Chapter 537 (2): I’ve Been Upholding Justice My Whole Life. What’s Wrong With Enjoying Life a Little?

  • Next Chapter

That night, Wayne staggered out of the Temple of Darkness.

(?′ω`?)

Dazed, he got lost and found himself at the Temple of Death, caught by Aztimor.

With Her newly acquired Authority, the Goddess of Death overpowered Wayne and pinned him to a wall to have Her way with him. He only escaped right before the final base, preventing Ines from meeting the tragic fate of being cheated on.

That would be the next world-famous painting, The Goddess of Darkness, Newly Married: Goddess of Death.

It was only natural that he let Her pin him to a wall. Since the Goddess of Death had been forced to become his vassal, Wayne would agree to whatever unreasonable demands She made. It was only right that he escaped at the last second. Wayne had become the God of Nature, but that didn’t mean he should put a green cap on Ines.

He still owed Ines a proper honeymoon. He had to keep himself pure for Darkness!

Londan.

Wayne had a woman on each arm.

The new Divine Realm was nice, but he had always preferred Londan, the city that had been polluted by industrial smog. Coming back to the city was like coming home.

“Hm... Smells good!”

Wayne buried his nose in Vichy’s hair and inhaled deeply, so deeply that the knight’s face became flushed. After breathing in the black-haired woman’s scent, he turned around to do the same with the silver-haired woman.

Oh, no. It smells like a card addict!

Darienne swatted Wayne’s head away derisively, displeased that he would bring Vichy to a date with her. Didn’t he know that the two of them didn’t get along?

Wayne looked up at the night sky, his brows furrowed. The past few days, his brain had been going on overdrive. If it were anyone other than him, who had white foam in his head, their brain would be boiling.

“What’s wrong? You look tired.”

Darienne had obviously misunderstood. She pressed Wayne’s head back to her shoulder, allowing him to take a couple more breaths.

Just this time, she thought. If you want more of what you shouldn’t even dream of having, you’ll have to win against me in cards.

“I am. The Goddess of Darkness has milked me dry...”

“...”

“Be serious!” Darienne scoffed.

“Alright. I’m thinking: I already have a trio of magical girls and a trio of luxury cars... Let’s say I also have a trio of secretaries. Now, I just need one knight to complete the trio of knights.”

Wayne rambled on and on about nonsensical things. He had already set his eyes on one knight. It was his first love from August twentieth on Dragonheart Island, Valkyrie, the former member of the Order of Sun. She had met Wayne earlier than Darienne and Vichy.

The difficulty level of winning over the knight was high, which was at odds with the tradition of giving themselves away in the Church of Sun. Wayne would call her the saving grace of the church.

Darienne was speechless. “If you don’t want to say it, fine. But you just have to be annoying about it.”

Ever since they had had a naked heart-to-heart, Darienne had become much more well-behaved. She started caring about her image, and even when she played cards—actually, putting aside her behavior at the card table, she had become a well-mannered, dignified, aloof woman who kept others at arm’s length, increasingly resembling Vichy.

At the same time, the two knights had gotten into more and more conflicts.

Splat, splat!

In the shadows, a drenched figure emerged. Ignoring the knights, he bowed and said, “Master, something has been unusual about the River Thames lately. There seems to be something evil lurking downstream. I cannot tell the truth, so I came for your advice.”

It was Bo, Wayne’s second vengeful spirit and an unlucky Londan cop who had acquired permanent residency at the bottom of the River Thames.

“Downstream?” Wayne tightened his arms to stop the two knights from breaking free, his tone disbelieving. “Londan is where the river goes into the ocean. Where’s downstream? Wouldn’t that be the ocean?”

Bo nodded. It was the ocean.

“Um, you’ve got impressive reach...”

Wayne had to praise him. Bo was the biggest freak among his vengeful spirits. He was loyal to his master and justice, unlike Do and the Holy Maiden candidates who sought fun and thrills above all else.

In addition to keeping his girlfriend company, Bo rarely stopped to rest. He was either upholding justice or on his way to upholding it. In his words, he was already a dead man, and he had had enough rest before his death.

Besides, if he stopped for a break, there would be others who met an unjust death as he had. Preventing tragedies was infinitely more meaningful to him than resting.

With such character, it was a shame that he hadn’t joined the Church of Darkness.

“What’s going on downstream that even you can’t take care of it?”

Wayne let go of the two knights. Since he had time, he decided to see for himself. If he was lucky, perhaps he would unearth an unlucky soul that had fallen during the War of Faiths. If it was a goddess, even better.

It was shameful to admit that the Book of Greed preferred goddesses.

Bo perked up. He knew it. His master only looked undependable. When something went wrong and evil arose, his master would always lead the charge. Such things had happened numerous times. Bo had always admired Wayne for his pursuit of justice. As for how he spent his days holding women...

Master’s been upholding justice his whole life. What’s wrong with enjoying life a little?

“The thing is...”

“No rush. Tell me on the way.”

Wayne raised his eyebrow at the two knights, asking them if they would like to head out with him. Vichy wanted to follow and act as his bodyguard, but Darienne stopped her. She could tell from Wayne’s excitement that he was going to bully the weak tonight.

If they followed, they would only be background props, serving little purpose.

When he realized that Darienne and Vichy weren't following him, Wayne messaged them and told them to head back. He would seek them out later that night to practice riding technique with them. They would figure out who was the most powerful chosen knight then.

On their way, Bo talked about what was wrong with the downstream of the River Thames. It was obvious that Wayne wasn’t paying attention. He blew a whistle, summoning Do from who knew where she had gone to have fun.

Clack!

Wayne took off one of Bo’s arms and tossed it. Do stirred the mist, lunging at the broken arm and catching it mid-air. Then she skipped her way back to Wayne.

Again.

Wayne satisfied her readily, tossing Bo’s arm once more. Although it seemed like an absurd version of catch, it would be normal when a water spirit, an undead dog, the mist, and a great demon lord of Hell were involved.

Bo stared at his empty sleeve in resignation. Rather than complaining, he said matter-of-factly, “Master, that’s what happened. What do you think?”

“Do, catch!”

“Woof!”

“...”

Bo covered his face with his hands. He could tell that Wayne had not heard a word out of his mouth.

The three inhuman beings started and stopped as they journeyed through the mist and followed the river to its estuary. The harbor grew distant. The quiet deep ocean was like a giant prostrate beast lurking on the horizon, about to swallow the world whole with its darkness.

Wayne grew serious. Returning Bo’s arm, he looked at the complex maze of chaotic space in front of him, his eyes lighting up with joy. “No wonder you cannot see the truth with our power, Bo. This is a formidable foe you cannot take on.”

Bo didn’t understand. He looked ahead with his super vision, but found nothing. He knew something was wrong, yet couldn’t see anything.

“Stay here, you two. I’ll have a look. I’ll be right back.”

Wayne made the order before treading on waves. His form became blurry before vanishing into the spatial turbulence.

Vast thoughts radiated from him, rubbing and turning the chaotic spatial passage pale like tentacles. The wrong directions and the dead ends were eliminated one by one. Then he found a vast, greenish-grey world brimming with Life and Death.

“Elian, I finally found you!” Wayne murmured. White foam flooded out from under his feet, the pale ocean turning everything into his shape indiscriminately.

Rip!

Paleness took over a big part of the greenish grey world. A massive eyeball opened up in the sky and looked down at the world, radiating whispers that would induce insanity.

At a place that resembled a soldier factory, the vassal creatures Elian had created attacked each other like they had suddenly gone mad. Most of them possessed demigod-level power, and when they went berserk together, the collective destructive power was terrifying.

The large eyeball scanned the premises and peeked at the structure and layout inside the factory, soon locking onto its core—it was a diamond-shaped crystal!

It was the Law of the Horseman of War.

A tentacle reached out from the ground and captured the crystal, swallowing it. It met no resistance in the process.

Wayne slowly turned around, looking at the grey knight ten thousand meters away. The Death energy was shielding her from the restriction of the pale ocean. “My apologies, Elian. I drove you out of the Divine Realm of Nature, and now, I tore down your dog house.”

He had always had a way with insults, this time included. “To make it up to you,” he said flippantly, “I could provide you with a new dog house. What say you? Would you come with me and turn to the bright side as my dog?”

Elian’s face darkened. The scythe of Death manifested halfway, one step away from the true form of the Horseman of Death.

“Neither of us can use our full power in this world...” Wayne waved and opened the passageway to the New Divine Realm. “Come. Let us fight in your Divine Realm of Nature. This will be our third battle. This time, a victor will be determined.”

Not only the victor but also the survivor would be determined!
