Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person - Chapter 181 133: Desperate Measures

Zhang Su was driving on the highway, constantly looking around. Although the sky was dark, a large group of zombies could still be seen if there were any. Before he could spot any zombies, he noticed a moving object on the rearview mirror screen!
“Oh crap, why did that silly dog come here!”
Without needing a clear look, Zhang Su could tell from the general outline that it was Corgi Good Fortune. He glanced at the speedometer; it was about forty kilometers per hour. Comparing, he got a more vivid sense of Good Fortune’s speed.
Although Good Fortune could catch up with the RV, Zhang Su still slowed down and opened the car door.
Good Fortune quickly jumped into the car. Once it found Zhang Su, it felt completely at ease, panting heavily on the carpet and looking up at Zhang Su as if to say, “Look how amazing I am, praise me.”
Zhang Su didn’t have time to delay. As soon as Good Fortune got into the car, he restarted it and said, “Lucky, are you hurt?”
It didn’t look injured from its lively run, but he asked anyway.
Woof.
Good Fortune responded calmly. Although the language was different, its tone reassured him that it was fine.
“Your speed is insane! Damn, those guys in the cars aren’t much faster than you, so they should be okay!”
As he thought this, a flash of light came from the southwest, followed by a huge bang!
“Damn it!”
The extraordinary loud noise combined with the blazing fire told him there was an explosion. Without a doubt, one of the three cars must have blown up!
Zhang Su accelerated, quickly spotting a car speeding down a dirt road towards the highway, kicking up mud and water. From the headlights, he could tell it was a Prado, and his heart sank.
The three cars moved together, and now only one was left. Had the other two cars crashed?
“It’s over, all over!”
Zhang Su muttered as he hurriedly drove to the T-junction, waiting for the Prado to arrive.
“Brother Su!”
Zhang Su didn’t have to wait long before Lu Yubo was hanging out of the car window, waving frantically.
Screech!
With a sharp tire screech, the Prado stopped in the middle of the road.
“Where’s everyone? What about Xiaoxue and the others?”
Zhao Xue, knowing Zhang Su was worried about her and Wu Lue, quickly reported, “Brother Su, we’re here! Wu Lue and I are fine!”
The rear door opened, and five muddied people stumbled out like rolling gourds, making it clear they were packed tightly in the car…
“Brother Su, something happened!” Lu Yubo jumped out of the car, pointing at the passenger seat, “Chen Hanzhou got bitten on the hand!”
“What the hell happened!”
Zhang Su’s head buzzed. Chen Hanzhou didn’t usually talk much, but he was always active during missions and had good combat skills, a valuable member of the team.
He yanked open the car door to see Chen Hanzhou sitting silently in the passenger seat.
Seeing Zhang Su opening the door, Chen Hanzhou managed a rare smile, the first since leaving Phoenix International Gas Station.
Before Chen Hanzhou could speak, Zhang Su pulled him out of the car urgently, “Where were you bitten?”
“On the hand.” Chen Hanzhou shook his right hand, showing a shallow and dense line of teeth marks on the edge of his palm. It wasn’t deep, but blood seeped out, indicating the zombie was dealt with immediately, or else the flesh would’ve been gone.
Clang.
Zhang Su pulled out the machete and said, “Quick, take off your shirt!”
“Brother Su, no, don’t…”
“No buts, hold him down!”
Zhang Su loudly instructed the others nearby.
The others immediately knew what Zhang Su intended. Without hesitation, they stepped up and pinned Chen Hanzhou down.
“Brother Su, it’s too late. It only takes a few minutes for the blood to circulate through the entire body. The virus has already spread, don’t bother.”
Chen Hanzhou was pinned sitting on the ground, not struggling, merely speaking calmly.
“Nobody knows exactly what this virus does. Stop rambling, better to try anything!”
Zhang Su took out a plastic tie from his pocket and swiftly tied it around Chen Hanzhou’s upper arm, tightening it firmly. Then, without saying a word to anyone, his machete flashed coldly!
“Ah…”
“Ah, ah!”
With the hand lifted and the machete falling, two cries rang out; first, Chen Hanzhou screamed in pain, and then Wu Lue, who was pinning him down, fell to the ground holding half an arm, his muddy face filled with terror.
“Brother Su, what should I do with this?”
Wu Lue, at a loss, held the arm, unsure whether to drop it.
“Just throw it away! Quick, Bozai, take him back to find Xiaoshan!”
After speaking, Zhang Su helped the pallid, trembling-lipped Chen Hanzhou into the front passenger seat of the Prado.
“Good, good!” Lu Yubo was equally shocked. He’s only ruthless against zombies and enemies, but seeing his companion lose an arm was quite distressing. Once the passenger door was closed, he floored the gas pedal and sped off.
Zhang Su looked at the blood splattered on the ground, furrowed his brows deeply, and said, “I hope Xiaochen can get through this ordeal.”
Everyone fell silent, not knowing what to say at times like these.
Zhang Su spaced out for a while as the sky slowly brightened, slightly clearing the gloom in his heart. He looked up at the three unfamiliar faces, nodded slightly without saying much, and called to the five: “Help me keep an eye on the roadbed, I’ll turn around now!”
On the way back, Zhang Su asked while driving, “Xiaoxue, what happened with the explosion earlier?”
“There was no way to escape, Wu Lue and I decided to blow up the car to attract the zombies…”
Zhao Xue spoke timidly, unsure if she had done the right thing, her head slightly lowered, looking at the sticky carpet.
“The method is feasible, but it was a bit too aggressive. Luckily Bozai’s car didn’t have any issues… By the way, what happened to your guys’ car?”
Zhang Su glanced at the three sitting against the coffee table through the rearview mirror.
“Well, our car broke down in the field, stepping on the gas didn’t work… Luckily that young brother came back, otherwise, we’d be in trouble.”
The slightly chubby Liu Tianji recounted their earlier experience, with a layer of sweat on his forehead.
“Your reaction wasn’t bad. If you were slower, you would probably have been buried by zombies. Thanks for your help this time,” Zhang Su said.
“Actually, we were all scared stiff at the time. We simply did whatever the big G and the domineering did.”
Liu Tianji just wanted to show himself more in times of crisis, hoping to join this group of survivors. Unexpectedly, he almost got all three of them into trouble, so he didn’t dare to lay claim to any credit, speaking truthfully.
Zhang Su could roughly guess the thoughts of the Touareg trio, which is a very normal reaction and a necessary behavior. It’s always better to actively perform than to sit still with numbness.
“There’s room in the RV, so you guys can join us for now,” Zhang Su declared. Anyone who can lend a hand in times of crisis can’t be too bad, even if there’s a bit of cunning involved, they at least took action and almost got killed…
“Hey, hey, alright, big brother, may I know your name?”
Liu Tianji was very pleased to hear Zhang Su was willing to temporarily accept them. Instinctively reaching for a cigarette, then remembering those things were forever left in the pile of zombies along with the car.
“Zhang, they all call me Brother Su, you can call me that too, or Zhang Su if it feels more comfortable.”
Zhang Su felt slightly down as he saw the Prado and Fukner Meifu in front.
“No, no, it’s actually quite comfortable, we hope Brother Su will look after us.” Liu Tianji was rather polite, clearly an adaptable person, speaking as he nudged Wang Xin with his elbow.
“We hope Brother Su will look after us too!” Wang Xin understood immediately, hurriedly expressing goodwill to Zhang Su along with Liu Tianji.
Zhou Litao didn’t say anything, appearing absent-minded, deep in a daydream.
Zhang Su smiled with Liu Tianji and Wang Xin, not minding Zhou Litao, guessing he was probably frightened.
“Xiaoshan, how is Xiaochen?”
After parking the car, Zhang Su ran into Fukner Meifu immediately, seeing Zhong Xiaoshan busy, with Pei Lan and Yu Qing holding flashlights to simulate the effect of shadowless lights.
“I haven’t turned into a zombie yet, Brother Su…” Chen Hanzhou spoke feebly and then inexplicably chuckled, “Damn, I’ve become Yang Guo, Pei Lan’s arm is also hanging, wonder if Kuang Miao and Song Yijun also broke their arms, hahaha.”
“You still… Alas, they…” Pei Lan initially thought to mention how he still had the spirit to laugh, but upon reconsidering Chen Hanzhou hadn’t smiled like this in a while, she withdrew the words.
“Brother Su, I’m a bit sleepy…” Chen Hanzhou gently turned his head and said, “Nurse Zhong, did you give me anesthesia?”
“You’ve lost too much blood… Don’t talk, save your energy, rest if you want, it’s okay,” Zhong Xiaoshan replied softly while busy with her work.
Zhang Su found a spot to sit and said, “Yeah, Xiaochen, you should sleep.”
“Brother Su, I’m going to sleep. If I transform into a zombie, end it quickly for me, don’t let me hurt anyone, okay?”
Chen Hanzhou murmured.
Pei Lan watched Chen Hanzhou’s feeble state with tears welling up, turning her head away unable to bear it.
“Okay, I’ve loaded the USP, won’t let you suffer. Go ahead and rest, sleep.”
Zhang Su didn’t bother comforting Chen Hanzhou with empty words, believing he wouldn’t want to hear them, complying with his request seemed more practical.
“I didn’t even get to touch the gun, what a pity, Brother Su, if I don’t become a zombie, can I shoot some rounds?”
Chen Hanzhou resisted the waves of dizziness and asked.
“You’ll get a hundred bullets, have your fill, sleep first!”
Zhang Su saw Zhong Xiaoshan constantly signaling him to let Chen Hanzhou rest quickly.
“Alright, I’ll sleep a bit, sleep a bit. Brother Su, you’re a good person, I shouldn’t have said those things to you back then, I’ll sleep a bit now…”
Mumbling, Chen Hanzhou slowly closed his eyes.
“Let’s disperse, everyone rest separately.”
Zhang Su took a deep breath, washed his face at the basin, stared at the mirror for a while, and sat back across from Chen Hanzhou, gripping the USP firmly.
Sending off a teammate is too cruel, only he can bear it…
