Myths Reawakened
Chapter 538 (1): Descent of the Horseman of War.
Wayne eyed Elian sinisterly. The Divine Realm had become a changed place. The former Goddess of Nature might not know. He wanted to give Her a surprise.
Elian was a combination of the Goddess of Nature and the Death of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse at the moment, Her class change progressing halfway. She retained the Authority of the Divine Realm of Nature, so when She entered the new Divine Realm, Her power would also be enhanced.
However, Wayne had stolen part of the Authority, and Elian had been gradually transforming out of the concept of Nature. The buff She received would be lesser than what Ines and the other goddesses had received.
Weighing the pros and cons, Wayne concluded that the slight enhancement wouldn’t do much. Elian was welcome to have it. As soon as She entered the Divine Realm, he would shut the door and let the dogs out.
The leader of the pack, Wayne, wouldn’t even have to do anything. The five goddesses together would be more than enough to put Elian on Her knees. She would be dragged away and made a sex slave to the five goddesses.
Wayne wouldn’t need that. He would just go along for the ride once in a while when Ines was using Elian. That would make Elian a slave with the impressive feat of serving six masters at once.
Moreover, the new Divine Realm’s dramatic transformation lay not only in the integration of Laws, but also in a more fundamental essence. With the pale ocean as the foundation, the Divine Realm was able to be born anew! It wouldn’t be so easy for Elian to flee like She had done the two previous times...
Since the trap would only work once and not another time, Wayne had to get Elian one way or another. He would not tolerate defeat in this battle. Otherwise, he would swear off sex, gambling, and addiction from now on!
“Kekekeke—”
Wayne, who swore to save the world, laughed like a heroic figure, his eyes fixed on Elian. In case She didn’t comply, he continued to provoke Her.
Fetching a diamond crystal from the void with a wave, he weighed it in his hand and said, “This must be the Horseman of War. Good. Quite obedient. Let me guess. You’ve been hiding in Londan, in plain sight—no, you’ve been building soldier factories all around the Chosen Land to awaken this slumbering Horseman... haven’t you?”
Wayne’s grin turned wolfish. He popped the crystal into his mouth and munched down like he would a cucumber.
“Elian, my evil thoughts, thank you for reminding me. You’ve answered many of my questions. I’m glad that a deadweight like you is among the enemy’s ranks.”
He swallowed the crystal, bursting out laughing. “You’re the MVP of this battle. In the future, you’ll be named a martyr.”
Elian’s gaze grew vicious. Raising the bizarre-shaped scythe of Death in Her hands, She locked down space with Her vast thoughts and suppressed the pale ocean.
Earth, fire, water, and wind elements gathered. Violent energy tides struck out in the most rudimentary way. Rather than dodging, Wayne braced the tides and charged at Elian. The moment the four elements came in contact with his body, they were absorbed and converted for his own use.
His evolution progressed daily. It was now nigh impossible to hurt Wayne. He was immune to all physical attacks and could absorb all energy attacks. By tracing the origin of information, he could also turn attacks with Laws obsolete. Doing so would be akin to giving away one’s Laws freely.
Moreover, he was terrifyingly adaptable. There was no quantifying his stats. His power transcended numbers.
Clang!
Wayne parried the scythe with one pale, bladed arm. His body liquefied to avoid the grey warhorse’s kick and bite. Like a writhing pale python, he grappled Elian’s body.
Their two heads pressed against each other. With his body wrapped around Hers, Wayne once again tried to corrupt Her.
Where their bodies touched, greenish grey energy erased the white foam and eliminated its vitality, turning it into dripping black sludge. Failing the corruption, Wayne stuck his tongue out and used the pale tentacle-like tongue to lick Elian’s face, leaving a trail of white foam.
“You taste good, my goddess!”
The white foam turned into black sludge immediately, never actually touching Elian’s skin, but...
A toad was repulsive despite not being able to bite.
Elian was repulsed. She growled, unleashing violent Death energy to crash into Wayne’s body, peeling large swathes of black sludge off him. In their third clash, they once again reached an impasse.
Wayne was shameless enough to make the most humiliating attacks he was capable of, targeting Elian’s haughty, regal bearing to maximize the psychic damage. Elian, on the other hand, couldn’t do anything but curse him out.
Wayne, shameless as he was, even blushed and radiated satisfaction when Elian cursed.
“Is there more? Go on. I love to hear it.”
“...”
Elian’s Death energy stilled for a moment. She had once said that She had never met such a shameless man, but She took it back. Wayne was no man, and since he was inhuman, he never had shame to begin with.
Boom!!
Pale shadow and greenish grey shadow collided. Wayne once again wrapped himself around Elian’s curvy figure, his tentacles tightening around the peaks and slithering along the valleys to maximize the humiliation, making Her lose Her rationality in fury.
In essence, Elian was no longer human. With Her decayed innards, Her human appearance was only skin deep. However, She retained the psyche, thought process, and behavior of the Goddess of Nature. To quote Ines, Elian was a domineering woman who was used to being haughty. She was petty.
The explosion of Death energy scattered Wayne’s body. He recombined on the pathway to the Divine Realm. Rather than using his mouth, he stared at his hands in shock and said, “Amazing, my goddess. I didn’t expect such a blast from you.”
Elian’s face twisted with rage. She was so furious that razor-sharp Death energy radiated from Her decayed innards, cutting through Her skin. Like a mannequin made of rotten wood and straws, She rode the grey warhorse in a grey robe of mist. The uncanny valley effect unnerved Wayne.
“That’s creepy...” Wayne said infuriatingly. “Don’t be mad. See? Your fake boobs exploded because you were so angry.”
Boom!!
The grey warhorse slammed into Wayne and knocked him across the passageway to the Divine Realm. Death energy drilled through the plain, leaving a ditch with rising grey mist in its wake. At the starting point of the horse’s trajectory, the portal to the Chosen Land closed in an instant.
The Divine Realm closed up at once.
The horse stopped charging soon. An indescribable might swept across Elian and pushed Her power to a new height.
It was the power of Nature, activated by the Authority of the Divine Realm.
It changed Elian’s form, forcing Death, which had been gaining absolute advantage, to retreat. Her transformation into the Horseman of Death rebounded significantly.
Elian was shocked and alerted. The foreign Divine Realm stunned Her.
The Authority brought great power, but also great insecurity. She looked at the new Divine Realm in terror. Aside from the manifested Laws of Nature, Death’s Underworld lay beneath the land, Storm and Thunder gathered in the Sky, Sun and Moonlight sat in Darkness’s embrace. Rather than a Divine Realm, the place seemed more like an epic world from mythology.
“It’s the realm of Life. It succeeded...”
Elian’s eyes glinted with overpowering envy, which distorted Her face further. Her eyes pulled aside so hard that the skin split and revealed the decayed muscle tissue underneath.
“So, this new Divine Realm is your ultimate goal.” White foam writhed and morphed into Wayne’s body. He raised his hand and summoned lightning to strike the land, then called upon a sweeping gale. Demonstrating the Divine Realm’s power, he taunted, “Horseman of Death, aren’t you going to wail like a proper loser seeing someone else realizing your dream?”
“You?!” Elian looked at Wayne in shock. “Impossible. Your evolution path shouldn’t... I get it now. You’ve devoured those pieces of trash and used their Laws to create this world.”
“Who are you calling trash?!” Wayne hardened his face. “I won’t tolerate such an insult to Ines, Aztimor, Seleucia, or Kaleb!”
A disgruntled scoff came.
Thick clouds parted, and the Storm and Thunder stopped roaring. Following an infinite light that shone down from the sky, five figures emerged up in the air, looking down at Elian.
The five goddesses had been top-tier beauties to begin with. Now, with light as their backdrop, their sacred divine might swept down, brandishing their eternal glory at Elian.
Sometimes, making the right choice was more important than hard work!
“Who told you to get so high up? Who are you trying to impress...”
Wayne grumbled to himself, making a mark on Siluk’s record. Among the vermin, Siluk was the one who was most pretentious. If She was hovering above their leader today, She would boldly step on his face tomorrow. He could not tolerate that. She would get Her just desserts after the War of Faiths.
Seeing the five goddesses, whom She believed had been devoured, Elian made a strange face. Seleucia, especially, compounded Her confusion.
Elian remembered that face. She was Seleucia, who called Herself the Goddess of Sky. Once known as the Manipulator of Weather, She had been taken out by Sett, the Master of Storm and Thunder, for being in Elian’s way. She had instigated the incident.
How are you alive?
Those who should be dead hadn’t died, and those who shouldn’t be alive were alive. Elian didn’t understand the new Divine Realm. Then, realizing something, She turned to Wayne in shock.
Soon, the shock turned into mockery.
“You’re too merciful,” Elian said. “You should’ve corrupted them all and made them your slaves. Then, you would be the only master of the Divine Realms, rather than letting them reap all the benefits while you’re nothing, like now.”
Her expression brimmed with sarcasm. Kindness was a virtue, and She hoped that all Her enemies would have that virtue.
The merciful ones shouldn’t be put in charge of an army, and the honest ones shouldn’t be put in charge of money. What kind of leader would Wayne be if he didn’t understand something that simple?
When Wayne was being shameless, such as when he stole Her Divine Realm, Her faith, and twisted the truth to make Her his evil thoughts, Elian would call him a formidable enemy, one that was difficult to deal with.
Now, though, it seemed that said enemy had a fatal flaw. If he hadn’t luckily received an ancient god’s blessing and gained immortality, he wouldn’t have reached this height.
Still, Elian was envious and resentful. If She had integrated the Life Alliance during the War of Faiths and created a new Divine Realm, thus becoming the Goddess of Life, Elohim would’ve been defeated for sure. She wouldn’t have to wait until the next era. She would be able to reawaken mythology in this era and prophesy the Final Judgment.
“Thank you for the reminder. I’ll consider it. Now, let me give you a piece of advice.” Wayne floated up to the front of the five goddesses. “Rather than worrying about others, you should worry about yourself. I didn’t let you in today to let you walk out alive!”
Elian’s face darkened. Without wasting more breath, She raised Her scythe and said, “You cannot kill me or corrupt me. These weaklings wouldn’t change that. Come at me together. I’ll settle this as the Goddess of Nature.”
“I agree. There’s no place for chivalrous spirit when dealing with an evil that aims to destroy the world.” Wayne waved. Decapitation Operation: Justice from the Sky officially commenced.
Before his hand even fell, Aztimor was already charging with Her scythe of Death, closely followed by Kaleb and Seleucia. Finally, there were Siluk and Ines.
Kaleb and Seleucia weren’t smart, but they were obedient. Ines was used to putting those fake friends of Hers in front of Her, while Siluk often let Her teammates take the lead when She was hesitant. Aztimor, on the other hand, charged out first for a simple reason: Elian was brimming with Death and called Herself Death. It was a slap to Her once ally’s face.
Wayne didn’t make a move. Quietly evaluating their combat power, he concluded that the five goddesses made an epic team. Even if they couldn’t kill Elian, they would be able to exhaust Her thoughts. He only had to clean up the mess then.
Three more Horsemen might show up, so he had to be on guard to avoid getting caught by surprise.
The two scythes of Death collided. From afar, one would see grey mist covering half the sky, the rising pillar of smoke detonating the still air. Incredible killing intent shot out far like a flood.
Rumble—
The vast green plain crumbled in an instant, creating a ravaged wasteland with no signs of life. More than ten square kilometers' worth of landmass had been peeled off.
With the plain as the epicenter, the primitive forest nearby, the distant steep ranges, and the rivers all trembled from the violent quake. Earth whined, and mountains threatened to topple.
Wayne watched the devastation calmly. The new Divine Realm was sturdy. Unless someone could break the pale ocean, the foundation of this world, this space would not crumble. Even the greatest power would at most create a firework.
He drew out of the Divine Realm. In case the other Horsemen utilized this destruction to hit other parts of the Chosen Land, he connected to his replica octopi across the continent, surveilling the entire world for changes.
There were no Horsemen in sight. It was as if Bo had only accidentally stumbled upon Elian’s soldier factory.
Wayne was cautious by nature. Whether it was a coincidence or not, he would take care of it as a conspiracy.
