Chapter 379: Chapter 379: Crisis, Origin Devourer!
At that moment, the voice of Observer No. 3 echoed through the entire Shattered Canyon, hollow and ice-cold, reaching every ear.
“This battle has already confirmed both sides’ strength. The Arbiter’s true form will arrive in 72 hours.”
“During this period, no further casualties are allowed. Anyone who violates this will face permanent pursuit by the Ancient Tribunal and sanctions at the level of the Rules.”
As he finished speaking, a silver-gray barrier of rules descended from the sky, landing right in the center of the battlefield.
The barrier cut off all exchange of energy between the two sides and completely sealed any chance for the three Vanguard Demigods to act again.
This was the Arbiter’s Ban issued by the Ancient Tribunal—no one dared to disobey.
The Soul-Devourer looked at the barrier before him and let out a metal-scraping, furious scream.
His black, vortex-like body churned violently, and his eyes were filled with unwillingness.
Victory had been within reach, only to be abruptly stopped by the Ancient Tribunal.
In a voice thick with venomous curses, the Soul-Devourer’s shout rang across the whole canyon:
“The Ancient Tribunal actually intervenes! The true Origin Devourer has already sensed the changes here. He will descend within 24 hours. You will all die!”
As soon as the words fell, a massive black space rift opened before the Soul-Devourer.
Glancing at the Space-Ripper, the Soul-Devourer and his two companions turned and stepped into the rift.
The three Demigod Vanguards vanished completely from the skies above Shattered Canyon.
Only the wreckage below and the lingering, violent energy of the rules remained in the air.
The tension finally broke, and Kane could hold on no longer.
His old wound flared up again, and he coughed up large mouthfuls of golden divine blood.
The Demigod-stage energy surging around him plummeted from 35% to just 30%, slipping completely out of control.
Kane collapsed forward and fell into a deep coma.
Logan immediately caught him before he hit the ground.
He spread his soul perception to its fullest, scanning Kane’s condition, but the result left his face pale and grim.
Kane had launched full-power attacks eighteen times in a row, draining 18% of his life force.
On top of that, his old wounds had turned against him. His core was nearly exhausted, and his life force was almost completely gone.
Violet take Nel and Bobbi, rushed frantically from the front of the United Legion.
Seeing the unconscious Kane and Logan, whose breathing was uneven, golden vertical pupils in her eyes filled with tears.
Her voice trembled as she asked, “Master! Lord Kane! How is he?”
Logan shook his head without saying a word.
Still gripping the Staff of Creation, he poured out a steady stream of creation-rule energy into Kane’s body.
But this time, the creation-rule could only barely hold Kane’s energy steady; it couldn’t reverse the exhaustion of his core.
Logan’s own energy dipped further due to the continuous drain.
Now, the five-spiral DNA in his body spun at full speed, and all his Divine Rule energy poured out without reserve.
Five strands of rule-light circled around him, eventually gathering entirely into his right hand.
The emerald creation-rule solidified into the tangible Staff of Creation, its shaft glowing with warm, life-like radiance.
Logan took a deep breath, grasped the Staff of Creation, and slowly pierced the black scar on Kane’s chest.
Instantly, the emerald creation-rule split into countless fine threads.
These threads spread through Kane’s broken energy meridians, slowly filling in the holes in his core that had been eroded by the Devouring Rule.
Thanks to the Staff of Creation, Logan managed to temporarily simulate a Demigod-stage energy cycle, replacing Kane’s collapsing energy system.
With the burden of energy consumption gone, Kane’s condition stopped deteriorating. His falling energy levels finally stabilized.
Slowly, Kane’s once ice-cold body began to warm up a little under the nourishment of the creation-rule.
Looking at Logan now, his forehead was covered in sweat and bulging veins.
For a Legend-stage cultivator like him to build a life circuit for a Demigod-stage powerhouse had long exceeded his limits.
He held on only by sheer willpower.
Now that Kane’s injury had stabilized, Logan’s tense mind finally relaxed.
But the five-colored lights swirling around him were flickering badly, showing clear gaps and instability.
The star marks on Logan’s back began to dim as well, dropping to the 66-star mark stage along with his energy.
Suddenly, a trickle of blood escaped the corner of Logan’s mouth. He completely severed the energy link with Kane, staggered back two steps, and barely managed to steady himself.
Logan looked at Kane, whose breathing had now stabilized on the stone platform. His voice was heavy with exhaustion as he said, “It’s done. Finally, I saved you.”
The moment the words left his lips, Kane’s fingers twitched slightly on the stone platform.
His breath, which had nearly stopped, became steady and strong again. The Demigod-stage energy around him slowly began to rise.
Half an hour later, Kane’s gray eyes fluttered open.
First, he looked blankly at the cold jade dome above him. Then, he immediately sensed the green life circuit circulating inside his body.
The warm power of the creation-rule was endlessly replenishing his exhausted core, holding his collapsing frame together.
He sat up and looked down at the wound on his chest. The black devouring patterns had stopped spreading.
Kane turned his head to look at Logan, who was leaning against the edge of the cold jade bed.
The sight made his pupils contract sharply.
Logan’s energy had dropped all the way to 66 stars.
The cracks on his five-spiral DNA were visible to the naked eye, and as the five-colored lights swirled around him, they were filled with an undeniable exhaustion and weakness.
Kane stayed silent for a long time, his expression shifting between dark and a weird, almost smiling look.
He had lived for thousands of years, seen countless betrayals, and witnessed countless faces calculating for their own profit.
But no one had ever been willing to sacrifice their own core just to extend the life of an enemy Demigod they had fought for a thousand years.
And no one had ever stood by his side, facing life and death together, when he was on the verge of dying.
Thinking of this, a look of determination appeared in Kane’s eyes.
His voice, low and hoarse, filled with complex emotions he could no longer hide, asked: “Why have you saved me to such an extreme extent? Even sacrificing your own foundation? This kindness far exceeds our alliance agreement. Now, I owe you my life.”
Logan looked up. Blood stained his lips, but his eyes remained calm and firm.
He looked at Kane and said in a tone devoid of any emotion: “We are comrades. We are one with the ’One Life, One Death’ bond. If you die, I cannot stop the Origin Devourer. Winning while alive is all that matters.”
Kane’s gray eyes stared fixedly at Logan.
He looked for a full ten seconds.
After ten seconds, Kane said solemnly: “From now on, my blade will only cut down enemies for you. One Life, One Death.”
Logan looked at the hand Kane extended and smiled: “Get lost. I only have ’One Life, One Death’ with my women.”
…
Saying this, Logan pushed Kane back into his seat, indicating that he should meditate first to stabilize the temporary life circuit in his body.
At that moment, Nyarlathotep’s voice suddenly rang out in the Soul Sea, more exhausted than ever before: “Boy, don’t expect us to fight for you again in the form of puppets.”
“Space-Ripper’s dimensional cutting has completely shredded the rule cores of our three physical bodies. And now, you have dropped to 66 stars… Ah!”
“Now, we only have our original consciousness dwelling inside your Soul Sea. We can only help you resist attacks on the soul level. We can no longer take a single step out to fight for you.”
Then, Yepera’s mental wave followed, tinged with helplessness: “The three physical bodies you gave us were merely temporary formations of Ancestral Spirits power, not true immortal bodies.”
“To escape you last time, we took a direct hit from the space cracks. That temporary body fell apart instantly. To rebuild it, we’ll have to wait until you recover to the 81 stars stage.”
Logan listened to the advice from the three Demigod spiritual bodies and sent his consciousness to the Black Dragon. Inside Logan’s Soul Sea, the Black Dragon’s roar was still loud, but the weakness underneath was obvious. It was so tired it didn’t even want to talk anymore.
Seeing this state, Logan understood what was happening. He sighed. “Looks like I need to regain my strength fast as well.”
Just then, Violet walked into the secret room. She held a specially made obsidian tray with both hands, and on it sat a black crystal about the size of a fist.
Dark purple Devouring Rule patterns flowed across the black crystal’s surface, and small black vortices rotated slowly inside, radiating a chilling aura.
Violet stepped up to Logan, knelt on one knee, and held the tray above her head. “Master, this is the rule core of a Devourer found by the reconnaissance team at the edge of the battlefield.”
Logan took the black crystal. The moment his fingertips touched its surface, he felt a cold, devouring force trying to drill straight into his body.
In a split second, five-colored light erupted from Logan’s fingertips, instantly pushing the devouring force back.
Logan carried the core to a stone table in the center of the room and sat down. Five rule-lights lit up in his palm at once, scanning the core’s internal structure from different angles.
Soon, inside Logan’s Soul Sea, the awareness of the three Demigod spiritual bodies was disturbed by the shift in energy.
Nyarlathotep’s soul wave arrived first, carrying a serious tone. “Logan, there is the original essence of the Origin Devourer inside this Devouring Rule core. It can track his specific location.”
“But it’s a two-way tracking mechanism. Once you activate it, your own position will be completely exposed to his perception.”
Yepera’s voice followed immediately, filled with a clear warning. “Don’t activate them. The Origin Devourer has already broken through to the Super-Demigod stage. You are only at 66 stars now. Activating this core is like a firefly trying to shine against the sun. The risk is enormous.”
“He can launch Soul attacks directly through the original essence link. Even with the soul protection from us, you would still suffer heavy damage.”
