Chapter 578

FOUR DAYS LATER!

Four days had passed since the retaking of Wall Rose.

Four days had also passed since Kai was forcibly taken back home.

Two days earlier, just as Captain Raze had predicted, assistance had arrived directly from the Big Four to help rebuild Wall Rose.

However, the Blue Family had refused to get involved. Doing so would risk making the Wall technologically more advanced than it had been before, which went against their original intentions.

As a result, most of the men who arrived belonged to the Blade Family, which had sent personnel from the military. A few men from the Kyre Family had also followed, alongside a much larger number of men from the Immortal Flame Family.

With their unique abilities, the reconstruction was progressing swiftly.

Within just two days, the destroyed sections of the Wall, which had been riddled with enormous holes and several collapsed sections, were repaired by the Earth ability users from the Blade Family.

The Wall was now as good as new.

The next task was to rebuild the structures and houses while putting certain measures in place to ensure that what had happened a year ago would never happen again.

Captain Raze had been ordered by the Commander to oversee the entire project.

Naturally, his squad also helped wherever they could.

Caster took charge of the Kyre Family’s contingent. Considering that he was an heir to the family, the men naturally listened to him.

Everyone began working as hard as they could.

The three separate factions worked together, although they occasionally tried to outdo one another, each hoping to prove itself superior to the others.

With so many people working together, small fights and arguments were bound to break out, no matter how smoothly the project progressed. Whenever they did, members of Raze’s squad were usually the ones who had to step in and break them up.

Van was possibly the person working ten times harder than anyone else.

He had practically locked himself inside a temporary station built by Raze, where he worked day and night.

Whatever materials he needed were provided, allowing him to focus entirely on developing machinery that could assist with the reconstruction.

Since the Blue Family hadn’t sent any technology experts, that responsibility had fallen on Van, who was working himself to the bone to compensate for their absence.

Whether it was machines capable of smoothing out roads, producing asphalt, or transporting materials from one place to another, Van was determined to handle it all.

With his friends working so hard, Ray refused to be left out.

Unfortunately, there was barely anything he could do to help.

Within just two days of the workers’ arrival, the Wall had been rebuilt, and several structures had been erected alongside a few reconstructed houses.

Ray watched the entire process intently, paying close attention to how the workers went about their tasks.

Eventually, he decided to try replicating what he had observed by heading to a different section of the Wall, the very place where his old house had once stood.

After secretly acquiring some building materials, he began working on rebuilding his home without anybody’s help.

He was diligent, and as the work progressed, he was rarely seen unless he emerged to steal more materials from the workers.

Complaints about missing bricks, tools, cement, and other building supplies became increasingly common.

Some workers even began wondering whether a ghost was responsible for the disappearances.

Nobody suspected Ray.

At least, they wouldn’t have suspected him even if they had seen him.

What truly made some of the workers consider the possibility of a ghost was the sight of bricks hovering in midair before suddenly darting away.

They might have been spooked by such a sight, but alas, they had already seen far worse things in their lives.

Not a single person realised that the Tribrid was using his ’Stealth’ skill to steal their supplies.

’What a useful skill this really is. Who knew it had other uses besides assassination?’

He repeatedly told himself as he worked on rebuilding his new home, relying on his memories of how the builders worked and what he could remember of his former house.

Meanwhile, Trisha was constantly using her ability to patch up various damaged sections, preparing them for the Earth ability users who would arrive to finish the work.

The Kyre Family’s aides, who made up perhaps the smallest contingent among the groups sent to Wall Rose, were all beast tamers.

They put their beasts to work transporting materials from one place to another.

Essentially, they had become the project’s transportation team.

Bonny and Johnny hadn’t left Wall Rose either. They constantly went live to show the world how hard everyone was working to rebuild the Wall. At other times, they would conduct interviews, moving from one worker to another as they talked to them and asked questions.

The residents of Wall Rose were always happy whenever the duo went live, as it allowed them to see how close—or how far—they were from finally returning home.

Seeing the teenagers who had helped retake the Wall continue working to rebuild it also made the residents view them in a different light. Without even realising it, the young Vanguards were steadily gaining followers and winning the hearts of the people.

While all this was happening in Wall Rose, something else was unfolding in one of the biggest cities in Wall Steel.

.....

Lakesview City.

A city renowned as one of the largest commercial centres in Wall Steel, Lakesview could also boast of having one of the highest populations in the region.

The city was beautiful, with a famous lake that attracted tourists from far and wide.

It also bordered another, much smaller city, with people constantly travelling between the two.

And just like any other afternoon, on this particularly hot day, a hover bike could be seen zipping through the streets of Lakesview City.

It was a perfectly normal occurrence, as several hover bikes could usually be seen moving around the city.

The hover bike blazed through the streets at astonishing speed until it reached the heart of the city—a bustling centre filled with activity.

Then, it came to an abrupt stop in the middle of the street.

The rider dismounted without removing their helmet. Reaching for a briefcase resting on the bike, they picked it up and walked forward with careful, measured steps.

They entered a nearby building.

A minute later, they emerged with the same briefcase.

The figure placed it back on the hover bike and appeared ready to climb aboard when, without warning, they suddenly flickered out of sight.

They had teleported away from the bike as though it were the most ordinary thing in the world.

Several passers-by noticed the strange occurrence.

Their gazes darted around the area, searching for the missing rider.

Ever since the emergence of abilities, Metas had become known for doing all sorts of strange things, but this was still unusual.

"Where did he go?"

Some curious passers-by couldn’t understand what had happened, but they eventually decided to approach the abandoned hover bike, wondering why anyone would leave something so expensive behind.

As a small crowd began gathering around the vehicle, a few brave men stepped forward and reached for the briefcase.

Just then—

Beeep—! Beeep—! Beeep—!

Before anyone could react, the brown briefcase suddenly began glowing a molten red.

And then—

KA-BOOOOOM!

An explosion of unimaginable magnitude erupted, spreading across kilometres and swallowing everything in its path.

The sheer heat and force of the blast incinerated whatever it touched, reducing people to ash in an instant.

This was no ordinary bomb.

It was a nuclear bomb.

A weapon that the Big Four had banned from ever being created or used.

Yet, somehow, one had just detonated in the middle of a bustling city.

The explosion was so catastrophic that its effects extended into the neighbouring city, devastating everything in its reach.

Lakesview City was reduced to rubble, ash, and shattered lives.
