Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person - Chapter 180 132: Stacking Defenses Is Crucial

There were seven people in the Mercedes RV. Except for Yu Qing who was slightly inferior, the other six were all formidable fighters. Pang Dakun was unwilling to kill the familiar-faced zombies of Shuwa Village, but he was not weak.
Yet, even so, they still felt like there was an endless stream of zombies surrounding the car. As soon as they killed one, two more would squeeze in to take its place, snarling and shrieking.
Dark blood plasma and tissue fluid splattered everywhere in the dim light—on the car body, curtains, sofa, and coffee table. The interior of the car was like a dye shop, with various colors sprayed all over, not to mention the people, who were in a complete mess.
Compared to the ample combat power inside the Mercedes RV, the situation at the Fukner Meifu was rather worrisome. There were only three women in the car: the driver Tan Huajun, Pei Lan, whose arm was still in a sling, and Zhang Ya…
Initially, Tan Huajun wanted to start the RV, but she truly didn’t know whether to go forward or backward.
Going forward, there were countless zombies, so the car couldn’t possibly drive through them. Going backward, given the ten-meter-long bulk of the Fukner Meifu, it was basically as wide as a provincial road. Turning around required at least seven or eight maneuvers, and she assumed as soon as she turned the car sideways, it would be pushed over by zombies…
As for reversing, the three cars had already drawn away many zombies. If they reversed too slowly, it would be meaningless, but too fast, and they would crash into the zombies. It was futile, and if the car fell into a ditch, survival was nearly impossible!
After thinking it over, staying put and defending seemed to be the best strategy.
Tan Huajun, being the primary combatant of the entire vehicle, leaned out half of her body, wielding a gigantic caliper to smash. Each swing was fairly precise in hitting the zombies’ vitals, although sometimes the force wasn’t enough to kill them immediately. But after three or five hits, she could still take one down.
Zhang Ya was also desperately fighting, risking everything at this critical moment. The special hiking cane in her hand kept stabbing downwards. Although it wasn’t as effective as Lu Yubo’s grain sampler, it had a much longer attack range than a short dagger and could effectively kill zombies. Her efficiency in killing was surprisingly not low.
The weakest naturally was Pei Lan, who still had one arm unable to function normally. Hearing the thumping of zombies knocking against the car body and watching the zombie figures gathering outside the window, she felt a chill all over her body.
Yet, even so, she didn’t sit idly by. Holding a dagger, whenever she saw a zombie climbing up to the edge of the window, she would jab at it. It might not kill directly, but she could always push the zombie down, effectively relieving some pressure.
“Hold on, there aren’t many zombies left. Hang in there, just hold your breath and persevere!”
Zhang Su, with a dagger in his left hand and an axe hammer in the right, encouraged everyone with his words while frantically hacking zombies trying to squeeze into the RV.
“Ah, quick, quick, help me!”
Suddenly, Yuwen shouted. It turned out an Old Liu zombie had caught him off guard and bitten his arm. Luckily, his clothes were thick, sparing his arm, but it gnawed at his sleeve while shaking its head wildly.
“Ah!”
Beside him, Zheng Xinyu pulled out a dagger and stabbed it directly into the zombie’s temple.
Yuwen wasn’t idle either and took advantage of the moment to kick away the relentless zombie. He fell backward, grateful he didn’t have hypertension or coronary disease, or it could’ve been serious.
No time to rest, Yuwen got up and nodded gratefully at Zheng Xinyu before diving back into the fight.
Around the Mercedes RV, zombie corpses were piled up to a meter high. The following zombies could easily reach the RV’s window glass just by stepping on the pile, which made attacking the RV much easier for them.
But this also made it a bit easier for Zhang Su and the others to kill zombies. At least they didn’t have to stretch to reach the zombies’ heads; they could simply stab outward, which was a tremendous test of stamina and strength.
It was evident that after ten minutes of holding, only Zhang Su and Zhao Dezhu maintained a high combat capacity, while the rest were showing signs of fatigue.
What took two or three strikes to kill a zombie initially, gradually took five or six hits. Eventually, several women couldn’t kill zombies any longer, only managing to push the zombies away from the window, buying Zhang Su and Zhao Dezhu some time.
While waving his weapon, Zhang Su glanced into the distance. In the darkness, he could no longer see the zombie horde lured away by Good Fortune and the three cars, nor could he hear barking and horn sounds. Steeling himself, he kicked another zombie off from the window and reached into his bag, pulling out three USPs. While unlocking the safety, he shouted.
“Zhuzi, do you know how to use a gun!”
Zhao Dezhu was fiercely fighting when he heard Zhang Su’s shout and responded immediately, “If I aim at the head, I won’t miss!”
“Here, take it! Don’t waste bullets.”
Zhang Su swiftly ran to Zhao Dezhu, handing him a gun. As fast as a flash, he raised his gun and fired two bangs at the zombies entangled with Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan.
Bang, bang.
The two zombies, half their bodies inside the car, were vanquished on the spot, pushed off the pile by Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan.
The sound of gunfire echoed in the car, deafening a few people’s eardrums, but no one cared. The gunfire reignited hope in their hearts, awakening the strength ingrained within, rejoining the battle.
Zhang Su wielded two USPs, and as Zhao Dezhu said, he almost always aimed directly at the zombie heads before pulling the trigger. With twenty-six bullets, they killed nearly twenty zombies, achieving a very high kill ratio and making full use of the bullets!
Zhao Dezhu was also not taking it lightly, cursing while using his left hand to defend with a Kukri knife and his right hand to aim with a gun, shooting bang, bang, bang. Zombies outside the window toppled over into the corpse heap.
With the addition of pistols to the fight, the zombies besieging the Mercedes RV were quickly reduced to almost nothing, and it also eased the pressure on the three in the Fukner Meifu. Some zombies attacking the Fukner Meifu heard the gunfire and began moving towards the Mercedes RV.
Click, click, Zhang Su pressed the bullets while saying, “Where’s the flashlight? Shine it outside and take a look at the situation!”
Upon hearing this, Zheng Xinyu, with her exhausted arms trembling, turned on the flashlight hanging on her chest and shone it outside. They all breathed a collective sigh of relief, as the light beam revealed only a dozen zombies left clumsily climbing the corpse pile.
“I’ll kill you all!”
Zhao Dezhu was about to climb out the window as he spoke.
“Stop right there!”
Zhang Su immediately stopped the bloodthirsty Zhao Dezhu and said, “Who can guarantee that the zombies in the corpse pile are all dead? One bite, and you’re done for!”
Even if there were no surviving zombies, what if his foot landed right on the zombie’s teeth? That would truly be bad luck.
“Right, right, brother. You’re thorough. I’m not going!”
Zhao Dezhu wiped the filth off his face, revealing a grim white smile.
A moment later, the zombies clambered to the window, and with a few muffled thuds, the last small group of zombies was dealt with. As the sound of bodies rolling to the ground settled, the world returned to quiet, leaving only heavy panting. In the distance, the eastern sky began to turn a faint gray—the dawn was approaching.
“No one got injured, right? I mean, no bites or scratches from the zombies…”
Zhang Su took a deep breath and asked.
“Defense was enough, no problem!”
“A zombie took a bite out of my arm, ripped a piece off my clothes. We really need to stack up on defense next time.”
“Wearing this much is exhausting, but it’s for protection. Damn, I’m so tired…”
Everyone slumped to the ground, their bodies fueled by adrenaline during the frenzy of killing. Once the tension passed, exhaustion spread throughout, feeling like their hands weren’t even their own. No exaggeration, even taking a dump and wiping was a struggle now.
“My dog, my Good Fortune…”
Zheng Xinyu leaned against the wagon, choking up as she remembered the moment Good Fortune lured the zombies away.
“And Bozai and Xiaoxue… damn it, we don’t even know how they’re doing!”
Zhang Su took off his blood-soaked clothes, wiped them across his face, and tossed them out the window. He peered into the distance, but it was too dark to see anything clearly. He shined a flashlight onto Fukner Meifu’s windshield and shouted.
“Old Tan, how about you guys over there?”
“Pei Lan’s arm wound split open again, but Zhang Ya and I are fine!”
Tan Huajun replied.
Zhang Su signaled with his flashlight that he understood, then retracted into the driver’s seat, the pungent mix of mud and blood lingering in the air around him.
“Brother Su, what should we do next?”
Zhong Xiaoshan asked.
“Bro, we’ve got to go save them!”
Zhao Dezhu said, breathing heavily.
“Brother Su, let’s go find Bozai and Sister Xue?” Although Zheng Xinyu felt exhausted, losing four teammates at once was too heavy a blow; they had to go rescue them.
Zhang Su pressed the vehicle’s start button, the engine rumbled to life. He glanced at the situation behind the vehicle and said, “I’m going back to find Bozai, you guys stay here!”
“What? No, I’m coming with you!”
Zheng Xinyu stood up immediately. Covered in blood and grime, she looked like a doll in a dark ritual, eerily scary.
“No one follows me; you all clear away the zombie bodies. At least make a path for the vehicle!”
Vroom, vroom!
Zhang Su shifted into reverse, the RV lurched but couldn’t climb over the pile of zombie bodies.
Vroom!
He floored the gas, the RV lifted slightly, emitting squelching sounds as it crushed over the bodies. Despite its heft, the RV had good off-road capability, managing to back out from the tilted heap of zombies.
Hiss hiss.
He parked the vehicle on a cleaner stretch of road. The hydraulic door opened, and Zhang Su clapped his hands, urging, “Quickly, get off the vehicle. Oh, and remember to stab the bodies in the head while moving them. Always finish them off!”
Even though Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan wanted to stay on the vehicle, they knew this wasn’t the time to be willful and joined the others in getting off.
Zhang Su waited until everyone was off, then started the challenging maneuver of turning the twelve-meter-long vehicle around with the help of Tan Huajun at the front and back. After over ten attempts, he finally turned it around and drove forward.
Zheng Xinyu and the others watched the RV gradually disappear into the distance, their faces full of worry.
“Why didn’t he take us with him…”
“Spitting…” Zhao Dezhu spat into the ditch, sighed, and said, “Big sister-in-law, we’re all dog-tired and can’t keep up. Going along would just be a burden; Brother Su just didn’t want to say it.”
Startled by Zhao Dezhu’s odd way of addressing her, Zheng Xinyu frowned and said with disgust, “Don’t call me big sister-in-law, it sounds awful. Just call me Xinyu, heh heh… Hey, look, Good Fortune is back!”
Just as she spoke, Zheng Xinyu heard the splashing sound of water across the road. Looking over, she saw Good Fortune!
Zhao Dezhu exclaimed, “It really is Good Fortune. Damn, what a miracle dog. I just said we were as tired as dogs, but this dog isn’t tired at all… Oh my, it’s filthy!”
When Good Fortune trotted up to them, it was astonishing. From head to tail, it was covered in mud, having become a mud-drenched dog with only a red tongue sticking out, panting heavily.
“Good Fortune, what happened… Hey, where are you going?”
Zheng Xinyu had just squatted down to check on the Corgi when she saw it glance around before sprinting off in the direction of the RV, moving even faster than when it returned.
“Loyal dog to its master, going after Mr. Zhang…”
Watching Good Fortune darting into the distance, Yuwen remarked with admiration.
