Chapter 408: Chapter 408: I Can’t Hold On! I’m Coming Out Early!
A long roar erupted from Moragas as he pushed his full Demigod-stage pressure. The sound traveled through the soul link to Violet’s side: “Violet! Contact Logan immediately!”
Upon hearing this, Violet replied with a calm expression: “I’ve contacted him. The Master said you can handle this alone. You are a seasoned Demigod!”
Flattered by Violet’s praise, Moragas grinned, his voice lifting with confidence. “Three Demigods? Even if I can’t drive them back, I can definitely stall them for a while. Get ready to support me!”
“Undead Legion, charge with me for something huge!” Moragas gritted his teeth and waved his hand. Behind him, three hundred bone dragons lifted their bone wings simultaneously. Blue soul fire flared brightly in their eye sockets as they let out a deafening roar.
He leaped onto the head of the leading Bone Dragon King. Pointing his soul staff at the enemy formation, he released a stream of gray-white soul mist from the staff’s shaft. The mist enveloped the entire army. “Conical formation! Soul mist cover! Follow me and charge!”
All three hundred bone dragons flapped their wings in unison. The sudden gale blew scattered stones across the ground as they rushed toward the three Demigods in the southeast.
Temple of Destruction.
Violet stood at the temple entrance, her fingers tracing the scalding surface of the Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor.
Cracks now covered the horn completely, and it looked as if it would shatter at any moment.
Listening to Moragas through the comms, she scanned the defense ring with her golden vertical pupils, watching the spiderweb of cracks grow denser. Her heart felt as if it were being squeezed tight.
Actually, the Horn still held one last reserve of world essence deep inside—a secret trump card reserved for a final Self-Destruct to take the enemy down with her.
“If I use it to help Moragas, it might barely push back the three vanguard Demigods.”
“But Logan’s surgery isn’t finished yet. If Observer No. 3 arrives later, the Master won’t be able to stop them.”
Violet bit her lip, then used a communication magic circle on the defense ring to whisper to Moragas: “My Lord, the Master orders you to fight with all your strength. I will use the power of the Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor to support you!”
After speaking, she glanced sideways at the Sky-Shattering Chieftain standing nearby and gave a subtle nod. “Don’t give us away.”
The Sky-Shattering Chieftain immediately tensed his face. He raised his hand to adjust the energy output of the defense array, brightening the light shield to pretend he was helping the horn charge.
Violet bit the tip of her tongue and spat a mouthful of golden blood onto the runes on the horn’s surface.
This wasn’t to activate Self-Destruct. Instead, she triggered the release of all stored world essence within the horn, compressing it backward and sending it through the soul contract directly to Logan in the Time Rift.
The horn’s temperature dropped instantly from 800 degrees to freezing. The golden totem patterns on its surface faded visibly in real-time.
The fine cracks deepened significantly, losing all energy fluctuations until only a heavy, empty shell remained.
Violet’s aura plummeted sharply. She forced back the metallic taste in her throat, maintained her pressure at the 48-star level, and kept her breathing steady so no one would notice her weakness.
In her mind, she counted the time. Originally, she had a 20-day deadline; two days had passed, leaving 18 days.
Moragas commanded the bone dragons to accelerate their dive, charging head-on toward the lightning bolts summoned by the lightning Demigod’s raised hand.
“Ten Thousand Thunder Tribulations!”
Dense, blue-white lightning rained down, striking the front line of bone dragons. The hard dragon bones were instantly scorched into charcoal. The soul fire in their bodies went out, and the bone dragons fell from the high sky, crashing onto the ground and exploding into fine bone dust.
The Frost Demigod waved his hand, sending extreme cold spreading through the wind. Thick ice immediately formed on the bone dragons’ wings, weighing them down so heavily they couldn’t fly and began to fall like stones.
The Earth Demigod stamped his foot hard. A gravity field ten times stronger than normal swept down, crushing the remaining bone dragons. Their bones creaked under the pressure, and their flight altitude dropped by half in an instant.
“What’s going on? Where’s the support?” Moragas paused in confusion, surprised that the expected Demigod-stage pressure from the Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor never appeared.
He turned his head toward the Temple of Destruction. There was only the faint golden light of the defense ring, with no totem god-power overflowing. “Damn it! Violet, what are you waiting for!”
Before Moragas could finish his questioning, attacks from all three Demigods struck him at once. The lightning paralyzed Moragas’s soul circuits, the frost froze his energy flow, and the earth’s gravity pressed down so hard on his chest that he felt suffocated.
Moragas let out a muffled groan. His soul shield shattered instantly, and a bowl-sized wound was slashed across his chest by the lightning.
For a moment, gray-white soul blood sprayed out, scattering into the air.
“Damn it! Retreat!” Moragas dared not withstand it any longer. Taking a hit from the frost, he led the remaining thirty-odd bone dragons in a clumsy retreat back toward Eternal Night City.
Nine out of every ten bone dragons were lost. The survivors mostly had broken limbs and wings, and their soul fire was so dim it looked ready to go out at any second.
When Moragas landed at the temple entrance, he just saw Violet letting go of the Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor.
The golden totem patterns on the horn had completely faded. It felt as cold as an ordinary stone, with absolutely no energy fluctuation left.
He immediately realized he had been tricked.
Violet hadn’t used the horn’s power to support him. Instead, she had used the soul master-servant contract to reverse-transmit all the remaining world essence stored inside the horn directly to Logan in the Time Rift.
Now, the horn was completely drained of energy, reduced to nothing but an empty shell. It was worth no more than a random rock on the roadside.
Moragas opened his mouth, then closed it again, swallowing his words.
After a few seconds of stunned silence, he suddenly let out a low laugh. Coughing up gray-white blood, he knelt on one knee. “Violet, when did you become as sneaky as Logan?”
“So it turns out I was the bait! But if I managed to stall them for three minutes, this beating wasn’t entirely in vain.”
He had attacked on his own initiative in the first place, mainly to save Logan’s life and his own.
So, returning in such a crushing defeat, he had no right to blame anyone.
“It’s up to you now! Girl, if you fail in Zone No. 53, our cooperation agreement is void immediately!” Moragas didn’t accuse Violet directly, but there was no way he would lend a hand again.
Not only had he just suffered heavy injuries, but the way Violet had tricked him made him want to walk away.
Violet had no choice but to raise the Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor high. Her golden vertical pupils swept coldly toward the three Demigods in the distance. “One more step forward, and we go down together!”
The three Demigods had just pushed back Moragas’s charge and were about to continue their attack. But seeing Violet hold the Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor high, they instinctively stopped in their tracks.
They knew the Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor was a Demigod-stage secret treasure of the Ancient Beast Clan. The power of its Self-Destruct was enough to kill three Demigods along with the user. They had no reason to risk their own destruction by charging blindly.
The lead lightning Demigod narrowed his eyes and exchanged a glance with the Frost and earth Demigods beside him. “Her pressure seems a bit fake. Could she be bluffing?”
The earth Demigod shook his head, staring at the horn in Violet’s hands without moving a muscle. “We can’t afford to gamble. If that horn really explodes, all three of us will be severely hurt.”
After a moment of weighing the risks, the three of them temporarily retreated to a spot five kilometers away, setting up camp to wait for the arrival of Observer No. 3.
Time Rift.
Suddenly, Logan on the operating table felt a massive influx of warm, emerald energy through the soul contract. It carried the unique totem scent of the Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor—the specific frequency of the world essence stored inside the horn.
In an instant, he understood. Violet had used the horn’s last reserve. Clenching his right hand tightly around Clea’s wrist, he said, “This is the Horn of the Sky-Shattering Ancestor’s world essence. She played her trump card!”
“Clea! Accelerate the separation surgery. Use this sudden surge of extra energy to hit the remaining parasitic areas. Violet is in danger; she can’t hold on much longer!”
Clea nodded immediately. She adjusted the operating frequency of her life threads, channeling the Creation Rule energy Violet had transmitted. It poured continuously into Logan’s nine-spiral DNA, serving as the filler material to strip away the Truth Mark.
Beside her, Gray Bone channeled even more death aura, flowing through Logan’s veins to suppress the chaotic Gene Devour chains caused by the sudden energy surge, preventing any backlash.
The time flow inside the Time Rift was five times faster than outside. For every hour that passed in the real world, five hours passed here.
Internal time jumped from Day 3 all the way to Day 30. The golden scar on Logan’s left arm had shrunk by 80%.
Originally, the Truth Mark had been settled in the core of the nine-spiral. Now, only 20% remained, stuck at the intersection of the Creation and Devour gene chains, like a stain that refused to come off.
Furthermore, under the stress of the surgery, the Cassandra lying on the nearby bed suddenly twitched a finger.
His eyelids fluttered weakly. The breath, which had been so faint it was nearly undetectable, had stabilized.
His life force had now been repaired to 50%, showing clear signs that he was on the verge of waking up.
However, the forced acceleration of the stripping process had come at a cost.
Wiping sweat from her temples, Clea’s face was pale. The emerald threads still wrapped around Logan’s left arm as she spoke, “Logan, the repair process for the Time Rule gene chain was interrupted. It only reached a critical state.”
“Because it hasn’t fully healed, the Time Anchor it originally sealed cannot be activated. The remaining two Time Return permissions are still locked by the Void Space and are unusable.”
Logan looked inward at the nine-spiral structure of his genes. He saw that due to the surgery’s backlash, the DNA cracks had briefly worsened from Level 8 to 8.2, before quickly stabilizing.
He touched the mark of his soul contract. He could feel that Violet’s presence was much weaker now. Through the contract, he sensed her straining to maintain her pressure, like a bowstring pulled to its absolute limit, ready to snap at any moment.
“That foolish girl won’t last much longer!” Logan couldn’t wait for the final 20% stripping to finish. He suddenly sat up and ripped off all the emerald threads connected to his body.
Where the threads snapped, tiny sparks of energy flew into the air, hitting the metal surface of the operating table and sizzling.
“Prepare for thawing. I’m going out,” Logan ordered Clea immediately.
Clea paused, about to tell him to wait a little longer. But seeing his cold, icy eyes, she swallowed her words. She immediately began to deactivate the time-freeze runes.
