{OI, Host! You didn’t have to go that far. Look at how destroyed your hands are!}
Ray didn’t rush to reply. Instead, the sound of drones panning through the air caught his attention, and he turned his head towards them as they scanned him from head to toe.
For a moment, the Tribrid’s eyes drifted over the organs and gore scattered across the ground. His jaws tightened.
Without giving it much thought, Ray turned his full attention towards one of the drones hovering dangerously close to his face, seemingly determined to give the viewers a front-row seat to the aftermath.
Van opened his mouth to call out to his friend, but before he could say anything, Ray’s deep voice slithered through the air, directed at the drones hovering before him.
"I know you’re all watching—you so-called Big Five, the ones behind the attack on Wall Rose and the Invasion a month ago."
The comment section, which had been on the verge of exploding just a second earlier, fell silent as everyone’s attention shifted towards the screen. They wanted to hear what Ray had to say.
"...A year ago, your kind took my family and my home from me. Today, I returned stronger than before and took back what was mine. I came to retake it, and I accomplished my mission."
Ray slowly lifted one of his limp hands. Beneath his damaged skin, his bones began mending into place.
[Celestial Healing Activated]
A soft white light enveloped his entire body, concentrating around his shattered arms.
CRACK!
His bones clicked back into place as torn veins and flesh began knitting themselves together at an astonishing pace. Everyone watching could only stare as the healing continued.
Soon, one of his hands had recovered enough for him to reach out and grab the drone hovering closest to his face. Although it had yet to return to peak condition, it was functional once more.
"I came, I saw, and I conquered. But this isn’t over. This is just the first phase of my revenge."
The Big Five of the Aberrants listened attentively, the boy’s face filling their screen.
"...I just want you all to know that I will find you. I will hunt you to the edge of this universe, and the next time I see you, it’s on sight.
"I will make sure you all pay for every crime committed against humanity... against me. Mark my words. The day I find out where you’re hiding, I will come for you alone."
His grip tightened around the drone, his fingers curling around its edges until a hairline crack appeared across its supposedly indestructible surface.
His teeth ground against each other, the sound audible even through the drone’s microphone.
"You took this place a year ago. I took it back. And just like this, I will keep taking your homes, your lives, and your power away from you. I will get you all one day. Mark this day."
His eyes burned with determination as he delivered his final declaration.
"The name is Ray Dawson, and I swear it—I will vanquish all Aberrants. Cower in fear at my coming!"
His eyes instantly glowed white, while an invisible grey light enveloped his hand.
With a flick of his wrist, he hurled the drone away with such force that it tore into a building before bouncing across the ground several metres away.
On the other side of the Wall, Johnny screamed in pain.
"My drone!"
...
The holographic screen the Big Five had been using to watch the livestream abruptly went dark.
A silence unlike any before descended upon the round table.
Nobody spoke. Each of them was left alone with their thoughts.
Yakz’s expression remained unchanged. He merely tapped his finger against the table, his eyes calm and stoic as he processed Ray’s declaration.
The other members of the Big Five, however, weren’t nearly as composed.
"That kid! How dare he threaten us?! Does he even know who we are? Does he have any idea how powerful we are?! He’s nothing but a pebble, yet he thinks he can challenge a mountain?!" Splicer shouted furiously.
Her elongated tail lashed wildly as she spoke.
It sliced through the air with a sharp whistle, moving like an incredibly sharpened sword.
It was as though even her tail resonated with her fury.
"A year ago, huh? Too bad I didn’t meet him personally back then. But he looks like a fun one, so I might have to make an appearance again," Colossus uttered, rubbing his chin.
Despite the others cursing aloud, Yakz remained silent.
Although he appeared calmer than the others, inwardly, it was a different story.
His mind was spinning like an out-of-control truck. The image of Ray standing there, bathed in sunlight and swearing at them, flashed through his head over and over again.
Soon, the sunlight was replaced by crimson blood raining down on the boy.
Something snapped inside him as a chilling, sinister grin crept across his lips.
"Hmm. Interesting," Yakz uttered before rising from his chair, which remained firmly in place.
He stepped away from the table and turned around, about to leave, when Silver called out to him.
"Where are you headed? Aren’t we supposed to discuss what to do about this werewolf? Don’t tell me you don’t consider him a threat."
"..."
Yakz halted, but without turning around, he spoke over his shoulder.
"He is a threat, all right, and we will definitely deal with him. But for now, my project takes priority, and unfortunately, I’m in no mood to go into the lab right now. Which is why..."
He paused, his fists tightening at his sides. His seven spines vibrated, glowing with golden light, before he silently exhaled.
"...I have to go train."
With that, the Aberrant vanished as though he had never existed in the room.
There was no disturbance in space, nor was there a crack of the sound barrier. He simply left in the blink of an eye.
Orvak leaned back in his chair with a silent groan.
"Damn. I wonder which unfortunate Aberrant he’s going to spar with in that mood."
Silver rubbed her face with a groan.
"At the rate he trains, soon we won’t have any men left to attack humanity. Tsk."
