Naruto: Sovereign of Genjutsu
Chapter 473 - 473: Jogan
SWISH! SWISH!
BANG! BANG! BANG!
"That's it! Excellent use of the Flying Raijin, Boruto!"
Inside Kaguya's dimension, Boruto and Kabuto Yakushi were engaged in a fierce, high-octane battle.
Using the Flying Raijin Jutsu, Boruto repeatedly flashed into existence all around Kabuto. With his lightning-fast Body Flicker technique, countless Boruto clones materialized, swarming and completely surrounding Kabuto.
A massive Rasengan slammed down with heavy force.
WHIRL!
A smirk played on Kabuto's lips as a colossal spirit dragon coiled tightly around his form.
BOOM!
The Rasengan struck the spirit dragon directly, severing it cleanly into two segments, before continuing its charge toward Kabuto himself.
"Very good!"
HUMMM!
Kabuto wove hand seals at blinding speed. Numerous orifices opened across his body, generating a powerful sonic barrier all around him.
BOOM!
The Rasengan slammed into the sonic barrier, the two forces canceling each other out until both completely dissipated into nothingness.
"Kabuto-sensei, you're about to lose to me!" Boruto declared with a confident grin.
After a full year of hellish, agonizing training, he had finally surpassed Kabuto-sensei.
...
"Boruto is amazing..." Standing atop a high peak, Sarada watched the battle unfolding below between Boruto and Kabuto, her eyes shining with stars.
Nearby, the others nodded in agreement.
The entire new generation of Konoha shinobi was present.
Mitsuki remarked, "Sarada, you're incredible too. It's just a shame that your ability can only be used once!"
Recalling what Sarada had told them—that her Mangekyo Sharingan ability across both eyes only possessed a single usage opportunity—he felt a tinge of pity, as he wouldn't be able to see what that ability was in action.
Hearing that made Sarada visibly upset. "Tonbo-sensei is way too cruel! Using that kind of genjutsu on me... knowing full well girls are emotionally sensitive, yet he still pulled off a illusion like that!"
As she spoke, tears nearly welled up in her eyes.
Just one year ago, Tonbo Tobitake had suddenly appeared and cast a genjutsu on her before she even realized it.
Inside the illusion, Boruto—who was fighting alongside her—was brutally tortured, killed, and had his eyes gouged out due to an enemy's ability.
The rest of Konoha's seniors, including past Hokage and every single one of her comrades, lay dead across a smoke-filled battlefield, leaving her entirely alone to stare out at the sea of corpses.
It was an excruciatingly tragic sight.
In that state of absolute despair and helplessness, she finally awakened the ultimate Mangekyo Sharingan among the Uchiha, discovering her unique ability and breaking free from Tonbo-sensei's illusion.
Every time she recalled it, she still felt a surge of indignation.
"Don't tease Sarada. Her ability might very well be the key to the final battle."
Listening to their conversation from the side, Tonbo Tobitake let a subtle smile touch his lips.
He hadn't expected Sarada to awaken a technique of that caliber either.
It truly was the Eye That Reflects the Heart, evolving in the exact direction her subconscious mind desired.
Even if it could only be activated a single time, it could still tilt the scales of battle dramatically in their favor.
His original theory held true: the Eye That Reflects the Heart was indeed remarkably broken.
"Tonbo-sensei, is the enemy we're about to face really that strong? With Boruto's current strength, even legendary figures like Madara Uchiha or Kaguya Otsutsuki wouldn't be his match anymore, right?" Shikadai asked, watching the intense clash below.
With this level of combat output, who could possibly stand as an opponent? Just those people from the prophecies?
Tonbo Tobitake broke into a hearty laugh. "Yes, they are extraordinarily powerful, claiming to possess omniscience and omnipotence. Even this level isn't enough."
Naturally, it wasn't enough—preparations had to continue relentlessly until the war reached its absolute conclusion.
To elevate the strength of Boruto and the new generation, Tonbo utilized an improved version of his neural transmission system daily, continuously feeding them valuable knowledge suited to their needs and helping them digest it rapidly.
He accelerated their power growth exponentially, much like how he had trained his own father back in the day.
This group of youngsters had not disappointed him; every single one of them had now surpassed Madara Uchiha in raw capability.
"Heavenly Thunder Descent!"
RUMBLE!
A catastrophic force roared from Boruto's hands off in the distance.
Dark clouds blanketed the sky as Karma patterns spread across Boruto's body, his right eye transforming into a pristine white ocular sphere.
Through the Karma in his hand, he commanded thunderbolts that seemed entirely alien to the mortal realm.
Down below, Kabuto Yakushi didn't back down either. The severed segments of his spirit dragon healed rapidly, and his entire body radiated a blinding aura.
Dragon God Transformation!
The white dragon transformed into a golden colossus, its head turned directly toward Boruto.
ROAR!
With a deafening roar, both massive attacks collided and neutralized each other simultaneously.
A hurricane-force tempest swept outward, blasting across space from all directions.
The sound of shattering glass echoed through the air—it wasn't glass breaking, but space itself fracturing under the sheer pressure, only to knit back together instantly.
Between the fracturing and healing of space, massive spatial storms erupted, sweeping toward Tonbo Tobitake and the others.
"Incredible..."
"Next up is my turn! I'm not going to lag behind either!"
The others refused to be outdone, their eyes burning with intense enthusiasm.
Although they weren't a match for Boruto, they were still formidable in their own right.
Now seventeen years old, they had reached the prime golden age for a shinobi.
Orochimaru remarked, "Not bad. Boruto can now freely tap into the first stage of Karma's power. Next comes the second stage—paired with the power of his Jogan, he should achieve a massive leap forward."
Much of this specialized training required Orochimaru's direct assistance, as many of these unique biological traits could only be manipulated by him.
"Yes. In a little more time, Boruto will be able to wield his Jogan effortlessly. That power will be the absolute linchpin in defeating the Otsutsuki God," Tonbo Tobitake stated.
The Otsutsuki God would inevitably appear; Tonbo's inner instincts were already picking up on that premonition.
Perhaps it was a unique force brought along when he originally transmigrated to this world—the very foundation that enabled him to grow this strong.
As his physical form evolved, Tonbo's mind seemed to unlock vast reservoirs of mental energy, allowing him to tap into his innate talent for Yin Style with even greater mastery. It felt as though a lingering restraint had been lifted, much like how his son Saitama had removed his physical limiters.
Through his research, Tonbo realized that his incredible comprehension speed back then was driven by this exact mental energy.
It was as if his mind had undergone a process of refinement, granting him an absurd affinity for Yin Style while raising his comprehension across all other ninjutsu disciplines.
However, it seemed to have reached its absolute peak here.
Developing his Yin Style to this point represented his limit; pushing beyond would require the slow accumulation of time and wisdom.
That was no longer a matter of raw talent, but of deep accumulation.
In other words, much like Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju before him, once he pushed his natural talent to its limit, he hit a structural bottleneck where further progress became exceptionally difficult.
That was precisely why he turned his focus toward Boruto and the young generation—using his shoulders as a giant's foundation to elevate them even higher.
Even if their raw comprehension couldn't match his, he would ensure their absolute, tangible combat power reached the required threshold.
What's more, he could use the reverse application of his mind-reading techniques to directly transmit knowledge into these young shinobi.
They were truly standing on the shoulders of a giant.
Perhaps Boruto really could surpass him.
Though, in Tonbo's estimation, Boruto was likely the only one who could truly surpass him.
Even Mitsuki, despite possessing Otsutsuki cells, couldn't reach that height and would serve primarily as top-tier support.
The rest were in a similar position.
In terms of absolute top-tier combat strength, Boruto stood alone, with Sarada and the others providing specialized assistance.
To fully unleash Boruto's Jogan alongside his Otsutsuki power, Tonbo had invested a massive amount of time and effort—ensuring the rest of the squad was equally prepared to fulfill their supporting roles to perfection.
