D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad - Chapter 2166 Twin Mirrors

Chapter 2166: Chapter 2166 Twin Mirrors
— Crocus? —
Crocus had decided that she hated the weather on the entire cursed island. Summer had been too hot, and too sandy. It got everywhere and chafed under her armour. It had been a place she was glad to leave behind. Even if the loot hadn’t been too bad. Autumn hadn’t been great either. It was wet and sticky. You’d think that with fire as one of her two affinities that the desert would be better… but no, as much as Autumn sucked at least she wasn’t being cooked alive.
It was weird. Sure the temperature wasn’t going to hurt her but it just FELT hot. It was probably the lack of humidity in the air that really did it. Of course, Autumn just had to prove that too much of a ’good’ thing was still bad. The rain was annoying, the mud was annoying, and that mouse girl she’d spotted was annoying. Avoiding a fight with her had been a great idea after watching the little mouse slam a giant stone slab into a monster, crushing it under the weight with a furious look on her face.
Yes, it was probably good it had been pouring rain when that had happened a few days back. It meant that the mouse wasn’t able to hear her sneaking her way past. Souris was also the only person she’d spotted in the Autumn area. For better or worse. There was of course, also the little duel she’d been trapped inside… but she’d won that fight so it was all fine.
And of course, now she was stuck in Winter. It wasn’t great. The weather still sucked… but while her affinity provided far less resistance to the heat then she’d like… it also meant that as long as she was willing to burn some mana, she could fight off the cold. It wasn’t even too bad. If she just wanted to keep a little flame close it wasn’t even costing her more than she could regenerate. Also wasn’t keeping her that warm and if she wasn’t careful the wind could put it out… but after the shit she’d already been through? Winter felt like an acceptable compromise.
Still… Crocus glanced up to the sky, noticing just how dark it was getting. *Hmm… seems I need to work out a new shelter. Don’t see any caves this time so I’ll need to get to work.* Crocus started to compact snow into tiny rectangles. From an outside view, it made no sense, and even once she’d got together enough little bricks to make a miniature igloo there was no way it would ever fit someone inside. Not even a real mouse. Of course, that’s because it was only step one of the plan.
“Timmy, copy this using the snow around us but make it so its large enough I can fit inside,” commanded Crocus… and off the little guy went. Timmy worked swiftly, quickly compacting together large snow blocks with which to build the igloo. It seemed like Timmy wanted to build up a bit of a stockpile first.
It also doubled as a way to clean up the area a bit. The snow nearby was compacted down, with the excess used to form bricks. Timmy slowly expanded the area they were working with outwards, compacting more snow into bricks as they went, stacking them up into three block high lines of snow as they worked. Crocus nodded, seeing that Timmy was making good time.
While Timmy was working on that, Crocus was scanning the area nearby. There had been a bright flash of light here not too long ago. It was why she’d come this way in the first place… but it was hard to measure distances here in Winter. It felt like the surroundings changed sometimes and based on the distance from the light pillar… it really should be right next to her current spot. At most a few metres to either side and yet there was… nothing.
In fact, before she’d stomped over the snow looked like it hadn’t been disturbed for hours, possibly days. It was mostly smooth with a few natural looking bumps just due to how the snow had collected. Perhaps buried deep there was some sort of tree or even just a rock that changed the lay of the land.
Crocus looked down as she heard the snow crunch beside her. Timmy had returned to her side. Looking backwards, Crocus smiled. This wasn’t the first time she’d used this method of ’building’ a shelter. Seemed it worked just as well the second time. The entrance did require you to crawl in but the main resting area had enough space to stand up in. “Good job,” announced Crocus as she made her way inside. No sense looking around in the dark. Whatever that light was… it wasn’t here she supposed.
— Pansy? —
Pansy had decided she could live with the sand, and the heat. Spring was still pretty hot and even underground Winter had bene freezing. Really though the real problem was the fact that Spring was FILLED with pollen. Escaping underground didn’t even really free you from it. Not only did that shit follow you in but apparently the fucking roots got in on the fucking fun as well!
Pansy wanted to burn the whole place to the damned ground and the only reason she didn’t is because then there would just be ash everywhere because of ALL THE FUCKING POLLEN and it would still probably be hell to move through. Well, that and the shitty pollen wasn’t as flammable as you’d think. Keeping a bit of fire near her face to try and burn it away had not worked. It just meant she got hot pollen in her nose and eyes instead of normal stuff. Which was just as bad as it sounded.
No, the desert was a fucking break compared to that shit. Sure the sand still tried to get everywhere but the goggles she’d purchased with those monster carcases worked just as well against the sand, and the fancy undershirt she’d found had a nice enchantment that kept it out of her mouth. Why it only kept it out of her mouth and not her eyes as well Pansy ultimately had no ideas, but it could also had a shield that stopped things that made it through her armour so she wasn’t going to toss it for that little flaw. Especially not when she acquired the goggles first.
Still, the heat wasn’t exactly enjoyable. It’s why she’d taken to the underground areas of the desert so quickly. Well, relatively. It had taken a day of searching to find a proper entrance to the underground areas. Apparently sunken pyramids are trapped filled messes but NOT entrances to the main cave system. Who would have thought? Not Pansy that’s for sure.
Now though… she was wondering what to do. Her orbs were running low, and the underground here wasn’t providing. It didn’t seem to have been picked clean, there were plenty of chests around… but no keys and few orbs. It seemed like if she wanted to find those she’d need to go back up to the surface. “I just don’t want to…” whined Pansy as she sat across from Timmy.
She was also currently roasting some monster meat on a stick. It was questionably safe but it had pissed her off enough that she’d flash fried it… and the resulting charred corpse actually smelt pretty good. So here she was, finishing off the insides a bit more just to ensure that any poison it might have had were well and truly burnt out… again. “What? Don’t judge me! I’m a growing girl I need my nutrients!”
It was also the fourth stick of monster meat she’d consumed so far. This piece had once been some of its ribs. Though the bones had needed swapping out for the stick she was currently using. Those were definitely poisonous. “Hey, don’t look at me like that. Honestly, I’m NOT going to get fat.”
Timmy continued to look at her with know change at all in their expression. Mostly because, it wasn’t really a command and the Timmys weren’t really designed to change their facial expressions. They had one, maybe two settings and could move their mouths a tiny bit. Pansy bit down on the meat hard, ripping a piece off and chewing it for a few moments before swallowing. “Ok fine, I’m just annoyed I haven’t found my sister yet. I mean, the island is huge so I guess it makes sense but like… my necklace hasn’t picked her up yet!
“That means we haven’t ONCE been in the same area. And like, what the heck am I supposed to do about that huh? Just sit here and wait for her? Because I think NOT thank you very much. Then again…” Pansy glanced around the tunnels. “It’s not too hot here… the orbs are an issue… maybe I can find someone to steal some though? Hmmm…”
