City of Desire [Kingdom Building] - Chapter 879: Monsters Retreat

Proofread by Thomas F
Seeing Ignatius attacking the other leader monsters, the majestic Voltwing roared. Lightning blades rose across its body before turning into large bolts that shot toward him.
“You are fighting me!” I said.
Eighteen cyan blades appeared with the power of dissolution infused in them and clashed against the lightning bolts.
It roared angrily at me, before swiping its claws toward me, but Bark Shield appeared in front of it, while I moved to a different spot, but it was ready and attacked me with its wings.
I defended, while Ignatius’ arrows had reached the monsters. They dodged and defended, but some of them reached the two monsters, creating holes in their bodies.
It is not enough to kill; it is only a first attack, and he has already started launching the second volley of it.
Voltwing is very powerful. That doesn’t mean the others are too, with that half-relic in his hand. The monsters are not Ignatius’s match; it won’t take him long to finish them off.
Especially when he has the support of two commanders who are keeping these monsters busy.
Roar!
The Voltwing understood it as well, and he roared and covered its body with the lightning before sending a large number of arcs toward the arrows, commanders, and Ignatius.
The cyan blades begin to appear, and soon there are twenty-four of them in front of me.
It’s not easy to bring so many of them so quickly, not to mention the cost in the aura, which is massive. The blades moved and clashed against the bolts, destroying them.
The monster roared angrily and flapped its wings, but soon found me in front of it with my blade coming toward it.
I am very fast; Dominion Surge is an incredible skill. It becomes even faster after my physical strength is enhanced by the Might of Harmony and Sap Pulse, along with pushing aura into it.
I would have been even faster if I didn’t have to depend on Zela to stand in the sky.
Roar!
The monster roared angrily and swiped its claw, filled with dense lightning.
Just as it was about to clash against me, Bark Shield appeared. This time, its claw tore through it, but found another one behind it, which it nearly destroyed.
Destroying the Bark Shield is very hard; until now, there have been only two people who have managed to do it.
This beast is now the third one.
It roared angrily and flapped its wings, but once more, it found me in front of me, with cyan blades shooting toward it.
It destroyed them with its lightning before turning to me. Now, the anger in its eyes is bubbling, but beneath it, there is a layer of reason.
It roared, and massive lightning enveloped its whole body before transforming into three large pillars of lightning.
They shot toward me, with it coming from behind.
‘Ah, it understands,’ I thought. Without killing me, it could not help its friends.
So, it is focusing on killing me, and I am scared. These lightning pillars are powerful, more potent than the one that had attacked me earlier, not to mention, there are three of them.
I am scared, but I will have to do it; the longer the horde stays, the more people will die.
Nine cyan blades appeared in groups of three, and in them, I pushed the power of dissolution, as I had never done before, and shot them toward the pillars.
A moment later, the nine blades clashed against massive lightning pillars.
Creating a shockwave powerful enough to push even a Lv. 40 back.
The aura blades, with the power of dissolution, tore through it, disintegrating the pillars, but at the same time, they lost their power. In the end, nothing had remained of them or the pillars.
That is just a preview, as the real attack came right behind it. The monster was covered in lightning.
Its massive claw appeared in front of me, and Bark Shield stopped it. As it touched it, it was distorted; the second one was right behind it, and it was destroyed as well, but it saw a third one.
Hun!
It was just clashing against it when I felt all the hair on my body stand up, and without hesitation, I leaped back with all my strength!
Rip!
A ripping sound rang out, and a large cut appeared in my waist where I pushed all the power of Sap Pulse and Might of Harmony to stop the lightning from burning me alive.
When I learned about the monster, I gathered as much information as possible, but it seemed I did not receive all there was to know.
I did not know its wing could do this; move at such an angle and that fast. It was a good thing, I was vigilant and had excellent reflexes, or the wing would have torn me in two.
I was healing from an injury when I heard the roar, and I saw a massive lightning blast coming toward me, along with lightning bolts and the monster itself.
I wanted to run away, but I didn’t move from my spot.
If I did, it might have gone to save the two leaders, and I don’t want that when Ignatius is so close to killing them. One is already running away.
So, I gritted my teeth and pushed the aura into fractals, forming the twenty-eight blades of aura.
Twenty-four had been my limit so far, but now I had pushed myself to form twenty-eight of them. It made me feel like my head is going to burst, and it’s going to get even worse.
The blades clashed, destroyed them, and sent the blast, with the monster appearing in front of me.
Once more, I summoned the Bark Shield to defend against it, and I thought it would tear them with its claws, but now, the bastard used its lightning wings to do that before attacking me with the claws.
I swung my sword, with everything I had, pushing as much aura into my skills.
The blades clashed against the claw, and surprise appeared in its eyes. I used the Iron Veil, the defensive skill I had not used until now.
Still, despite this attack being a lot more potent than before, both elementally and physically.
The massive lightning dealt by the dissolution field, for which I had to pour an enormous amount of aura, but it was a physical one, shook me, with blood coming out of my mouth, before I started to take steps back.
I used that chance to release the lightning blast and attacked me from both sides with its razor-sharp wings, and then once more came at me with the lightning-filled claws.
Six cyan blades appeared in front of me and shot toward the lightning blast.
While four Bark Shields appeared, two on either side of me to protect me from the lightning-fast wings that already reached me.
The wings crashed against my shields. They destroyed the first, but were stopped by the second; at the same time, the cyan blades dealt with the lightning blast, while my sword moved to deal with the claws.
I poured more aura into the attack, as much as I could, and even beyond.
I would rather not take the attack head-on, but I need to. Especially now, with it attacking with everything, I need to work efficiently, and using the blade is more efficient than summoning aura attacks.
My blades clashed, creating a powerful shockwave; once more, shaking me and making me bleed through all my wounds.
As it happened, another attack came from a body part that had not been used before.
The tail; it came at me finally.
It is long and pointed at the edge, covered in concentrated lightning. It is now coming to attack my head very fast. I wouldn’t be able to defend with my sword, since it is engaged with the claw for a moment.
The shield would not do, as it would tear through it, and the same would hold for every other attack.
Cyan blades appeared in front of me and went after the tail one after another. It tore through them like butter despite all the power they had and appeared in front of me.
The bark shield appeared as it did, but tore through it and found the second one, and it tore through too.
Now, the third appeared right in front of my head.
It clashed against it, and Bark Shield became pale, but it held on, filling me with relief as I rapidly took a step back, while vomiting blood.
I used the blades to reduce momentum and whittle away the elemental power, while shielding as the last defence.
I survived, but not without a cost. The bones in my hand are broken, my internals are damaged, and I am feeling a headache, which wants to split my head apart.
Not to mention the fatigue that wants me to lie down and give up.
The monsters growled in deep anger, while I smiled. The elephant is dead, now the ape remains, and it is running away, but Ignatius’s arrows are chasing it.
It won’t be long before it is killed as well.
The Tiger didn’t seem to care aside from showing its anger toward the action. Not for even a moment did its eyes leave mine; they are fully locked on me.
A moment passed, and they came again, sending lightning bolts and blasts while charging behind it.
I gripped my sword tightly and shot forward.
I cannot retreat, and staying in my place has no strategic value; it would be harmful instead. So, I might go against the monster head-on.
And I did, cyan blades appeared before me and shot forward. Dealing the lightning bolts while Bark Shield defended against the lightning blast.
My sword clashed against its claw; I tried to avoid it and go for its head, but the monster didn’t give me a chance.
We clashed while it attacked with its wings and tail, like before. I defended with Bark Shield, and, like before, its tail stopped at the third shield while I stepped back.
It’s when something happened, lightning burst out of the tail—destroying the third shield.
An alarm flashed in my heart, and I reacted immediately, pushing my sword forward with everything I had and stopping the tail. Only to be blasted by lightning and a claw coming at me, they are too close.
I brought out Bark Shield, but they tore through.
The Lightning Blast was not that powerful earlier, but now it is tearing through my shield and giving a straightforward way to the claw coming toward me.
While I was using my full strength, the monster had not.
Seeing how close it had reached me, terror spread in my heart. This could kill me.
The blast lost its power eventually, but the claw tore through my shield and reached in front of me, and in a moment, it would tear through my flesh like butter.
I was having those thoughts when shining arrows appeared in front of me and struck the claw that was coming at me once more.
‘Thank you,’ I said as the relief flooded in my heart. I would have died if he hadn’t helped me.
‘The leaders are finished, now we can focus on this bastard,’ he replied. I could feel the tiredness in his voice. Using that artifact isn’t easy, but all of us are pushing, including the monster itself.
I stopped and prepared for another attack from it, but I saw it looking at us, while its presence spread across the battlefield.
Monsters are attacking, but our people are fighting them just as intensely. Now that the leaders have died. August, Harrods, Axeseer, and the rest are attacking other monsters.
Unlike the leaders, these are not their match.
A second passed, and another before finally Voltwing roared. I prepared for the attack, but to my surprise, it remained in its place, while other monsters began to retreat.
I saw it, but I didn’t dare to believe; it took a moment to finally settle it in my heart.
It filled me with relief, but when I looked at the monster in front of me that stayed in its spot, I became cautious again. The battle isn’t over until it’s over.
It kept looking at me, unmoving. It didn’t move; even as the monsters reached the forest and began to enter, disappearing. It remained in place, lightning dancing across its body.
A minute passed and another, and another; the monsters kept disappearing into the forest, until all of them disappeared.
The only ones that remained are dead or significantly injured.
Finally, it opened its mouth and let out a massive roar, before it flapped its wings and flew across the forest, with its back toward us. As if it were not afraid of anything we could do to it.
I hate to admit it, but the monster is right. Even if two of us are together, we won’t be able to do anything about it.
“It’s over,” said Ignatius tiredly as he flew beside me. “Yes,” I replied with a sigh, while below us people cheered loudly enough to be heard through the whole Nakar.
“We have killed three leaders; I hope it will give us some break,” he said while I laughed.
It might, but it might not.
Nothing could be said when it comes to monsters, but one thing is clear: the Voltwing will attack us again, and it will be sooner rather than later.
