Ray staggered, his head spinning as dizziness washed over him. His friends immediately shouted his name in unison before rushing towards him.

Kai was about to take a step forward when he felt a hand grab his own and pull him back.

Turning around, he found Layla grinning at him.

"Come on, lil bro. Let’s head home."

Shadows pooled beneath the siblings’ feet.

Unfortunately, nobody could help Kai. Even Captain Raze had started moving towards Ray, but before he could get close, he felt a peculiar vibration beneath his feet.

His eyes snapped towards the source, only to find Layla and Kai slowly sinking into the shadows. The handsome Legacy wore a sad, somewhat frightened expression.

Their lower torsos had already disappeared beneath the shadows when the Captain suddenly burst forward at lightning speed.

The earth twisted and turned beneath him, ready to seize Kai before he could be taken away. However, Layla simply stuck out her tongue at the approaching man.

"Don’t interfere."

Shadows burst outward in waves, forcing Raze to halt for half a second. His vision was completely obscured, and he couldn’t immediately tell whether the sudden darkness was an attack.

A second later, the shadows vanished from his view.

So did Layla and Kai.

Ray hadn’t noticed anything, and neither had his friends. They were a dozen metres away, surrounding their exhausted comrade.

Raze remained where he stood, blinking in frustration.

*Damn it! How did a member of my squad get kidnapped right in front of me, and I couldn’t react in time?! Who the hell is she?!*

"Ohoy, Ray! You have to teach me that last move of yours. That was peak brutality!" Felix chuckled, gently slapping the Tribrid on the back.

"Oh, Ray... we won!" Van cried, throwing himself over his best friend.

His eyes welled up with tears, and Ray’s soon followed.

Sniffling, the Tribrid croaked, "Ye-yes, we won. Our dead families should be happy with us. We took back our home."

Tears soaked Ray’s robes as he held his best friend tighter. Tears rolled down his cheeks too, and the two of them clung to each other, sobbing uncontrollably.

Their friends remained close, surrounding them and gently rubbing their backs as the two best friends finally let out the grief they had carried for so long.
