Chapter 407: Chapter 407: The Lich King Gets Fooled by a Little Girl
He bit down hard, his right hand gripping the edge of the operating table. The metal felt so hard that he left five clear fingerprint marks in it. “Keep going,” he gritted out. “Violet is holding the line outside. She can handle it!”
Just then, Gray Bone’s Death Rules traveled along the silk threads and entered Logan’s veins, suppressing the violent Gene Devour chains.
Seeing Logan’s veins bulge from the strain, Gray Bone spoke in a cold, hard voice: “Hang in there.”
Blood mixed with saliva trickled from Logan’s crushed teeth, but he didn’t say a word. He just signaled for the two of them to continue.
Next, Clea adjusted her strategy, switching to an intermittent removal method.
For every 10% of the infected area she peeled away, she immediately injected pure source energy from the Rules of Creation to fill the gap. This prevented the golden marks from spreading further.
Meanwhile, Gray Bone coordinated with her, sending Death Rules through Logan’s veins to suppress the chaotic Gene Devour chains. This kept them from biting back and destroying the creation gene chains, which would have made the cracks much worse.
Inside the Time Rift, time flowed five times faster than in the outside world. Days and nights flashed by like a spinning carousel.
By the third day of internal time, the golden scar on Logan’s left arm had shrunk by 10%.
The Truth Marks originally trapped in the nine-spiral core were cleared by one-tenth.
Logan looked inside his own nine-spiral DNA and saw that the once-stable cracks had briefly shaken due to the recent peeling. Now, they had settled back down to a relatively safe, stable line.
Suddenly, a cold, genderless voice echoed in his mind for just a split second, fast enough to feel like an illusion: “Too ambitious.”
That voice… it was The Observer No. 1 sending a remote interference signal!
Logan had just breathed a sigh of relief when his soul contract suddenly shook violently.
Then, Violet’s urgent message came through the contract, her heavy breathing audible in the background: “Master, three Demigod-stage Vanguard Arbiters just attacked the southeast defense line. Lord Moragas is forced to counter-attack, and the pressure on the two restricted zones has spiked!”
At the same moment, in the No. 53 Restricted Zone.
Violet stood in the center of the Temple of Destruction. Her left hand unconsciously rubbed the purple-and-gold Alternate Ruler mark on her forehead.
She gripped the Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor tightly. The cracks on the horn’s body had spread all the way to the base, and the golden totem patterns were so dim they were nearly invisible. The heat was blistering.
Her palm, which had been holding the horn the whole time, was covered in a layer of small, dense blisters.
She had sensed the three Demigod-stage auras sweep over the restricted zone the moment they arrived.
Ten kilometers to the southeast, the fluctuations of the lightning, Frost, and the earth rules were clear as day. Each one bore the special silver-gray mark of the Ancient Tribunal. These were the Vanguard Arbiters sent specifically to execute a purge.
Violet immediately sent a distress signal to Logan via her soul contract.
But Logan was inside the Time Rift. The difference in time flow caused a signal delay. Her messages sank into the void like a stone into the sea, receiving no reply.
Soon, Moragas’s voice came through the Eternal Night City’s soul link, filled with obvious anxiety. Behind him, the roaring of three hundred undead bone dragons could be heard.
“Violet, contact Logan immediately!”
“We have a mutual aid pact with Logan. If we die, he dies too!”
Saying this, Moragas turned to look at the distant sky. His voice turned cold: “Three Demigod vanguards are coming. I have to go hold them off. You need to get Logan out of that state quickly!”
His tone held no hint of underestimating the enemy. Only the anxiety of being bound by a soul contract lingered, even making his orders to command the bone dragons tremble.
Violet’s fingers paused for a moment. She quickly sent a reply to Moragas: “Hold on. I will activate the Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor to support you. Just hold out for thirty seconds.”
She glanced sideways at the Sky-Shattering Chieftain guarding her side and gave him a subtle signal to stay quiet.
Next, the mark she formed with her fingertips wasn’t for activating the horn. It was the reverse transmission mark of the soul master-servant contract.
The Sky-Shattering Chieftain understood instantly. He tensed his face and stood by, pretending to adjust the energy of the defense array.
Violet raised the Staff of Creation. Green energy from the Rules of Creation surged from its shaft, lighting up three layers of defense arrays around the temple. A golden shield spread out from the temple’s peak, covering the entire outer perimeter of the restricted zone.
Her grip on the Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor grew tighter and tighter.
The horn’s surface temperature had risen to 800 degrees. The heat was so intense that all the blisters on her palm had burst.
Golden blood flowed down the cracks in the horn, seeping into the carvings.
Violet could feel that the energy stored within the horn was running low. If she used it now, it might not last long enough to reach the time she had promised Logan.
But Logan was still in the critical phase of his surgery, and his signals were still not returning.
Moragas had already charged forward. She had to hold the line.
Thinking this, determination hardened Violet’s face. “Master! I’m transferring all my energy to you! From now on, I will guard Restricted Zone 53!”
On the battlefield, the three Demigods appeared at once.
The Lightning Demigod, O’Neill, raised his hand and summoned ten thousand thunder tribulations. Dense blue-white lightning rained down upon them.
The Frost Demigod, Kobe, cracked the ground with ice. A supreme chill spread out on the wind.
The Earth Demigod, Garnett, stepped out of a ten-times gravity field. Every step he took made the ground sink half a meter.
The power of these three rules combined and slammed against the light barrier covering the two restricted zones. The entire sky trembled.
Boom!
The pale golden surface of the barrier instantly filled with a dense web of cracks.
Violet suddenly felt a sharp pain in her chest, and a trickle of pale golden blood leaked from her corner of her mouth.
Just now, as the operator of the defense ring, she had taken a tiny fraction of that backlash’s force herself.
“I won’t let you in that easily!” Violet shouted. She drove the Staff of Creation into the ground with her left hand, bent her knees slightly to absorb the shock, and ground her boots against the volcanic rock, carving two scorch-black furrows. She forced herself to stay standing and refused to kneel.
When the shaking subsided, Violet straightened up, gritted her teeth, and sent another urgent message to Logan via her soul contract.
“Master, the three coming are Demigods who command lightning, Frost, and the earth rules! I will hold on until you are safe!”
On the other side…
Moragas, leading three-hundred-winged bone dragons with wingspans of a hundred meters, had rushed to the outer perimeter of the defense line.
Gray-white soul mist covered half the sky. The Lich King, with his Demigod-stage pressure fully unleashed, took the remaining force of the lightning and charged hard toward the three Demigods.
“Logan! Hurry up and help!”
“Those are three Demigods, not three little girls! If I try to fight them all alone, people are going to die!”
…
At the same time, inside a side room at the No. 46 Restricted Zone outpost.
Green Vine stood by Kane’s bedside. Emerald-green healing vines wrapped around her body.
Her eyes were slightly dark from not sleeping for three days, yet her gaze never left the pale golden old scar on Kane’s left arm.
Now, Kane’s two-meter Demigod body lay on the bed. The bowl-sized wound on his chest had healed, covered by a layer of pale golden scab.
His breath was stable at thirty percent of his peak level. However, he remained in a deep coma with no signs of waking up.
Green Vine summoned a rice-grain-sized emerald detection light at her fingertip and gently pressed it against Kane’s left arm to scan for rule fluctuations inside his body.
The moment the light sank into his skin, Green Vine frowned.
She sensed that the Devouring Rule residue in Kane’s Soul Sea was producing a faint Resonance with the Truth Marks of The Observer No. 1 floating in the air.
“There’s even The Observer No. 1’s hand behind this injury!” Green Vine exclaimed in disbelief.
She focused on sensing this frequency, and her expression grew progressively worse.
Although this Resonance frequency was still weak, it was slowly growing stronger.
Green Vine increased her detection power, pushing her soul consciousness deep into Kane’s DNA level.
Finally, she found a golden scar seed the size of a needle tip under Kane’s left arm skin.
This was the same origin as the golden scar on Logan’s left arm, but on a tiny scale, like a seed just planted.
The healer beside her leaned in and whispered softly, “Lady Green Vine, should we report this to Lord Logan now?”
Green Vine retracted the detection light. Her fingertips felt numb.
During the scan, the cold sensation from that tiny golden seed felt exactly like the Truth Marks on Logan’s body.
After a moment of thought, she shook her head. She pressed a sealing rune into her fingertip and placed it on Kane’s left arm. “Don’t cause complications now. This is the critical phase of the surgery. Seal this mark for now. Do not disturb Logan.”
Green Vine pulled out her portable jade tablet and, with her fingertip, carved a note: “Kane’s Truth Mark Resonance rate is 5%. A golden scar is beginning to sprout. The Truth-transformation has entered its initial stage. Suggestion: Continue observation…”
She tucked the jade slip safely inside her clothes, added another layer of healing vines to Kane’s body, and stared fixedly at the faint golden light on his arm, unable to look away.
Kane’s eyelids fluttered slightly, then quickly settled back into stillness.
Inside the operating room, Logan finally received Violet’s second urgent message.
Seeing the danger Violet faced, Logan’s brow furrowed tight.
He had just finished the 10% removal, and the surgery was at a critical turning point.
If he stopped now, all his previous effort would be wasted. Worse, the Truth Marks could spread in the chaos, making them much harder to clear later.
But the three Demigods outside had already arrived. Moragas was forced to fight, yet he was only one person. Against three full Demigods, Moragas simply wouldn’t last long.
Plus, Violet’s Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor was already at its limit. If she used it again, the defense rings of the restricted zones would likely be breached.
If that happened, the countdown Logan and Violet had agreed upon might end prematurely.
Thinking this, Logan looked down at the golden scar on his left arm, which had shrunk by a little, then glanced at Cassandra lying nearby. His face showed deep conflict.
Meanwhile, Moragas stood atop the black walls of Eternal Night City. He slammed his soul staff deep into the volcanic rock beneath his feet.
Gray-white Soul Rule spread from the staff, covering the three hundred undead bone dragons lined up behind him.
Each dragon had a wingspan over a hundred meters. Hollow eye sockets burned with eerie blue soul fire, and fine wisps of soul mist drifted from their bone joints. They formed a massive cone-shaped charge formation.
