Desolate Devouring Art - Chapter 1619 - Heading to the Elven Race

Chapter 1619 – Heading to the Elven Race
Hua Feiyu unleashed his domain, wrapped the two of them inside it, and departed the Heavenly Dao Society with them.
Liu Wuxie poured nearly all his strength into resisting the inner demon, leaving him unable to mobilize any immortal energy for travel.
The Elven Race lived along the border of the Indigo Bamboo Astral Domain. They spent half a day in transit before they finally reached the planet.
The moment she returned home, Vanya was overcome with emotions. It had been more than a year since she had last come home.
The Elven Race’s planet spanned vast distances. Though the Elven Race was not a major clan, aside from the light lineage that Vanya belonged to, a dark lineage also resided on the planet, cultivating dark magic.
With Vanya guiding the way, the trio moved quickly and entered the region where the Light Elven Race lived.
As soon as word spread that Vanya had returned, the entire place erupted into an uproar. Back then, they had left Vanya beside Liu Wuxie so she could learn his magical knowledge, and in just over a year, Vanya’s cultivation had leapt from the Primal Origin Realm to the Heaven Gaze Realm. They could only describe that breakthrough speed as anything but terrifying.
When the trio stepped into the main hall, every elder of the light lineage came out, and their matriarch was a woman.
“Mother!” Vanya said, bowing the instant she entered the main hall.
As the Elven Race’s saintress and Vandore’s descendant, Vanya carried the purest bloodline in her veins.
“Greetings, Matriarch,” Liu Wuxie and Hua Feiyu said as they cupped their fists together.
The Elven Race’s matriarch turned her gaze to Liu Wuxie. The Elven Race had already heard what Liu Wuxie had done in the Laman Astral Domain, and respect filled their eyes when they looked at him.
“Please, have a seat,” the matriarch gestured.
After she greeted her mother, Vanya stepped back and took her place behind Liu Wuxie. Her action startled every elf in the main hall, as they could see the affection and worry burning in the saintress’s eyes when she looked at Liu Wuxie.
“Matriarch, I’ll be honest with you. We came today to ask for help.” Hua Feiyu explained without wasting time.
“Sect Master Hua, please go ahead. We will help as long as it’s within our power,” the Elven Race’s matriarch said. After the Myriad Race Ceremony, the Elven Race had allied with the Heavenly Dragon Sect, and with Vanya cultivating in the Heavenly Dao Society, the two sides could almost call themselves one family now.
Vanya spoke before Hua Feiyu could state their purpose. “Mother, Young Master Liu is suffering from the power of the inner demon, and only our Elven Race’s Heart-Calming Mantra can help him.”
“Power of the inner demon?!” The Elven Race’s matriarch said as her eyes narrowed. She had already noticed the black miasma on Liu Wuxie’s face, but she assumed black magic had corroded him.
“Mother, we can’t afford to waste time. We have to save Young Master Liu first!” Vanya said, urgency sharpening her voice. She didn’t call Liu Wuxie “husband” because the Elven Race had yet to learn about her relationship with him.
“Let me take a look at it first.”
The matriarch walked over and placed her hand on Liu Wuxie’s shoulder. She released gentle magic that burrowed into his body, probing his condition.
“What a terrifying inner demon’s power! Who cast the inner demon on you?” she asked. It clearly was stronger than a quasi-immortal’s strength.
“The Immortal Slaughter Palace’s Immortal Realm ancestor,” Liu Wuxie said with a wry smile.
“I see…” the matriarch said, nodding once. Liu Wuxie had become the first to survive an immortal’s attack.
The instant Liu Wuxie answered, shock flashed across the faces of every Elven Race elder present.
“Mother, is there a way to save Young Master Liu?” Vanya asked.
At that moment, she cared about nothing else and only wanted to know whether she could save her husband.
“It won’t be easy. Our Elven Race’s Heart-Calming Mantra can only dissolve a portion of his inner demon. After all, his inner demon contains the will of an immortal. We can’t remove it entirely, unless…” the matriarch said, then halted and refused to finish.
Everyone in the main hall waited in anticipation for her to finish her sentence.
“Unless what?” Hua Feiyu finally asked as he rose to his feet.
“It’s a long story. I’ll help reduce Young Master Liu’s suffering first,” the matriarch said, shaking her head. She couldn’t explain it in a sentence or two.
She led Liu Wuxie to a lotus platform. Several elders accompanied them and began chanting strange incantations with grave expressions. The incantations condensed into a rune and burrowed into Liu Wuxie’s body, binding the inner demon in shackles.
The black miasma across Liu Wuxie’s face thinned visibly, no longer as severe as before. The Heart-Calming Mantra truly carried enough power to suppress the inner demon, yet it only sealed it temporarily instead of erasing it.
After about an hour, the matriarch finally stopped, sealing the inner demon away. Liu Wuxie’s complexion returned to normal.
“Thank you!” Liu Wuxie said as he stood, then bowed to the matriarch and the elders who helped him. Without the Heart-Calming Mantra, the inner demon would soon have reached the depths of the Heavenly Dao Book.
“We have only suppressed it for the time being. Once the time passes, it will rebound even stronger than before,” the matriarch warned, helplessness clearly visible in her eyes.
“Mother, what should we do then? I don’t want Young Master Liu to die!” Vanya said, clinging to her mother’s arm and begging her to save Liu Wuxie.
“Matriarch, is there any other solution?” Hua Feiyu asked. He had caught the hidden meaning in her earlier words and knew another path existed, even if it was harder.
“There’s a way, but it won’t be easy,” the matriarch said with a sigh, then guided everyone back to the main hall.
“What method?” Hua Feiyu asked, already resolved to save Liu Wuxie even if he had to pluck stars from the sky.
“If it’s too troublesome, forget it. I don’t want to implicate anyone in my trouble,” Liu Wuxie said. He could see the matriarch’s difficulties and refused to force the Elven Race into a corner for his sake.
“To be honest, the Heart-Calming Mantra is divided into two chapters. Our light lineage holds the first half, while the dark lineage possesses the second half. Only if the two chapters are combined can we dissolve the inner demon in your heart,” the matriarch said with a deep sigh.
The elders of the Elven Race all fell silent at once. The light and dark lineages had fought for over a thousand years because their cultivation philosophies diverged. That feud had turned them into mortal enemies who rarely associated with each other. When they encountered one another, conflict often erupted on the spot.
Even if their hatred didn’t reach the catastrophic level of the Black Crow Clan and the Spirit Clan, it came close.
“I’ll make a trip over,” Hua Feiyu said, rising at once. He would personally go to the Dark Elves and ask for the second chapter, no matter the price.
Before Liu Wuxie or the matriarch could speak, Hua Feiyu vanished.
As she watched Hua Feiyu disappear, the matriarch let out a long sigh.
“Young Master, I believe you will get better!” Vanya said, standing behind Liu Wuxie and trying to comfort him.
The matriarch watched it all and grew suspicious the moment she saw her daughter’s tenderness.
“Young Master Liu, you’ve traveled far. I’ll make arrangements for you to rest,” she said. She then had someone escort Liu Wuxie out, as she waited for Hua Feiyu’s return before they made their next move.
When Liu Wuxie entered the courtyard, Vanya tried to remain behind to care for him, but her mother pulled her away.
“Mother, I want to stay and take care of him,” Vanya insisted, shaking off her mother’s arm the moment they stepped into the courtyard.
“Tell me, how far have you gone with him?” the matriarch asked. Anyone could see that Vanya’s relationship with Liu Wuxie ran far deeper than it should have.
As the Elven Race’s saintress, fate marked Vanya to inherit the Elven Race’s lineage, so every step she took naturally drew attention.
“I already belong to him,” Vanya said, lifting her chin and meeting her mother’s eyes. The Elves didn’t hide their feelings once they fell for someone.
“You…” the matriarch said, anger rising before it faltered. Vanya was her only daughter, and she had personally agreed to let Vanya remain by Liu Wuxie’s side. She couldn’t deny her own share of responsibility.
“Do you know that he has several wives?” the matriarch asked. She needed to know what her daughter truly wanted.
“I know, and we get along well. They all treat me well,” Vanya said, and she showed no grievance at all. She looked happy, and she didn’t fake it.
“Don’t mention this to the other clansmen for now. You go rest, and I’ll make arrangements for others to take care of him,” the matriarch said, forbidding Vanya from seeing Liu Wuxie for the next few days.
The clansmen already sensed the saintress shared an unusual bond with Liu Wuxie, but they still didn’t know they had already slept together.
Among the Elven Race, humans marrying in wasn’t unheard of, yet the saintress’s marriage was far more important matter.
Liu Wuxie sat alone in the courtyard and lifted his gaze to the stars overhead. The Elven Race lived in peace, and no scars of battle marred this planet. Life thrived everywhere the eye could see.
As the hours dragged on without word, worry slowly gnawed at Liu Wuxie.
“Did the master run into danger with the Dark Elves?” Liu Wuxie wondered.
His master stood at the Quasi-Immortal Realm, and Liu Wuxie believed the Dark Elves couldn’t imprison him.
“Tian Can, you make a trip to the Dark Elves’ territory,” Liu Wuxie said, sending Tian Can to investigate.
Tian Can turned into a streak of light and vanished into the sky.
Deep into the night, Hua Feiyu still hadn’t returned, and Tian Can remained missing as well. Only then did Liu Wuxie grasp how serious the situation had become. He didn’t hesitate as he went straight to the Elven Race’s matriarch in the middle of the night.
“Young Master Liu, what’s the matter?” the matriarch asked.
“I suspect that the Dark Elves have imprisoned my master. I need more information on them,” Liu Wuxie said, stating his purpose plainly. Only an immortal could imprison a quasi-immortal.
“It started ten thousand years ago,” the Elven Race’s matriarch said, her gaze drifting into the distance.
“Just give me the main details,” Liu Wuxie said. He had no time to listen to a full tale while his master was in danger.
Liu Wuxie could still sense Tian Can’s aura, meaning his master was fine. But why hadn’t he returned yet.
“Tens of thousands of years ago, the Elven Race gave birth to two prodigies. They’re Vandore and Makuvert. They both took magic to an entirely new height,” the matriarch said, her voice slow and heavy.
