Chapter 501

"...."

"....?!!!"

"....!!!"

The whole café fell into a pin-drop silence as all the customers who had been banging on the back door suddenly paused at the same time.

All heads turned towards Ray, who stood there with his hood still over his head, his intense glare fixed upon the Ogre as though he was about to rip it to shreds.

The boy had just been seen blasting a King-rank beast through a wall.

All with one punch?!

They were more than stunned as they stared at him in disbelief.

Mouths hung open for a split second as they continued watching the standoff.

A little spark of hope ignited within their chests that maybe...

...Maybe the Vanguard member could actually turn this around?

Turning towards the wall where his comrade had been blasted, the beast lingered for a few moments.

Chaos continued outside, with screams filling the air as humans were being torn to shreds while the Gate kept churning more beasts into the streets.

But while the beast was looking at the wall, Ray’s gaze remained fixed on his destroyed food.

A pang of pain shot through his chest as he looked at those delicious, beautiful, uneaten snacks and pastries that had all gone to waste.

Whether he had eaten them or not, he would still have to pay for them.

His hands tightened into fists as he listened to the Ogre breathe.

The beast slowly turned its gaze back towards the Tribrid.

Its chest rose and fell in furious waves as its bulging hands tightened around the club.

Its fingers dug into the weapon, almost shattering the whole thing into splinters.

The next second, the Ogre bolted towards Ray with tremendous speed.

It closed the little distance of two metres between them within a few seconds.

Its club swung towards Ray’s side with blazing speed.

The Tribrid merely turned his head slightly to look at the club rocketing towards him with a calm yet furious gaze.

Then, he fiercely bent down.

The club shot past his body, kicking up a small blast of dust that knocked the boy’s hood off.

Then, he shot upward like bamboo—faster than the Ogre had time to regain its composure and strike again.

Hovering a few inches in the air while glaring at the beast before him, Ray spun his legs and sent his right leg smashing into the beast’s jaws.

BAM! BOOOM!

The force of the kick shattered its jaws and caused its teeth to crash into one another, shattering like brittle glass.

The Ogre’s head jerked backward, its neck following in tandem, before its entire body was dragged along by the force and inertia as it rolled backward.

WAM!

It crashed through a glass wall and shattered the whole thing.

Ray landed with smooth feline grace as his robe fluttered around his ears.

His silver hair came loose as all eyes fell upon him, looks of disbelief cracking through their expressions.

Disbelief turned into awe.

Awe turned into recognition from one of the customers.

— Wa-Wait! I-I know you. Yo-you are the werewolf!

Hearing the words, Ray slowly turned his head in the direction of the customer.

His eyes crackled with lightning for a moment.

The others looked at the speaker in shock before they all slowly looked back at Ray.

The silver hair.

The grey eyes....

It was really the werewolf from the livestream.

— It really is him!

Choosing to ignore them, he turned around because something had already taken his attention.

[DING!]

[QUEST ALERT]

[Description: Host was just enjoying his meal as a normal civilian when a gate tore open and churned out beasts. Beasts that ruined Host’s normal day and also his food.

The system wants you to take vengeance and ruin all the beasts’ faces, bodies and mission. Clear the gate and show the gate’s boss who is boss.]

[Rewards: +8,000exp for every beast killed; +40 VIT stat; +10 free stat points; +1 bloodline skill.]

Reading the quest and the rewards, a certain knowing smirk curved across his lips as the boy popped his hood back on.

Turning fully around, the boy was seen walking towards the shattered glass door—towards the chaotic street.

— So he really is the werewolf? No wonder he left us all to die. He-He is a real monster.

— I knew that the jury shouldn’t have pardoned him. They should have executed him. He had the power to save us and didn’t even budge an inch till the danger got to him?

Another customer spat to the ground with a disgusted look on his face.

— That monster is against humanity. He doesn’t care about us. I hope he dies as he is going towards the Gate.

— Me too.

Ray was hearing every single curse directed at him.

Every word.

Every insult.

Every ounce of hatred contained within those voices reached his ears with perfect clarity.

Crunch—! Crunch—! Crunch—!

His feet pressed against the shattered glass beneath him, crushing the fragments into even smaller shards as he walked ahead with a cold look in his eyes.

The sound of glass breaking beneath his boots continued to echo through the café, each step carrying him closer to the chaos outside.

’I hope an Ogre rips your heads off, bastards!’

His expression remained completely indifferent.

He didn’t bother turning around.

He didn’t bother defending himself.

There was no point.

They had already decided what he was.

Reaching the archway that led outside, Ray paused for a moment as he surveyed the whole situation.

His eyes darted from one place to the other with focused intensity.

The scene before him was nothing short of chaotic.

Ogres continued devastating humanity with precise strikes of their weapons.

Some bashed buildings as if they were vandalizing thugs, their enormous weapons smashing into walls and structures and sending chunks of concrete flying through the air.

Others continued pursuing the fleeing civilians, their heavy footsteps shaking the streets as humans desperately tried to escape.

The Gate still stood in the distance, churning out even more Ogres.

The newly emerged beasts used their weapons to bash through the cars that had collided into each other a while ago, clearing the wreckage and carving a path forward.

To his left, the beasts had already taken over the streets, with crimson trails running across the concrete earth.

Smoke rose into the air as if the streets were a pile of burnt offerings of some sort.

The scent of blood and destruction lingered heavily throughout the area.

With his incredible perception, Ray could sense some humans hiding inside relatively standing structures.

Cowering.

Shivering.

Muttering prayers to the heavens that the Ogres didn’t find them.

Ray’s eyes swept across the battlefield once more.

There were too many.

The Gate was still producing more.

If he wasted time chasing every single Ogre individually, the situation would only become more troublesome.

THUD! THUD! THUD!

The sound of heavy footsteps approaching Ray was heard.

Loud and clear.

Each step sent a subtle tremor through the ground.

It was as if an elephant was charging at one.

He didn’t have to turn around to know that an Ogre was after his head.

Even still, he remained calm and nonchalant as he kept assessing the situation.

His gaze continued moving across the streets, calculating the distance between himself and the other beasts.

’Those ones are far away. I don’t have all day to chase them. So I need to deal with the ones that are actually around me. Maybe if I do something big, it could draw all their attention towards me and they will head here in—’

GROWL!

The Ogre roared as it sent its club rocketing towards Ray’s head.

The enormous weapon tore through the air with frightening speed.

In a flash, it connected.

BAM! BOOOM—!

A cloud of dust shot into the air as the weapon collided with the earth in a massive quake.

The ground beneath the impact cracked violently, while fragments of concrete and shattered debris were thrown outward.

For a moment, Ray disappeared completely within the cloud of dust.

Then—

Shooting out of the dust like a bullet, Ray’s robe flapped violently around him as his silver hair whipped behind his head.

His eyes locked onto the beast.

Cold.

Focused.

Furious.

A crimson dagger could be seen weaving into his hands from electrical purple sparks, the weapon forming seamlessly within his grasp.

Kicking the air beneath him, he shot forward like an arrow—

Too fast for the beast to react.

The distance between them vanished almost instantly.

Tchaaaak—!

His dagger flashed forward with clean efficiency.

A crimson line followed the movement of the blade.

Ray didn’t slow down.

He passed the beast completely before landing behind it with a controlled skid, his robe fluttering from the momentum.

For a brief moment, everything seemed still.

Swinging his dagger to the side, blood splattered from the weapon onto the ground.

And right behind him, the beast swayed for a few seconds.

Its enormous body struggled to remain upright.

Blood oozed freely from its neck.

Its knees weakened.

Then—

THUD!

It collapsed to the earth loudly.
