindspace, exchanged brief glances as they looked at Ray sitting in the chair, trembling in fright at what he was reading.

"Wait. For real? You are scared of a fictional book?!" Bruce shouted in disbelief as he rose up from where he sat and began approaching the boy.

’Don’t blame me. It’s too realistically good.’

"You?! The first and only Tribrid the world has seen. A creature the whole of humanity is wary of. A monster with immense power at his disposal is scared of a novel?!

Hahaha! Wait till the others hear of this. Just wait till I gain control of that chair, your reputation will suffer at my hands. Hahaha!" Bruce laughed heartily while Ray only scoffed.

And soon, the sun could be seen rising.

The rays almost blinded the Tribrid, who had left his window open the day before.

Blinking repeatedly to refocus his sight, he rubbed his eyes before letting out a short yawn.

’Finally, it’s morning! Let me go have my bath, then I can have a taste of my first coffee! Hehehe... I’m so excited.’

Dropping the book on the bed after bookmarking where he had stopped, Ray rushed towards the bathroom.

After a few minutes, he stepped back out.

Grabbing his phone, he scrolled through an app before ordering a ride.

’Why must I have to wait minutes under this sun when I can just order what I want? Haha! Being rich is awesome.’

Making sure his robe fit properly, Ray pulled the hood over his head before walking out of the room.

He had to make sure his friends didn’t see him; otherwise, they would want to accompany him for his ’safety.’

When really, whoever or whatever wanted to cross him would actually be the one at risk.

A few minutes later, Ray stood before a hover car with yellow stripes decorating its outer features.

After confirming that it was his ride, Ray hopped in and soon, the vehicle was on the move at more than a decent speed.

Surfing through his phone, he peeked into his inventory once more to see that the novel was stored safely inside.

As the minutes passed, Ray could occasionally feel the driver glancing into the mirror, trying to get a good look at his passenger’s face.

Alas!

The hood was doing a great job of hiding his features, and with his head bent low and his attention glued to his phone, the driver couldn’t even see a strand of his hair.

"So, how’s it been as a Vanguard? Any exciting mission lately?"

Ray blinked, then slowly lowered his phone before shrugging.

"Just joined newly. Will be having my first big mission soon."

"That’s exciting. You know—"

’Ugh...’

"Oh wait..." Ray suddenly shouted as he looked at his phone.

"... I’m getting a call."

Clicking on the blank screen, the Tribrid placed the phone over his ear.

"Oh hey, Martha. How’s it going?"

Giving the driver a side-eye, he noticed that the man was concentrating on the road.

"Really? He did that to you? Damn."

And then, he rambled on continuously while the driver tapped on the steering wheel as they reached traffic.

Ray remained silent for a few moments with his phone pressed against his ear.

When the driver opened his mouth to say something, Ray suddenly spoke to the imaginary caller on the phone.

"Life’s been tough over here. Just joined the Vanguard Order, by the way. Isn’t that great?"

Soon, the car was back on the move, and the driver was visibly growing bored.

"Excuse me, uh... can I put on some music?" the driver asked.

"Hang on," Ray uttered into the phone before looking at the driver.

"Sorry?"

"I said, can I put on some music?"

Ray lingered for a second before nodding.

"Uh-sure."

Then, he leaned back into his seat while bringing the phone back over his ear and continuing his ’call.’

The driver was about to put on the radio when he suddenly looked up and saw that they had reached their location.

"Ah—we have arrived."

"Hang on, Martha. I will call you back later," Ray spoke into the phone before ’hanging up.’

Stepping out of the car, he held out his phone after clicking into his bank app.

The driver opened his own, and soon, the money was transferred over.

"That was a nice ride."

"Thank you. Do rate me five stars."

Ray nodded with a smile.

"I sure will."

And soon, the car was speeding away, leaving Ray to turn around towards the café with a breath of relief.

’Now that that is done, let’s go get some great coffee.’
