Chapter 506: Summoned Backup?

Chapter 504

As the system slowly settled around Ray, he could be seen straightening his posture while looking toward the beasts a few metres away from him.

They glared at him.

Yet, for some reason best known to them, none of them could move.

Then—

One by one, beasts began falling like flies among the ranks of Ogres standing a few metres away from him.

Confusion flared through the ranks of beasts as they watched their comrades collapse as if they had been struck by something.

And as they fell, they remained unmoving.

Dead...

Looking back at Ray, they could see the human still standing in the same spot.

He hadn’t moved an inch.

So how?

If the beasts had possessed the intelligence to examine their fallen comrades more carefully, they would have noticed the slashing marks across their legs and other parts of their bodies.

It was as though an invisible blade had passed through their flesh—not deep enough to kill them outright, but certainly enough to leave behind a strike.

And all of it had been done by Ray’s daggers.

The twin daggers each possessed a skill capable of both poisoning and draining the life, health, and energy of whichever living being they struck.

More than a dozen beasts collapsed to the ground, leaving the rest confused as the Gate in the distance continued swirling but no longer churned out beasts.

A twitch.

Ray glanced downward to see the food destroyer attempting to rise from the ground.

’Honestly, I don’t have all day to deal with hundreds of King-rank beasts. I need to finish them up fast and close that Gate in time.’

Sensing the area all around him, Ray noticed that the other beasts still hadn’t made an attempt to approach him.

And the ones directly in front of him weren’t moving either.

So he decided to try one last thing.

[Magnetic Howl Activated]

A burning sensation began rumbling through the Tribrid’s belly, rising as though his stomach were a balloon being filled with air... or water?

The strange feeling continued climbing upward.

Higher.

And higher.

Until it reached his throat, threatening to erupt if he didn’t open his mouth.

His lips parted.

Then—

"AWHOOOOOO!"

A resounding howl tore through the air like a shockwave, rippling outward and striking every beast in the surrounding streets.

And through it all, Ray remained completely unmoving.

"...."

The moment the howl left his mouth, lightning began arcing from the tops of his shoulders down to the tips of his fingers as he waited.

Soon—

It didn’t take more than a second before the beasts began stirring.

Both the ones standing directly in front of him and those much farther away.

They stirred like zombies awakening from a deep slumber.

Anger ignited within their souls as they completely abandoned whatever they had previously been doing or feeling.

They charged forward with one sole purpose.

Rip the human apart!

Every Ogre that had emerged from the Gate—more than two hundred King-rank beasts—was forced against its will to lunge toward the Tribrid, whose hands were now blooming with arcs of lightning.

Gently, Ray lowered himself toward the ground, placing his crackling hands against the concrete as he waited.

[Chain Burst Activated]

The lightning began snaking from his hands into the concrete ground, moving rapidly like a swarm of snakes.

And just in time.

The King-rank beasts in front of him reached his position.

The snaking lightning raced across the earth toward the threats charging at the boy.

Then, the element bit into their legs, shooting through the veins that carried blood throughout their bodies.

From one Ogre to another, the chained lightning jumped like a leech, locking the Ogres down in a paralytic state.

The beasts all froze as if trapped beneath a hypnotic spell.

While the ones that had been rampaging through the streets were still quite far away, Ray held out one hand toward the paralyzed beasts in front of him.

’Time to test my newest skill out.’

[Judgement Beam Activated]

[-100 Energy.]

And then—

The world around Ray went dark for a moment.

Lifting his hand into the air, it seemed as though a void had swallowed the light surrounding him.

His eyes shone with a furious white glow, almost as bright as a lightbulb.

And just as quickly as the darkness had swallowed the world, a furious light ignited in the sky, causing every eye nearby to trace its source upward.

It felt as though a miniature sun had begun burning brightly in the heavens.

Light danced and coalesced into one another until—

One by one, the humans gulped at what they were seeing.

Those watching the livestreams felt their hearts leap against their chests as the sight before them completely blew their minds.

A humongous pillar of white fire hovered in the air, a few metres above the paralyzed Ogres.

The pillar was surrounded by a white ring that circled around it like a satellite, spinning steadily as though preparing to unleash destruction upon everything beneath it.

Ray slowly raised his hand.

Then, with a wave of his hand downward, the pillar descended with lightning speed.

In the blink of an eye, the pillar consumed the Ogres whole.

Not a single piece of flesh could be seen outside the pillar of light.

The world fell silent for a few moments.

It was as though the humans had suddenly become incapable of hearing anything when—

BOOOOM!

A cataclysmic explosion tore through the streets as a shockwave of immense intensity and power blasted in every direction.

Windows exploded into a rain of shards.

Roofs collapsed as though they were made out of leaves.

Cars were lifted into the air before being sent crashing through buildings.

Screams erupted from all around the area as pellets of white fire were thrown in every direction.

Anywhere they touched, flames erupted.

All while Ray remained standing.

The shockwave slammed into him with enough force to make his robes whip violently through the air, yet he remained completely unmoving.

His silver hair waved wildly in the storm.

His robes flapped behind him.

And as the devastation continued raging around him, his eyes slowly reverted to their original grey colour.

A slight, devilish smirk crossed his lips.

’Elyon, I love you. Now I know why this skill costs so much. And here I thought that my Celestial bloodline was useless.’

The white pillar dispersed almost immediately, as if a gigantic gale of wind had descended into its midst.

And when it vanished, everybody could finally see what had been left behind.

The concrete ground where the Ogres had stood only moments ago had completely melted.

Not even a speck of ash from their bodies remained.

Their weapons, bones, and flesh had all melted along with the ground, leaving behind a gaping hollow that yawned open in the earth.

’Ugh...’

Ray suddenly felt light-headed.

His vision seemed to sway slightly as he took a step backward.

His balance failed him.

He stumbled down onto one knee.

The sound of approaching footsteps rang in his ears.

The backup he had summoned with his howl was almost upon him.
