Chapter 1895: The New Cute Sensei from Overseas of the Onmyōji Academy
—–
“Elayne, are you a Dryad or something? Your presence is truly unique.”
“I… well, kind of. I am a Druid, and my body has slowly been modified, merging with plants and nature,” Elayne explained. She was not exactly lying.
“Incredible. Do you know magic?” he asked.
“I am quite an expert,” Elayne said confidently. “I also know how to help students develop Physiques and Magic Circles.”
“Oh? What is that?” he asked, clearly intrigued.
“I can show you more later, but…”
Elayne explained in careful detail everything she could offer, essentially outlining her entire curriculum as a magus and why he should hire her at the academy.
“Hmm! We do have some slots available. A few professors did not attend this year’s classes,” he nodded. “Okay! You’re hired, Elayne-san!”
“Eh?! R-Really?!” Elayne was stunned that she had convinced him after only twenty minutes of conversation.
“That’s right. Talent recognizes talent, right?” he laughed. “I can tell you are a genius and an intelligent woman just from speaking with you. And as Elena’s mother and a dear friend of Olivia, how could I possibly turn you away? It will be better to employ you right away so the elders do not cause any trouble. Like your daughter, you will become an honorary member of the clan for as long as you work here.”
“Thank you so much. Truly,” Elayne said, bowing her head in traditional Japanese style. The gesture clearly pleased the director.
“Aren’t you a ray of sunshine? Please do not worry about formalities,” he said warmly. “Alright, now sign here and here…”
After an hour, Elena returned to her classes. An elderly woman was teaching them about the Dao, the Yin and Yang Rotation Arts, and how to comprehend these elements and incorporate them into their bodies.
Once classes ended and the students enjoyed a short break, a brand-new beautiful sensei arrived. Both boys and girls blushed at her floral presence and radiant aura. She looked like a goddess of nature.
“Hello, students! My name is Elayne-san. I will be your professor for today. I will be teaching you Spirit Magic and the Elements of Nature. Later, if we have enough time, I am willing to give lessons on Magic Circles and Physiques, a new subject we will be adding to your classes.”
“OOOOHHHH!”
The boys cheered the loudest, clearly excited.
“S-Sensei!”
“Hi!”
“I had no idea!”
“Isn’t she beautiful?”
“I hope we can get along!”
“Wow, where did she even come from?!”
Elayne felt overwhelmed. This was her first time acting as a teacher, and she did her best to remain calm and composed. “I-I… please calm down, everyone. This is my first time teaching, and I am quite nervous. Please go easy on me, okay?”
“S-She’s cute!”
“O-Of course!”
“Yes, Elayne-sensei!”
“Please forgive us…”
Elayne smiled brightly, radiating warmth like sunshine. “Thank you so much for your consideration, everyone! Shall we begin? Spirit Magic is the foundation of Spiritualism. Please open your Magic Encyclopedia to page 82, and let’s read along…”
Elena and her friends were stunned. Despite a little initial awkwardness, Elayne seemed like a natural-born teacher.
She taught the class about Spirit Magic, how to connect with a Familiar Spirit, and how to conjure magic related to their element by borrowing its power.
Even Elena and her friends learned new things they had not known before. Elena realized she might be able to incorporate more Spirit Magic connected to her mother into her own arsenal.
Later, she introduced a method she had brought from Arcadia: Internal Magic Circle creation. No one had ever heard of it, yet she helped the students forge one with surprising ease.
Several students were fortunate enough to receive her personal guidance and obtained an internal magic circle they could nurture through their own efforts.
“Thank you, everyone. See you the day after tomorrow!”
“Goodbye, sensei!”
“Please take care!”
“Elayne-sensei! You’re the best!”
“She’s leaving already?!”
As classes for the day finally ended, Elena and her friends gathered to discuss what they had just witnessed.
“Elena, your mom is a natural!” Elisa said. “I never thought she could adapt so well to this life.”
“Me neither. She’s amazing,” Monica chuckled. “We’re lucky to have her back.”
“Yeah…” Anna nodded. “It’s nice, right? Now I wonder what we should do next… Probably train our abilities. There’s Obsidian too. We should check if he’s healthy.”
As the girls walked out of the classroom, Harumi came running toward them. Matsuo, Erika, and Frank followed close behind, all looking just as confused as Harumi.
“E-Elena, why was Ruler acting as our teacher?!” Harumi asked.
“Isn’t that weird?” Matsuo added. “I thought you had to keep her a secret!”
“We struck a deal with a certain someone,” Elena replied. “I want her around us, living like us instead of hiding all the time. Sorry, Harumi.”
“…No, it’s fine, I guess,” Harumi shook her head. “Maybe it’s my fault… I never thought about something like that for Yasuke…”
“Please do not worry about me, Master. I am fine.”
Yasuke reassured Harumi that everything was okay and that she did not need to worry.
“Are you sure?” Harumi asked.
“Unlike Ruler, I have little I could offer these students. I am rather illiterate when it comes to magic… I have only known how to kill.”
Yes, only how to kill.
If anything defined Yasuke, it was murder.
He had been ordered to kill, and he killed. Many times. Countless times.
Perhaps that was why he had become an Assassin.
He could not become a chivalrous Saber. He lacked the sword mastery that others from his era possessed.
And he was not mad enough to become a Berserker either.
“Well, I cannot say much about this, but… I’m glad things worked out,” Frank muttered. “However, this entire situation is worrying. Why did you even choose to participate, Harumi? Do you not know how worried I am?”
“I-I…” Harumi muttered, looking conflicted. “I’m sorry… It is just that my brother needs help. A wish is the only thing that could heal him.”
“Is that really true? Can’t we find another way?” Matsuo asked.
“We should. Why don’t you ask for our help first instead of doing everything alone?” Erika growled angrily.
“Don’t get mad at me. I did it while fully aware of the consequences!” Harumi shot back.
“If the wound slowly eating away at his soul was made by an angel…” Frank said, “maybe I can do something if I practice enough with my powers…”
“Hm…” Elena listened to their conversation for a moment. “Maybe Mom could help. I mean, Ruler.”
“…?” Harumi turned to Elena in surprise. “W-What do you mean?”
“My mom… had a halo,” Elena explained. “She was granted a halo by the heavens after slaying true demons. Perhaps even in her Heroic Spirit form, she can use that power to extract the celestial energy slowly killing your brother.”
“…?!” Harumi and everyone else gasped, including Elena’s friends. They were shocked that she would reveal such personal information.
