Chapter 589

Just as they had requested, Ray was forced to begin narrating the story of how it all started.

From the Wall Rose disaster and their escape to the rock fusing with him and burning his ability book.

As he spoke, he rubbed the back of his left hand, the memories resurfacing in his mind.

At some point, Van even took over the narration, explaining how the burnt books had thrown him against the train and how the people had held him back from reaching Ray.

He went on to explain how the Tribrid had lost consciousness and how everyone had assumed he was dead.

They had even considered throwing him out of the train, fearing something might emerge from his body.

No matter how hard Van kicked or struggled, they refused to listen. They forcefully pushed him aside and were about to throw Ray out when they realised he was still alive. Only then did they leave him alone.

Ray then took over and narrated how his consciousness had awakened during the Tier One Gate disaster when he had been on the verge of death.

He deliberately left out every detail related to the System.

For now, only Kai and Van knew about it, and he intended to keep it that way.

The less they knew, the better.

He also narrated how his Werewolf consciousness had nearly killed him, had it not been for his Celestial consciousness stepping in to stop him.

He told them about the countless arguments, fights, and conversations that had taken place in his mindspace. He even explained the visions and fragmented memories his two consciousnesses occasionally experienced.

He shared every other detail he could think of, including how his body worked and how the three bloodlines coexisted within him.

"Oh. The Werewolf’s name is Bruce, and the Celestial is Elyon. So that’s it. That’s how everything has been."

"...."

A moment of silence followed as everyone absorbed the information, pondering and mulling over everything they had just heard.

Nobody said a word for several seconds, which stretched into a minute or two.

They were trying to put themselves in Ray’s shoes, but no matter how hard they tried, they simply couldn’t.

Yes, being a Tribrid came with the perk of immense power, but it also meant living with the fear of having someone else take control of your body while you were powerless to do anything about it.

Now they understood what drove him to constantly seek greater strength.

"The rock. You said it was alive?" Caster asked.

"Yes. It seemed to be searching for something, but I don’t know what," Ray replied with a shrug.

"Out of everyone on that train, why you? It sounds to me like it had finally found what it was searching for," Caster added, resting his elbow on his knee.

"Come to think of it, why would a rock carrying the consciousnesses of a Celestial and a Werewolf be roaming around in the first place? Where did it even come from?" Van asked, his eyes narrowing as he stared at Ray.

Raze couldn’t help but chime in either, as the question was beginning to bother him.

"Exactly. Why would a rock be carrying the consciousnesses of two different races? Isn’t that suspicious?"

"More like intentional, as if the rock was meant to do that. It seems there’s still a lot left for us to uncover. Too bad they don’t have their memories at the moment." Chloe clicked her tongue.

Ray’s brows drew together in thought as the questions began to bother him as well.

’Yeah. Why was a rock carrying you and Bruce, along with the System? Isn’t that weird?’

«Yes, it is. But I have no recollection of why that could be the case. May-maybe now that we’re here, we could find someone who knows about me? Someone who could give us the information we see—?»

’Who could know you better? Who could know more about the Celestials than the First Ones?’ Ray mused, his jaws tightening.

"And you say that the Werewol... uh, Bruce is unavailable at the moment?" Van asked with a raised brow.

Ray nodded.

"Wow. This is a lot. I wonder what could have happened to make them start sharing a body with a human. Are you sure one of your parents wasn’t a Celestial or a Werewolf?" Caster asked with a chuckle, a question that seemed to rattle Ray for a moment.

’Didn’t Felix ask me this question once? Come to think of it, I don’t think my parents are inhuman. But then...’ he muttered inwardly as images rushed through his mind.

’... Dad is barely around. Wait, hang on... Dad was never a Vanguard, so why? Why did he join the war and die?’

It felt as though cogwheels were beginning to turn in his mind. His eyes slowly widened with worry when—

"So there’s no way to escape right now? And was it just me, or did Felix look frightened at the thought of returning home? Why would he be afraid?" Chloe asked.

"I wonder what’s with everybody being afraid to return home. First Kai, and now Felix? Isn’t something fishy going on here? Could they be in danger?" Caster added, rubbing his temples as a headache began to form.

Ray clenched his hands tightly as several thoughts rushed through his mind.

Without warning, he pushed himself to his feet and began walking away.

Everyone’s eyes followed him.

"Where are you headed?" Van called out.

"Need to clear my head," Ray replied, and soon, he was walking faster and faster.

His heart thumped loudly with every passing second.

He didn’t know where he was headed. He simply kept walking deeper and deeper into the Celestial Space until his friends vanished from sight.

He continued forward, the endless sea of white stretching farther and farther ahead like a never-ending road.

’Co-Could Dad have been carrying an inhuman gene without even knowing it?’ His throat was becoming parched.

Hastily, he reached into his inventory and pulled out the [Infinite Spring].

Opening the bottle, he began chugging down the water, drinking like someone who had been deprived of it for years.

The more he drank, the more the bottle refilled itself, refusing to run dry.

After about a minute or two, he finally pulled the bottle away from his mouth with a sigh of satisfaction.

"I don’t know that yet. But what I do know is that I need to be properly prepared for whatever comes next. Since I can’t access my Werewolf bloodline, I’ll just have to strengthen my body, just in case," he mumbled as he sent the bottle back into his inventory.

Something flashed before his eyes.
