Not Being a Trainer This Time

Chapter 1282: Changing History

  • Next Chapter

There are quite big differences between the ancient and modern eras of the Pokemon World in some respects.

For example, people here still haven’t completely started seeing Pokemon as friends, family, partners.

Although some people do live together with gentle-natured Pokemon, most of the time it’s still more of a taming relationship.

That is, they tame Pokemon and have them help transport goods, work, start fires, weave cloth, and so on.

And the way people here address Pokemon is also stuck in a very distant past.

They call Pokemon “beasts.”

As for how Naoki knows this…

It’s because the residents’ gazes toward Koraidon were full of fear, and they were whispering among themselves.

“It’s a beast!”

“It looks so scary…”

“Is that human a Demon Beast Tamer?”

“Demon Beast Tamer?” Lono keenly picked up on the term, and she asked with interest, “Is that what people in this place call Pokemon Trainers?”

“That should be it.” Naoki replied.

At this moment they were like a small boat moving across the water’s surface, while the crowd around them was like the river—upon seeing them, everyone immediately retreated to both sides, leaving a path in the middle.

“In this era, humans are still calling Pokemon beasts.” Naoki said.

In fact, it’s not like people only started training Pokemon and fighting alongside them in modern times.

This phenomenon has existed since long, long ago.

And such people were also called Demon Beast Tamers, Aura Guardians; they would often travel the world with Pokemon, and when they encountered humans in need of Helping Hand, they would step in together with their Pokemon to help.

“Beasts… that doesn’t fit the image of Pokemon at all.” Lono muttered under her breath.

“Ah ga-sii.” Koraidon completely agreed.

Naoki: “…”

Seeing the human and the Pokemon acting like this, he twitched the corner of his mouth, thinking to himself that Koraidon’s appearance is nowhere near as cute as it’s acting—there is still a big gap between different Pokemon.

For some Pokemon, calling them “beasts” is actually perfectly fine.

Take Hydreigon, Guzzlord, Eternatus for example.

But to Lono, who’d received modern education since childhood, all Pokemon in the world are partners who can live alongside humans.

After a simple stroll around, the two of them picked a restaurant to have a meal.

The restaurant waiter, seeing that they were esteemed Demon Beast Tamers, immediately became very respectful, which made Naoki a bit uncomfortable.

He patted his pocket, took out a Nugget that Flutter Mane had picked up in the wild that morning, and asked the waiter if he could trade this item for a meal.

The waiter then called over the restaurant’s owner.

The owner was a plump, round man; upon seeing Naoki, he immediately stepped forward and said:

“Honored Demon Beast Tamer, as long as you’re willing to help our humble shop with one favor, we can prepare a lavish dinner for you free of charge!”

Naoki raised an eyebrow. “Oh?”

The owner then gave a wry smile and said, “Here’s the situation: not long ago, a terrifying beast broke into our shop’s garbage incineration room. It’s occupied that place and won’t let anyone approach; anyone who tries gets attacked by it, so a lot of our leftover food can’t be properly disposed of in time…”

“Take me to see it.” Naoki’s interest was instantly piqued.

Led by the owner, they quickly arrived in a narrow alley behind the restaurant. At the end of the alley stood a brick-built room, and a towering stench was billowing out from it.

“That’s the place.” The owner pointed and said.

Naoki covered his nose and mouth, stepped forward to look, and to his surprise saw, in the trash pile, a Pokemon whose appearance was practically indistinguishable from a heap of garbage.

That is… Garbodor?

Seeing someone approach, the Garbodor thought they had come to fight it over food, and hurriedly released a cloud of purple smoke from its body.

The smoke quickly began spreading through the dark, damp alley.

Mew and Teddiursa immediately covered their noses and mouths, both looking utterly disgusted.

The owner exclaimed in terror, “Careful, that smoke is Poison!”

“Mew, stop it!” Naoki said.

“Miu!”

A sharp blue light flashed in Mew’s eyes, and an immense Psychic force erupted from its body, sweeping up the purple smoke and compressing it inward.

Immediately after, Garbodor’s body was seized by Telekinesis and lifted out of the garbage heap, and it instantly began panicking.

“Do you still have leftover food and other trash?” Naoki turned and asked.

The owner froze for a moment, then hurriedly nodded. “Yes, yes we do!”

“Go bring it over.” Naoki said.

Though he didn’t understand why, the owner still quickly did as told.

Among ordinary people, Demon Beast Tamers held very high status.

Once the owner left, Lono watched Naoki’s actions and immediately guessed his plan.

“You’re thinking…”

Naoki nodded. “A Pokemon like Garbodor wouldn’t attack people at random. It most likely mistook the owner and others for enemies trying to steal its food, which is why it’s been guarding this place and refusing to let anyone approach.”

To Garbodor, the trash heap is its own exclusive Five-star Restaurant.

Naoki stepped forward, attempting to use the Power of Viridian to communicate with Garbodor.

“Garbodor, please calm down. We mean no harm, and we won’t fight you over these delicacies.”

Feeling the warm power flowing into its body, the Garbodor really did settle down.

It lowered its head and looked over in confusion.

Naoki gestured for Mew to put it down, and just then, the owner came running back with a waiter in tow.
