Chapter 507

"...."

"....!!!"

"...."

Worldwide, everybody was having the same reaction.

Though it wasn’t as exaggerated as it could have been because they already knew the Vanguard before them was a werewolf, the sheer fact that he had made dealing with hordes of King-rank beasts look so effortless was enough to leave them speechless.

It was like he hadn’t even broken much of a sweat.

Hundreds of King-rank beasts had been tearing through the city moments ago.

Now?

They were dead.

And the sixteen-year-old Vanguard responsible for it was simply sitting there.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that the streamer was using his phone, aside from the increasingly loud bangs and blasts, the viewers couldn’t hear what Ray was actually saying.

And just like that, comments began flooding the livestream while the follower count for the cinematographer continued rising as well.

[Unknown viewer: Fuck. This werewolf again? Wait, did he just defeat hundreds of King-rank beasts alone?]

[James: Man, man, man... what sort of a fellow is this? Even as we persecuted him, he didn’t stand back and watch humans die. He actually stepped up?]

[Drag: Not gonna lie, I thought he would still be holding up a grudge, but he is actually selfless? Makes it hard to hate him, to be sincere.]

[Proud Hater 101: Doesn’t change the fact that he is still a werewolf—a danger to humanity. Look, guys, open your damned eyes and see! Who in the Vanguard Order, except for the sole exception of the Spine Reaper, can do this? A monster, I say. We need to get rid of him fast.]

[Jimmy_Parker: You know? I made it my life’s mission to track you wherever you go. If you want to eliminate him so badly, why don’t you do it yourself, eh?]

[Proud Hater 101: I will do it. You just watch. Let me garner enough money for an overpowered ability and I will get rid of him myself.]

[Joker: Ha! He doesn’t even have an ability to begin with. What a larper.]

The comments continued flowing while the person they were discussing could be seen panting softly as he sat down on the bare ground before the dead beast.

His back was turned towards the glowing Gate in the distance.

Seeing as no more beasts were coming out of the Gate, the remaining survivors hiding deep within the buildings could be seen cautiously peeking out.

One by one, they began emerging, their hands trembling and their gazes filled with uncertainty.

"Is—Is it over already?"

"Di—Did the Vanguard Order really come on time? Ah—ah, thank goodness."

Ray listened to their words but didn’t make any effort to reveal himself.

He simply folded his legs towards his body while drawing ragged breaths, allowing himself a moment to recover.

Turning his head slightly in the direction of the Gate, his brows drew closer.

’Seriously, though, why hasn’t the boss shown itself? I’m getting worried over here.’

And truth be told, Ray’s heart was pounding with a mixture of excitement and fear.

The hands he had placed on the ground could be seen trembling subtly beneath him.

An Emperor-rank boss?

That was hell mode for him.

The last time he had faced one, he had his friends with him and had been lucky—like incredibly lucky.

But now, although he had something he could use, he wasn’t about to throw his life away for nothing.

After all, those who had destroyed his food were long gone.

And even though there was still a pang of hatred towards the boss that had sent these monsters out, Ray wasn’t dumb enough to do something stupid.

Someone else could handle it.

Hence, he lifted a finger towards his ear.

"Captain, I have done my part. Send reinforcements over here and come close the Gate. I’m d—"

"—Actually, the Order wants you to close the Gate yourself."

"....."

Ray blinked in confusion for a second as his mind processed what the Captain had just said.

Close the Gate?

Didn’t that mean facing the Emperor-rank beast?

"Heck no! No, no, no. Even if I’m paid five thousand weekly, this is well above my pay grade. I ain’t doing such!" Ray shouted down the communication device.

"...Send some men or come down here yourself to do this. I have friends waiting for me back at the ba—"

"—Unfortunately, nobody in the Order, not the Sergeants and neither can the normal Vanguards, handle something as steep as an Emperor-rank beast."

"What about you? You aren’t called the Spine Reaper for nothing, though."

"...."

"Yawnn... honestly, I’m too tired. I feel incredibly sleepy, and I can’t fight while I’m sleepy, though. Besides, you are the one I trust the most to do this.

"You have the strength to back this up, and no one in the Order can do this. Even your monster of a friend can’t do this. And for some reason, I believe in you. Knowing you, you will just come back stronger from this. I really don’t know how you do this still."

"Uh-huh. Nope. I ain’t doing this. I’m sorry, Captain, I will have to disobey this Order. I’m also t—"

"Twenty thousand."

"...."

Ray blinked once.

"Huh?"

Raze sighed from the other end, then took another sip of his coffee before letting out a tired breath.

"Twenty thousand credits, a hover bike, and you will also get to keep half the beast cores of the beasts you killed. Deal or no deal?"

Ray’s fingers twitched for a second.

His entire body slowly turned around until he was staring directly at the swirling blue vortex in the distance.

Even from this distance, its eerie blue light illuminated his face.

For a moment, Ray remained silent.

Then, a smile appeared.

That smile quickly stretched into a wide grin.

"Come on, Captain. You should have said this earlier. It would have saved us a lot of time. Tsk."

"So you will do it?"

"Will I get all I’m promised?"

Raze thought for a moment.

"Yes."

Ray shrugged as he began walking forward—towards the Gate.

"Then say less."

Cutting the signal, Ray continued walking towards the Gate while rolling his shoulders and his stiff neck, hearing them crack with every step he took.

Soon, whispers and murmurs could be heard from the surrounding buildings.

"Wai—wait. What is he doing? Why is he going towards the Gate?"

"Is he mad? He might be a werewolf, but what is—what is he doing? That’s suicide."

"Well, good riddance."

Ray ignored every word.

His focus remained fixed on the swirling blue vortex ahead.

Standing directly in front of the Gate, Ray’s eyes scanned it carefully.

Thankfully, it hadn’t changed colour.

He breathed a small sigh of relief.

"Full Recovery."

Soon, he watched as his Energy, MF bar, and all the skills he had used came off cooldown while the exhaustion weighing down his body disappeared.

The fatigue vanished.

The heaviness in his muscles faded.

His breathing steadied.

Ray flexed his fingers once.

Fully refreshed.

Taking a step forward, half of his body passed through the Gate.

The blue vortex rippled around him.

"Well, here we go."

With another step, the boy’s entire form flickered out of view.
