D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad - Chapter 2165 Mousy Moment

Chapter 2165: Chapter 2165 Mousy Moment
— Souris —
Souris stomped on the ground, hardening it as best she could… and then flopped backwards on it. Wiggles hopped over and looked at her with a tilt in his head. “Don’t give me that look Wiggles. I’m exhausted. I should’ve just stayed in the Winter area. It’s so unbelievably wet here and I keep having to use more mana then I want to use my techniques. You’d think mud would make shifting the earth easier but you’d be WRONG!”
Wiggles gave Souris a gentle pat on her head to try and calm her down as best she could… but while Thyme had been willing to allow her to take Wiggles with her instead of the twins, and she’d had quite a few days of working just with him… that didn’t mean she had a perfect understanding of what he meant.
Oh Wiggles was quite expressive when he wanted to be… but she was also pretty sure that the rabbit wanted to be a sarcastic little shit on the regular and it was impossible to tell when Wiggles was making fun of you for his own amusement unless he made it super obvious. So, Souris was unsure just how patronised to feel about the patting.
Souris sighed again, her ears twitching as she felt the phantom pain from her semi-recent injuries. She still wasn’t all that good at moving around on the mud. If anything, she was arguably getting worse. Her original strategy had relied on wasting mana to ensure that everywhere she walked she left behind platforms of stone.
Sure they were temporary and it made fighting MUCH easier but it also cost a lot of mana and she was running low on orbs. It wasn’t to the point that she was risking elimination today… but tomorrow was going to be painful if she didn’t manage to cover more ground and find more orbs about the place.
Souris let out a long sigh. “Alright thanks for trying to cheer me up Wiggles. Do you have any ideas for getting more orbs?”
Wiggles considered the question, pulling his front paw up under his chin while tapping one of his lower feet to show he was really thinking about it… and then shrugged. “Really?” Wiggles shrugged again and then gestured towards his throat. “What… do you or do you not have ideas?”
Wiggles made his best attempt at a ’sort of’ gesture and with Souris’ recent exposure got the message through. “You have some basic ideas but they’d take too long to explain because you can’t talk?” Wiggles made a ’close enough’ gesture having his front paws stop just barely short of coming together. “Ok so not quite correct… oh wait duh. Not too long, too hard to explain,”
Wiggles nodded and made the same gesture. “I’m mostly correct but not quite the whole way?” Wiggles nodded again. “Does the rest of it matter that much?” Wiggles shrugged. “Alright… well… yeah hmmm…”
Souris, figuratively, chewed on her lip as she considered the situation. She’d learnt not to actually do that a long time ago. Far too likely to result in biting through said lip if she tried. Still… no ideas were immediately flooding into her brain. Not good ones anyway. They were all simple enough that Wiggles would’ve been able to describe them.
“Alright… so… we can’t just run around. It seems like a lot of those orbs have been taken or otherwise used up and aren’t respawning. Either not as fast as they’re meant to, or they were used more recently then we think. So… just running around looking for the easy stuff isn’t really an option?” floated Souris.
Wiggles nodded. “Alright so… that’s out. We also don’t really want to do any of the more complicated things. I’ve picked up a few too many injuries because of the terrain and my armour is probably at its limits. Sure the mending charm is working but…” Wiggles and Souris both looked towards the clear chip on one of her bracers. It had been a much larger cut before but the fact that it was still there meant she’d really been stressing her enchantments. The chance that they simply broke or burnt out was getting higher. Best not to tempt that fate.
“Dammit, if only I got more armour instead of those weapons I couldn’t use…” sighed Souris. Wiggles just patted her on the shoulder again. “Yeah, yeah I know. Just like… who the heck uses battle fans? Or that weird scythe and chain thing? And I have no idea what that metal tube was. Oh, and that shield. Sure it was a shield, but that thing weighed more than I do… so…” Souris gestured up towards the ceiling.
“Alright, so… that’s not working. I guess we could try running to a different area. I don’t really remember how close we are to either side… I think we might be closer to Summer now? Maybe? If we rush over there at least we wouldn’t have to deal with the mud…” sighed Souris.
Wiggles slid across the stone platform Souris had made for a bit and then once again made the sign for something small. “Look, I get that the sand will be annoying but I’ve actually got practice moving around on that. It takes a slightly different way of doing things for it to be as effective but I’ve got practice.” Wiggles gave her a look. “I DO have practice!”
Wiggles kept staring. “Alright so most of it was during the previous round of the tournament while we were enjoying the beachside resort but I DO have some experience.” Wiggles tapped the ground with his foot and looked to the mud.
“Look I don’t know why I have so much trouble with mud alright? We’ve been in plenty of swamps before and I just… don’t get it? I dunno maybe I have like, negative affinity with water or something. It really is just a horrendous surface and you know as well as I do that I mostly just use the platform method while waiting for my mana to regenerate if I get low.
“That’s usually for the best because most swamp monsters can’t properly fight on hardened ground so it works extra well… I guess I just didn’t expect to need to move so much around a swampy mess that’s huge without me team. Then again, that’s what Thyme specialises in. Mixing things up.” Souris sighed. “The tournament is never going to be the same ever again is it?”
Wiggles shrugged and then lifted his head up into the air before taking slow, large steps. “Ah the nobles are going to try to do this again without Thyme… and depending on how quickly they admit they can admit they failed will depend on what happens to the tournament going forward. If they took too long, a bunch of people might just forget.”
Wiggles raised a single eyebrow, staring at her. “What? I can figure things out with a bit of context. I might not be able to pick up everything, but I have a brain too you know.”
Wiggles raised the other eyebrow. “Ok fine, it just seemed like the obvious thing once you implied that the nobles would get involved and cause problems. They just… CAN’T do things like Thyme can. The only ones with the strength to even try are way too busy for the tournament and I’m not sure they’d really like it if any one of them had too much control over it…
“Then again, they all seem to get along with each other. Well… maybe…” Souris sighed. Wiggles nodded and pretended to be a monkey. Hopping around and walking up on his front paws. It was exceptionally awkward to watch. “You do realise they’re not actually monkey beastkin right, and that we DO have those,”
Wiggles shrugged as if to say ’if they actually exist why haven’t I seen one?’ “Actually wait, why are you using an elven insult for them anyway? Who even taught you that? Because it certainly wasn’t Hedera.”
Wiggles looked away. Souris sighed. “Fine be that way. It’s probably not important. Well, the potential war with the humans might be important but it probably won’t happen. Surely they aren’t so stupid as to go to war with literally everyone else…”
Wiggles answered with a single raised eyebrow. “Look, ok maybe the current human royalty aren’t that smart but one of them is married to the elf king! Surely she’d stop them from being too much of an idiot right?” Wiggles nodded conceding the point, before shivering as if to imply she really would kill her brother for being a moron.
“Yeah she is a bit scary isn’t she? Some of the stories…” Souris mumbled as she pushed herself up off the floor. “Welp, guess we should keep going. Even if we don’t have any good ideas… well… we might as well get started looking.”
Wiggles paused and then tapped his foot on the ground. Souris turned back to face him and Wiggles tapped the floor a bunch while looking at it. “OH! Right, underground! Shit, ok that’s a much better idea. Let’s get the fuck away from this mud!”
