Chapter 401: Chapter 56: The Cost of a Star and the Art of Apology

The roaring energy in the room finally faded.

High above in the stratosphere, the massive spatial portals to the sun closed with a soft, almost anticlimactic pop. The terrifying, planetary-scale stellar extraction stopped. The massive energy vortex that had been tearing at the sky above the academy instantly dissipated, the clouds snapping back into place as the atmospheric pressure equalized.

Everywhere became calm once again. The sky cleared, returning to a bright, peaceful blue.

Inside the sealed, cracked, and half-destroyed Training Room Seven, Ash sat in the quiet.

He circulated the Boundless Omni Art, smoothing out the turbulent energy, locking his foundation into place. He was now at the absolute Peak of the Martial Grandmaster Realm. Although he hadn’t been able to break through to the Martial King realm, the sheer energy density and quantity in his body was now far higher than that of a normal Martial Sovereign.

He opened his eyes and let out a long, slow breath. Then, he stood up.

The movement was smooth, but it felt entirely different. His center of gravity had shifted. He felt impossibly light, yet infinitely dense at the same time. Every muscle, every bone, every cell had been packed with the power of a star and refined by nine perfect Cosmic Laws.

He walked over to the small, half-cracked mirror hanging on the wall to check for any residual impurities.

He stopped and stared.

The changes were massive.

He had grown vastly taller. His posture was naturally perfect, carrying a quiet, gravitational weight that made the air around him seem to part. His physical proportions had been refined to an extreme, almost unfair degree.

His hair, once ordinary black, was now a flowing, shimmering silver. It moved slightly, catching the light, even though there was no wind in the sealed room.

But it was his eyes that held his attention the longest. The irises were the color of silver starlight—deep, clear, and holding the faint, swirling reflection of a mental cosmos. When he blinked, it looked like a nebula shifting in the dark.

His facial features had been completely rewritten. The slight softness of his youth was gone, replaced by sharp, clean lines. He looked like the main character of the high-budget fantasy dramas he used to watch. He looked like he cost a lot of money to produce.

Ash touched his cheek, genuinely surprised.

"Well," he said softly to the empty room. "I definitely don’t look like an E-Rank anymore."

He looked down at himself. He realized with a start that his original academy training clothes had completely disintegrated during his Peak Grandmaster breakthrough. He was currently standing in the room in his underlayers, which were also heavily scorched.

He needed new clothes.

Instead of picking another one from his spatial pouch, he decided to test his new Law Application. He needed to know how his Law interacted with the physical world now.

He extended his spiritual sense. He used Space Law to map the exact atomic structure of the fabric he wanted—something durable, flexible, and comfortable.

Then, he used Metal Law and Life Law to pull ambient cosmic energy from the air. He forced the raw energy to cool, condense, and take physical atomic form. Finally, he used Force Law to bind the atoms together at a molecular level, weaving them into threads.

It wasn’t magic. It was absolute, applied physics. Anyone with a sufficiently high mastery of the Laws could literally make matter from nothing.

Silver and dark gray energy materialized in the air around his body. In seconds, the energy solidified. The threads wove themselves together, forming a sleek, perfectly fitted set of robes. The fabric felt like silk against his skin, but his spiritual sense told him it had the tensile strength of star-metal.

Dressed, he looked up toward the ceiling.

His 100% Space Law which was integrated into every single part of his body, and his eyes, easily pierced the spatial isolation, roof, the atmosphere, and the stratosphere. He locked eyes with Sovereign Kael Thorne and Sovereign Lyra Veyra, who were hovering miles above, staring directly down at him.

Ash blinked.

He gave them a small, awkward smile and raised a hand in a casual wave.

Looks like I caused a massive disturbance, he thought, dropping his hand. I literally drained the sun and blew up the academy. I really need to be more mindful of where I cultivate next time.

He looked around the ruined room, then back up at the sky.

Next breakthrough, I’m cultivating inside a sun so I don’t call attention to myself.

He dropped his gaze and looked past the spatial isolation barrier Lyra had set up. He surveyed the academy grounds.

The western annex, where his room was located, was basically a crater. The surrounding dormitories and training fields were in ruins. The stone was shattered, the earth scorched, and the structural supports of the buildings were twisted metal from the conceptual shockwave and the massive energy draw.

He felt a genuine pang of guilt.

Ouch. That’s a lot of property damage. I am currently broke, I dont have any money to pay for any of this.

Then, his gaze shifted to the central plaza of the academy.

He saw the remaining instructors and millions of students sitting cross-legged on the ground in perfect lotus position. They were completely still, their spiritual senses extended outward, desperately trying to comprehend the fading fragments of his Sword, Fire, Space, and the other six Laws that permeated the air during his breakthrough.

The scene was breathtaking. The air above the plaza was thick with the fluctuations of cultivation.

To his left, a Martial Grandmaster’s aura suddenly surged, cracking the sound barrier as the man’s life level evolved. He was breaking through to the Martial King realm. To his right, a group of Peak Martial Apprentices were glowing with pure intent, breaking through to the Martial Master realm right there on the grass.

And at the very center of the plaza, bathed in the fading red and gold light of the Fire Law fragments, was Martial King Vance. Or rather, Emperor Vance. The insight from Ash’s pure Fire Law fragments had allowed him to complete his minor understanding of the Cosmic Fire Law, pushing him through the bottleneck and into the Martial Emperor realm.

Yet, despite the breakthroughs, the failures, and the envy, not a single person made a sound. Those who had finished didn’t dare move, terrified of disturbing the delicate mental state of those still grasping at the fading echoes of the Laws.

But their spiritual senses were wide awake, and the telepathic chatter was deafening.

Down in the crowd, Rylan sat cross-legged on the grass. He had managed to grasp and comprehend a tiny fragment of Metal intent, from the fragment of Metal Law, and his mind was buzzing with the profound insight.

But then a conceptual shockwave had hit, the sky had torn open and cleared instantly, and a golden pillar of light had erupted from the earth.

Now, the winds had died, and a single figure was ascending from the ruins of the western annex.

Rylan opened his eyes and looked up. The figure was wreathed in faint, starry light. His silver hair flowed in the gentle breeze, and his robes looked like they were woven from the night sky. He looked exactly like an immortal descending from the heavens.

Rylan stared.

Wait... that jawline looks familiar... Rylan thought, his brow furrowing. Why does it look oddly familiar to Ash’s. Come to think of it, where the hell is Ash?

He looked around the crowd, his spiritual sense sweeping the nearby students. He couldn’t find his best friend. He looked back up at the godly figure in the sky, and a sudden, absurd thought struck him.

Is he... Oh wait. That can’t be possible or is it.... Is that really him?

Rylan’s eyes widened. He looked at the direction the figure had emerged from.

He flew out from the direction of Ash’s training room.

Is it him?

Rylan was left beyond confused. He stared at the immortal in the sky, his mouth slightly open. If that was really Ash, how in the name of the cosmos had his lazy, show-watching, dumpling-eating best friend managed to do all this in just a few weeks? Rylan had been sitting in the sun learning how to breathe properly to settle his martial soul, while Ash had apparently been busy becoming a deity.

A few yards away, Emperor Vance opened his eyes. The newly minted Emperor looked up at Ash. His face was a mask of complicated emotions.

He felt a profound, overwhelming gratitude. Without the fragments of Fire Law radiating from this boy’s breakthrough, Vance would have been stuck at the Peak King realm for who knows how long. He owed this kid his life’s next step.

But beneath the gratitude was a heavy, crushing realization. Vance was a Martial Emperor now. He could dessimate a small moon with a thought. He was at the apex of the academy’s hierarchy. Yet, looking at the boy in the sky—a boy who was officially only a Martial Grandmaster from his aura—Vance felt like an ant looking at a dragon. The gap between them wasn’t just large; it was conceptual. It was enormous. Vance lowered his head slightly, a silent gesture of respect to a existence he could no longer comprehend.

High above, Ash decided to go up and say hello.

He stepped forward. Lyra’s spatial isolation barrier—a massive, impenetrable quarantine of null-space designed to cut the room off from the physical and conceptual fabric of the Earth—rippled around him.

He didn’t even use force. His 100% Space Law simply commanded the space to let him pass. He stepped through it like walking through a curtain of water.

As he floated up into the sky, he realized his passive aura was heavy enough to crush the students below. The air around him was warping under the sheer density of his energy. He consciously pulled it back, folding the nine Laws into his core until he felt like a normal, albeit very strong, Peak Grandmaster.

He looked back down at the ruined western academy. He raised his hands.

It was time to apologize. With action.

Ash used Space Law to lock onto the exact original spatial coordinates of the destroyed buildings. He mapped every brick, every steel beam, every pane of glass.

He used Life Law and Metal Law to pull ambient cosmic energy from the atmosphere, forcing the energy to cool, condense, and take physical atomic form. He commanded the carbon, iron, and silicon atoms to manifest exactly where they belonged.

He used Force Law to bind the atoms together at a molecular level, locking the chemical bonds into place.

From the ground, it looked like a miracle.

The rubble dissolved into glowing dust. The dust flowed upward in reverse gravity, weaving itself back into perfect stone, steel, and glass. The twisted metal untwisted. The shattered windows reformed.

But Ash didn’t just restore it. He improved it.

As he rebuilt the dormitories, he used his Metal Law to reinforce the internal energy arrays, making their cosmic energy conductivity twenty percent more efficient.

Then, he looked at the academy’s spirit garden, which had been scorched by the conceptual shockwave. The rare spiritual herbs were withered and dying.

Ash extended his hand and channeled Life Law.

A wave of pure, green-golden light washed over the garden. The soil instantly darkened, rich with revitalized nutrients. The withered herbs surged upward, their leaves glowing with intense potency. He didn’t just heal them; he accelerated their harvest cycle by years and vastly improved their medicinal quality. The air around the garden suddenly smelled incredibly sweet and heavy with spiritual energy.

In less than ten seconds, the entire western annex and the surrounding grounds were perfectly restored—and in many places, significantly upgraded.

High in the stratosphere, Kael and Lyra watched the reconstruction.

They were not shocked by the sight of atomic reconstruction. They were Martial Sovereigns; they could do this themselves. They had rebuilt entire cities from dust after alien invasions.

What shocked them was the person doing it. And the precision.

Kael’s jaw tightened slightly. "He’s rebuilding molecular structures using ambient energy. At Peak Grandmaster."

Lyra’s silver eyes were wide, tracking the microscopic flow of atoms. She was calculating the efficiency, the speed, and the mental processing power required to hold trillions of atomic bonds in place simultaneously.

"Look at the efficiency," she said, her voice carrying a rare note of genuine disbelief. "He didn’t waste a single joule of energy. He mapped the original coordinates and rebuilt it atom by atom in eight seconds. It took me months of practice to be able to apply my space law to this level."

They exchanged a glance. The "E-Rank" student wasn’t just a monster in raw power. His application of the Laws was already on par with, or slightly better than, their own. He was a monster of practical execution.

***

Ash floated up to hover beside Kael and Lyra in the stratosphere.

The wind was howling at this altitude, tearing at the clouds, but the three of them were completely unaffected. The air around them was perfectly still, bent to their will.

Ash looked at two of the most powerful physical beings in the solar system.

"Sorry about the noise," Ash said, his voice carrying easily over the wind. "And, uh, thanks for the solar energy. I probably should have asked before I snatched the controls from your hands, though."

Lyra sighed, a faint, exasperated smile touching her lips. "If you needed more energy, you could have just asked. Snatching the conceptual locks from a Sovereign is considered rude."

Kael chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound. He crossed his massive arms. "Yeah, that gave me a fright. I thought it was someone else far above us that did it. I was ready to go into combat mode."

The casual tone faded as Kael looked at Ash seriously. The broad-shouldered Sovereign’s eyes were sharp, analyzing the boy in front of him.

"You stopped at Peak Grandmaster," Kael said. It wasn’t a question. "You hit a wall."

Ash nodded, his silver eyes clear. "Yeah. My body, soul, and energy are perfectly fused. But my Laws are holding me back. I already used them to break through to Martial Master. To reach Martial King, I need a concept higher than True Cosmic Laws. And I don’t have that yet."

Lyra and Kael exchanged a single, loaded glance.

This was the opening they needed. They had been watching him, analyzing him, and waiting for the moment he realized his own limits.

"We might have a solution for your problem," Kael said, his voice dropping into a register of absolute, serious authority. "And in exchange, you can help us with ours."

Ash tilted his head. "I’m listening."

Kael didn’t waste time. He briefly explained the Planetary Cultivation Seed deep underground. He explained the history of the alien terraforming engine, the vortex of pure energy, and the terrifying truth that the Seed was waking up.

"The Seed operates likely operate with ’Origin Laws’," Kael explained, his hands gesturing to the planet below. "Concepts that sit above True Cosmic Laws. It’s rewriting the local physics of the planet. If it fully activates, it will tear the spatial fabric of Earth apart and wipe out the biosphere."

Ash listened quietly. His mind, processing at quantum speeds, immediately understood the implications. If the planet blew up, he couldn’t watch his shows. That was unacceptable.

"We need someone with 100% Space Law to help move or reseal the vortex," Kael continued. "Our Martial Saint is too far away, and the portals are destabilizing. You have the Space Law. We have the knowledge of the Origin Laws inside the Seed."

Lyra stepped forward. "If you help us neutralize or relocate the Seed, we will give you access to the decoded alien data cores. You will be able to study the Origin Laws. It’s the exact conceptual bridge you need to break through to Martial King."

Ash looked down at the beautiful blue curve of the Earth. He thought about his goal to live a long, peaceful life. He thought about the massive, apocalyptic threat ticking beneath his feet. And he thought about the wall blocking his cultivation.

It was a perfect trade.

Ash smiled, a sharp, confident expression that made him look every bit the heaven-defying genius he was.

"A concept higher than Laws, huh?" Ash said, his silver eyes reflecting the light of the sun. "Alright. You’ve got a deal."

He looked at Kael, then at Lyra.

"Let’s go dig up a planet."

Ash gave them one last nod, then turned and descended back toward the academy grounds to finish up somethings.

Kael and Lyra watched him go, their divine senses tracking the impossibly dense, perfectly controlled aura of the boy until he vanished back into the western annex.

They stood in the quiet of the stratosphere for a long moment. Then, a private, encrypted channel of divine sense opened between the two Sovereigns.

Kael’s thought-voice was quiet, carrying the weight of centuries of experience. "He’s not just a genius. He’s a walking variable."

Lyra’s mental reply was calm, analytical, and entirely pragmatic. "As long as that variable is pointed at the Seed, I’ll take it."

They turned their gaze back to the planet below. The crisis was far from over, but for the first time in months, the future of humanity didn’t look quite so bleak.
