Chapter 523 (1): Goddess of Light

While spouting alarming facts, Ines remained calm and collected, like nothing was beyond Her prediction. Aztimor, on the other hand, looked aggravated. Worried about Her master’s safety, She seemed ready to move the Underworld over to knock open the door to the Divine Realm of Sun.

Ines stopped Her. “Don’t do anything reckless. He wouldn’t have entered the Divine Realm of Sun without confidence.”

“Aren’t you worried?” Aztimor frowned. She was just as convinced that Wayne could defeat Kaleb. Kaleb wasn’t his match, whether in terms of life essence or knowledge reserve. Siluk’s involvement wouldn’t change anything.

However, Kaleb and Siluk had known each other for a long time, and they had spent the last hundred years working on their combo. No one knew what it was, only that Sun and Moonlight were confident enough to consider it a trump card that would help them survive the Final Judgment.

Under the circumstances, Aztimor wasn’t sure if Wayne could make it.

“There’s nothing to worry about.” Ines shook Her head. “He’s so wicked that whatever I can think of, he can, too. Rather than worrying over his safety, our time would be better served worrying about how we should wrap things up. If Kaleb and Siluk hole up in their Divine Realms after being defeated, it’ll be difficult to target them next time.”

She shook Her head. It would be much easier if Wayne corrupted them both, but he just had to reason with them.

If the goddesses would listen to reason, the Life Alliance wouldn’t have disbanded, and they wouldn’t each be hiding their own plans.

Still, the fact that Wayne was a man of principles made Her like him better.

“What are you planning?” Aztimor asked with displeasure. “Just stand here and do nothing?”

The wench got on Her nerves. She was blind to have ever called Her sister.

“Although I don’t have the coordinates of the Divine Realm of Moonlight, I know its rough location. If Siluk isn’t home, and two goddesses visit at the same time, even moving their Divine Realms next door, what do you think Siluk would do?”

Aztimor made a face, cursing at the wicked woman under Her breath. The master was too good for Her.

“What do you know? He likes them wicked. If I weren’t wicked, he wouldn’t like me!” Ines huffed. Before vanishing, She tossed Aztimor a star map so that they could look for the Divine Realm of Moonlight together.

Since they had already made an enemy of Kaleb, they should antagonize both thoroughly. Today, they would subdue Kaleb and Siluk.

Rumble!!

The bottom three levels of the Divine Realm of Sun were in chaos. The tremendous power also surged upward and shook the Trove of Wisdom, the fourth level. Even the Court of Judgment, far away on the seventh level, could feel the repercussions.

The two subordinate gods attempted to keep the shaking Divine Realm stable. Because they had been banished by their own goddess for their safety, they could not break in, nor could they use their Authorities as subordinate gods.

Even now, Kaleb refused to let a third party intervene.

The red burning sea of lava roiled. Kaleb teleported to the surface of the sea, panting, radiating shimmering golden light from Her body. Her golden eyes saw the quickly approaching shadows below. She raised Her hands and pushed them down hard.

Vague projections of divine soldiers who were tall enough to hit the sky moved. Light beams shot out and knocked the shadows into the sea of lava, trapping them there.

Kaleb had used almost every trick up Her sleeve. She had no other options to turn the tide save for killing moves that would ensure mutual destruction.

She could not defeat Wayne. At best, She could suppress him with the Authority of the Divine Realm, but as the battle progressed, Wayne seemed to be growing stronger, adapting to the changing environment with incredible speed.

Her defeat was imminent. There was no point in dragging things out.

She looked down and then around at the Divine Realm. She didn’t want mutual destruction. After a ponderous moment with furrowed brows, She scattered the projections with a wave.

The Divine Armory returned to the Palace of Dawn, and She dismissed Her sun elf form. She wordlessly hovered in the air.

“So hot!” Wayne emerged from the crimson sea and marveled, “As expected of my goddess. You’re so passionate that I’m melting for you.”

Kaleb pulled a long face, displeased with Her defeat.

“Why aren’t you saying anything, Goddess? Are you ready to admit defeat?”

“That round doesn’t count. I wasn’t ready. We’ll have another game someday. We’ll fight until I win.”

“Kaleb, we agreed to honor the bet. Whoever goes back on their word would be a dog.”

“What’s the difference between becoming your dog after honoring the bet and becoming a dog because I deny the bet?”

“There is a difference. You’ll be willing in the first case, and unwilling in the second case.” Wayne took a step forward, his expression serious. “Just look at Corte, and you’ll know. The willing ones will be treated well, while the passive, unwilling ones... I’ll make them willing so that they’ll enjoy my care.”

In other words, She should give up on resisting so that She would receive more lenient treatment.

Life was hard, Kaleb thought with a sigh.

After venting Her grievances, Kaleb still had much to complain about. Who would’ve thought that She would lose even in Her Divine Realm? Shouldn’t victory be guaranteed? What happened?

She stared at Wayne coolly. She didn’t dislike him—She liked him a lot, actually. Fire elements did not lie to fire elements. It wouldn’t be embarrassing to serve him as a subordinate.

“I remember you saying that I have to listen to you until after the Final Judgment, right?”

“Right.” Wayne nodded. Then he added, “Don’t worry. I do have some principles. I won’t make a goddess do something against Her principles for my own selfish desires.”

“That’s not important...” Kaleb waved at him. “If it’s only until the Final Judgment, once I regain my freedom, you won’t continue to interfere with me, will you?”

“I won’t!”

“I’m good with that.” Kaleb spread Her hands. “I’m willing to listen to you, but remember, I will not listen to anyone else. Ines has no right to order me around, or I’ll walk immediately.”

Wayne nodded with a smile. He reached out to give Her a hug. When She rolled Her eyes at him, he took Her hand to kiss Her fingertips instead.

“That I can win your approval is an honor for—”

“I object!!”

A pretty voice roared from the sky, interrupting Wayne’s simping remark. Kaleb had been enjoying Herself, so when someone interrupted Her enjoyment, She looked up at the sky irritably.

Wayne followed Her gaze and grumbled, “This is a sacred union of two talented people. Who gave you, a goddess no one loves, the right to intervene?”

He got a clear look at the newcomer—Siluk, the Goddess of Moonlight!

She stepped on air, dressed in a silver holy robe that appeared to have been conjured with moonlight itself. The fabric swayed in the wind, emitting a soft, cool glow that pulsed in tandem with Her long, platinum blonde hair.

Siluk was more stunning than Holy Maiden Galen, with cold, noble silver eyes and a fair, flawless face, Her complexion fine like the highest quality white jade. While mellow, there was also an untouchable divinity and purity to Her.

As Her alluring figure came down, silver strands of hair brushed past Her perfect face. Her every step seemed like an elegant dance, ethereal and aloof in an otherworldly way. Paired with the faintly glowing bands condensed from moonlight, Her lonesome figure appeared dignified with a hint of inviolable divinity.

She looked cold, not passionate at all.

Wayne leaned into Kaleb and said, “Comparison breeds superiority. My goddess, you seem even more attractive after Her appearance.”

“Don’t speak nonsense.” Kaleb waved at him with a snort. “Siluk isn’t that much worse than me. It’s only because of the attraction between fire elements that you find me more attractive than Her.”

“No, even without fire elements, you’d still be the most radiant goddess in my eyes,” Wayne praised.

That amused Kaleb further. Seeing the icy look on Siluk’s face, She cleared Her throat and said, “Why did you come, Siluk? We agreed that you wouldn’t intervene, that you would let me defeat Wayne with my own power. Why did you interrupt us?”

“Did you defeat him?” Siluk said darkly.

“Still, you should honor your promise!” Kaleb shrugged. She patted Wayne on the shoulder and tried to put Her arm around his shoulder, but it was an uncomfortable fit since She was half a head shorter.

Wayne willingly lowered himself by a head so that Kaleb’s arm could rest on him comfortably. She shot him an approving look.

Receiving the compliment, Wayne blushed appropriately and pretended to be honored. He would be a simp, even if there was nothing to simp after.

His simping bore fruit.

Kaleb tightened Her arm around his shoulders, resting much of Her bosom against his shoulders without concern. “I think he’s pretty nice, Siluk. I see no issue in him save for the dark stain called Ines on his track record. Rather than the two of us working ourselves to exhaustion, wouldn’t it be better to help him conquer the other goddesses so that we can survive the Final Judgment together?”

Just because he frames it differently, you think you aren’t serving him as a lapdog? You’re even trying to talk me into joining you in the doghouse!

Wake up! He’s exploiting your vanity!

Siluk’s face darkened further. “Use your brain, Kaleb,” She said in exasperation. “No, please don’t use your brain. We’ve known each other for so long, so you know I’ll never lie to you. This bastard is up to no good. He’s only after your knowledge. Once you lose your value, he’ll abandon you.”

“Oh, no. I trust my instinct. Fire elements won’t lie to me.” Kaleb shook Her head and earnestly tried to convince Siluk instead. “We’ve known each other for a long time, Siluk. It’s always I who believes in you rather than the other way around. Won’t you trust me this once?”

“What should I trust?” Siluk scoffed. “Your basic brain?”

“My instinct,” Kaleb said solemnly. “Just like how, the first time I met you, my instinct told me that you were a good woman I could trust. I’ve believed you ever since, and I’ve never objected to your plan. We’ve worked together and overcome the War of Faiths.”

“Today, just like that day, my instinct is telling me that we can trust Wayne, that he’ll do right by me!”

“...”

Siluk had no words. When they first met, they had both been weak. Kaleb had recklessly approached Her and offered Her hand, asking to be friends.

Out of caution, Siluk had ignored Kaleb and even plotted against Kaleb a few times. Then, Kaleb’s earnestness won Siluk over, and Sun and Moonlight had been BFFs ever since, supporting each other to this day.

She couldn’t come up with any comebacks for Kaleb’s argument. With a sigh, She said, “He may do right by you, but he will not do the same for me. Just open your eyes and look at his attitude, and you’ll see what I’m talking about.”

Kaleb turned to Wayne and blinked. “His attitude is fine!”

“Only to you. He doesn’t even see me.”

“That’s because you’re in my heart.”

“That’s because you’re in his heart.”

Wayne and Kaleb said at the same time, then looked at each other. Surprised by their commonality, they took a further liking to each other.

You’re wonderful! x2
