My Wife Might Be a Saintess
Chapter 652: What on Earth Did You Fish Up?
Chapter 652 -651: What on Earth Did You Fish Up?
Jingyue sat quietly, concentrating hard. Last time had been a mistake, which was why Elder Xuanwu managed to get a bite in. Otherwise, Sweet Potato wouldn’t have been bitten.
Duan Qiao, meanwhile, sat nonchalantly on the ground. ‘Days without the Great Demon are so relaxing.’
‘I really hope days like these last a little longer.’
‘Fishing for little things now and then is especially fun. A Spirit Fruit here, a Magical Treasure there… one or two of them are bound to be useful.’
‘All things considered, it’s actually quite wealthy.’
‘Of course, it can’t compare to the Great Demon. He can casually pick up something priceless, but he always looks down on it.’
‘And don’t even get me started on the things on the balcony. Not a single one is ordinary; they’re all treasures that would cause a major fight.’
Even Sweet Potato could start a fight—a fight among the Four Holy Beasts, naturally.
After all, he was the shame of the Four Holy Beasts.
No one could possibly imagine which Vermilion Bird had lost its mind and produced such a Vermilion Bird Descendant.
Just then, Jingyue moved, lifting her fishing rod.
The water surface remained calm, and then Xuanwu leaped out.
Xuanwu’s first bite nearly connected, but it didn’t matter. It had a follow-up move.
The snake head shot out directly. Jingyue grew excited when she saw it coming and gave another gentle tug.
The snake head and Sweet Potato missed by a hair’s breadth, brushing past each other.
As Xuanwu splashed back into the water, Jingyue exclaimed, “Wow, that was so exciting!”
“You’ve been corrupted by Fifth Brother,” Xuanwu complained, displeased.
But its voice was especially childlike, making it sound like a little girl sulking.
Jingyue smiled. “You’re right, Elder. So feel free to blame my master. Bite her next time she comes.”
Xuanwu said, “Then hurry up and give me that duck. Let me bite it to death.”
Jingyue shook her head. “I can’t. If I did that, how could I play with Elder Xuanwu anymore? It’s rare to find someone I can have so much fun with. My master definitely wouldn’t let me do that.”
“I’ll go tell Fifth Brother,” Xuanwu said.
Jingyue was about to reply when she suddenly saw Duan Qiao being pulled into the water by its fishing rod.
In her haste, she grabbed Duan Qiao. But that single pull caused Xuanwu to leap out again. Although Jingyue reacted, Sweet Potato was still bitten.
“QUACK??” Sweet Potato cried out.
Jingyue braced herself, holding onto Sweet Potato’s side of the line.
“Elder Xuanwu, let go! I’m pulling two things at once, I can’t hold on!” Jingyue shouted.
Xuanwu replied, “Just let go. I’m not giving up this time.”
Jingyue said, “You didn’t give up last time, either.”
Then Jingyue turned to Duan Qiao. “What did you do?”
Duan Qiao looked completely bewildered. “I don’t know! I think I hooked something, but it’s so strong I can’t control it at all.”
Jingyue said, “Then just let it go.”
Duan Qiao shook its head. “I can’t! I tried to let go, but now it won’t let go of me!”
Jingyue: “…”
‘What is even happening?’
‘Can someone please tell me what I’m supposed to do now?’
Jingyue was about to lose her grip, but something gave out before she did: her fishing rod. With a CRACK, it snapped.
Jingyue: “…”
Sweet Potato: “QUACK???”
Xuanwu: “Huh? Why did it happen again?”
Then they all fell into the lake. Sweet Potato escaped once again, and with half a fishing rod still attached, it turned tail and ran.
“QUACK QUACK QUACK…”
‘It’s over for me,’ it thought.
‘I want to go home.’ Remembering what used to happen here made it shudder all over.
Xuanwu wasn’t about to let Sweet Potato get away; it also started running across the lake’s surface.
‘Perhaps swimming would be faster,’ the Little Whale thought to itself.
Jingyue no longer cared about her lost fishing rod. Now, she had to hold onto Duan Qiao.
She gripped Duan Qiao and pulled with both hands.
This was incredibly strenuous for Jingyue.
“What in the world did you hook?” Jingyue asked with great difficulty.
Duan Qiao said in agony, “I don’t know! I only ever fish for small things.”
It was in agony too. Being gripped so tightly by Jingyue, it felt like it was about to be crushed.
‘Damn it all, this lake is bad luck.’
‘I should’ve known not to go fishing.’
By now, Jingyue was using her Cultivation, but she still couldn’t pull it in. In fact, she felt herself being slowly dragged in.
Jingyue was horrified. Forgetting everything else, she yelled, “Elder Xuanwu, help! We’re being dragged away!”
Xuanwu glanced over and refused. “No way. Humans are the most cunning. You’re tricking me. You’ve gone bad.”
Jingyue said frantically, “No, I’m not! It’s true, Elder Xuanwu!”
Xuanwu said, “There’s nothing in the lake, and the Little Whale hasn’t come out. How can you say you’re not tricking me? Look, that duck is getting away from me again.”
Jingyue shouted, “Elder Xuanwu, it’s real, I swear! Come over and try it! If I’m lying, I’ll catch Sweet Potato for you!”
Xuanwu looked at Jingyue, hesitated for a moment, and asked, “Really?”
Jingyue nodded desperately. “Really, really!”
At that, Xuanwu climbed into the sky, then came up behind Jingyue and wrapped its snake head around her waist.
It planned to give just a gentle tug. It was still convinced Jingyue was tricking it.
Then, it pulled.
‘Huh? It didn’t budge.’
It added a bit more force.
‘Hey, still not moving.’
‘Alright, I’ll use some real strength.’
‘Whoa, what’s going on?’
Finally, Xuanwu began to pull with all its might, but the more it pulled, the more it felt it couldn’t move the thing.
Not only that, but the force from the other side was getting stronger.
Jingyue shouted, “Elder Xuanwu, pull harder! I feel like I’m getting closer to the edge!”
Xuanwu: “…”
‘I can’t pull it!’
Then Xuanwu used every last ounce of its strength.
In the end, it still couldn’t move it. It was even being pulled back.
Then Xuanwu bellowed, “Little Whale, come out and help me!”
The moment Xuanwu called, a gigantic whale suddenly flew out from the lake’s surface.
As soon as the whale appeared, it radiated a nauseating wave of Chaos.
Although faint, it was still enough to make one feel uneasy.
Sweet Potato fainted on the spot.
It was, after all, just an ordinary duck.
Jingyue felt unwell, but she could bear it. Besides, she had the Little Wild Cat’s card, so she was fine.
As for Duan Qiao, it felt nothing at all.
Even the Little Wild Cat couldn’t affect it.
The whale appeared and flew behind Xuanwu without hesitation, then bit down on Xuanwu and began to pull backward.
The moment it started pulling, the whale was stunned. It actually had some trouble moving it.
Then, it used its full strength. Only then did they gain the upper hand.
The thing on the other end was slowly being pulled out.
Xuanwu was shocked. ‘I’ve been in this lake for so long, since when was there something in here that I couldn’t pull?’
Even the Little Whale was barely managing it.
Just then, something finally appeared on the water’s surface. The first thing to emerge was a ray of Golden Light.
It covered nearly half of the Holy Beast Lake.
“My god, what in the world did you hook?” Jingyue cried out in anguish.
Duan Qiao was completely baffled. ‘How could I possibly know? This is just my rotten luck.’
Finally, with a mighty heave from the Little Whale, Jingyue and the others were sent flying, and the thing at the bottom of the lake finally emerged.
It was a gigantic sphere.
And it was golden yellow.
The moment the sphere appeared, a massive, illusory figure began to form above it. “Who has disturbed this old man’s peaceful slumber?”
