City of Desire [Kingdom Building] - Chapter 878: No Other Way

Proofread by Thomas F
“Zela,” I ordered, seeing Voltwing taking off into the air.
A moment later, shimmering, watery disks of light appeared above me, and I leaped onto them, then landed and began making my way toward the monster.
I have constantly trained with Zela, and it isn’t just simple sparring, but sparring in different scenarios.
As I was leaping across shimmering platforms, I saw something that surprised me. The radiant wings appeared behind Ignatius, and he took to the air.
‘He was able to unlock that ability!’ I thought.
I am not surprised by it; I know the artifact has the ability. Many of the murals in the Blackwell house about his ancestors have wings behind them; they are slightly different, but one could see the similarities.
Roar!
The monster roared, seeing us coming toward it, and launched the large bolts of lightning toward us.
Once more, the cyan blades materialized in front of me and shot toward the coming attack, without stopping my movement forward. I am not going to fight from a distance.
Now that the bear has been dealt with, I am going to fight against this monster head-on.
This monster is extremely dangerous, but the battle is not going to end if we keep fighting from a distance. No, I need to fight closely; it is the only way I can breach its lightning defences.
The blades clashed against the bolts, destroying them, before another barrage of arrows went at the monster. By the time it dealt with it, it had found me in front of it.
“It’s time, we fight head-on,” I said, and I activated everything.
Fractal of Sap Pulse blazed and materialized into a method. Filling my body with the strength, so did the might of harmony. I also activated Root Mind and Still Mind.
The mental skills might feel unnecessary, but I felt the power in its roar. They are so simple roars, but mental, which I will be facing directly.
I didn’t stop at just them; I also activated Lord Presence and pushed it on the monster with the aura.
All these put immense strain on me, but they are necessary to deal with the monster of this great power. Its long-range lightning column had shaken me; the attack from close range would be even more powerful.
I am fearful, but ready to fight it.
I have trained hard over the past few months. My strength had taken a big leap. It’s such a regret that despite that, I couldn’t touch it myself.
It felt my presence skill on it and took it as a challenge, and roared mightily; the roar was a kind of attack with heavy Primal Resonance, but I bore it.
I grinned at it before I shot toward him, trusting Zela, with the surface below my feet.
The monster responded immediately and sent huge lightning bolts toward me. It’s a powerful attack, but I am ready for it.
Cyan blades materialized in front of me and shot toward the bolts, while I kept moving with the Dominion Surge at incredible speed, appearing in front of the monster a second later.
It is a majestic monster, but at close, it looked even more magnificent and downright terrifying.
It’s vast, with thick muscles like steel and large claws, that will not have any problem tearing through me. I am wearing good armor, but I don’t think it will be able to stop its claws.
Or those large, sharp teeth that have incredible power in them.
There is also that tail of it; I will need to be very careful of it. It’s very dangerous.
I attacked without waiting even a moment, activating Tempest Razor and Sundering Blade along with Lash of Grace from my copied skill.
The monster roared, seeing my attack, and I thought it would attack me with lightning, so I prepared myself to deal with it. Instead, it swiped its gigantic claw toward me.
It is thick with long, sharp nails that seemed to be carved out of the lightning itself.
My blade clashed against it, and my eyes widened.
My arm shook, and bones cracked. I rapidly took the steps back, my internals roiling. I had thought that I had enough physical strength to go against it, but I do not.
It has strong elemental power, but it is just as strong physically. Even without the lightning, it could be terrifying with the physical power alone.
It has both. It’s why it is dangerous.
My blade, which cut through anything, was stopped by those wickedly sharp nails filled with lightning and Primal Resonance. I was barely able to make a scratch on them.
The monster roared and came at me, but slowed down as a barrage of arrows came at it.
Earlier, I had supported Ignatius, but now he is supporting me. I need support. Fighting this monster alone is a death sentence.
Still, the monster reached me and attacked, and I didn’t move to clash with it head-on. It is a waste, given its power. So, I moved and dodged the attack, although just barely.
Though just as I did. I found myself coming across another attack. Its wing came at me like a razor.
I moved my sword forward and defended against it. It shook me, not as hard as before, but still shook me. However, the bigger shake was in my mind.
The wing, I thought my sword would tear through, had stopped the attack.
They are elemental wings, the majority of them, but not completely. When it formed its wings, a flexible substance came out of the stumps that formed its shell.
It is invisible in the lightning, but it is there, and I felt it with my blade.
From what I had been told, it is incredibly robust, and now it is even stronger with Primal Resonance.
The material is also in very high demand. Several people had already contacted Ignatius and me about wanting the substance; not just the substance, they want every part of Voltwing Tiger.
I had just defended against the wing when it opened its mouth, and a lightning blast came out of it—a block of thick, powerful, concentrated lightning.
Its mouth and I are very close. I cannot dodge the attack, given the speed of the lightning blast.
A moment later, a massive blast rang out, before it was cleared. There is a pale, rough shield in front of me. Bark Shield had defended against the attack.
It nearly took all the shield’s power. If it had been slightly stronger, it would have destroyed it.
It roared and defended against another barrage of arrows. Taking the opportunity, I moved toward it as cyan blades formed around me and attacked the Voltwing.
It sent the lightning to deal with it, while I went at it from the front.
I would have liked to attack its back, but those wings will not let me. The tail guards the back. Its monster has a few weaknesses; this is why it’s so dangerous.
I would have still tried if we had been fighting on the ground. In the air, I depend on Zela. Here, I didn’t have flexibility; I needed to attack those points.
I appeared in front of it and attacked, but the monster quickly swiped its claws against me.
The bark shield appeared in front of it, while I moved around it for an attack. Only to be shot by the lightning blast. Immediately, I summoned another Bark Shield and moved again to attack from another spot, when a wing attacked me.
Second passed, and another, I tried different places to attack, but it would always stop me from reaching it.
Time passed, and I kept fighting it with complete focus. I did not look at the battlefield, at what others were doing who awakened the auras.
All my focus is on the monster.
I hate to say it, but it is controlling the battlefield, with its superior power and intelligence. It is smart, far smarter than the other monsters of its class.
The more I fight it, the more I realise the truth; it’s not the monster we could defeat.
The realisation didn’t change things. We have to fight it, and we are; Ignatius and I are attacking it constantly. There is no other choice. If we want the horde to retreat, we will have to deal with it.
‘It’s not working, we have to try a different approach,’ I said, finally, as truth pushed down my throat.
‘I was going to say the same thing,’ he replied with a sigh. I could feel the deep frustration in his voice. Despite using all our power, we cannot do anything against the monster.
If we continued like this, the battle would end in the monsters’ favour.
We have already tried everything, but we are not even able to make a scratch. Our attacks aren’t even reaching its skin, much less injuring it in any way.
The tiredness has already started creeping in; I won’t be able to continue for long.
So, we have to do something before that happens.
‘Go, you deal with the other two, I will keep this bastard contained,’ I said finally. It’s not something I want to do, but it has left me with no other choice.
‘It will be very dangerous,’ he stated, and I didn’t refute. ‘It will be, but what other choice do we have?’ I asked back.
‘We cannot defeat it. So, the best way to achieve our goal is to kill the other leaders to force the retreat, because we can’t force this bastard with the power we have.’
I had so much confidence in my strength. I worked hard for it in the past half year.
It is why I know my limitations; I could push myself, but I am aware it would not be enough to defeat the monster, unless it serves its own neck to me without any resistance.
I hate to do this; this bastard attacked my territory with such a massive horde. I desire to kill it, but it’s not possible with the strength I have.
‘Good luck,’ he finally wished. His tone was heavy, knowing how dangerous it would be for me.
I didn’t say anything further and moved to attack the Voltwing, while Ignatius began to shower the arrows on the two leader monsters.
