Desolate Devouring Art - Chapter 1620 - Dark Curse

Chapter 1620 – Dark Curse
Liu Wuxie narrowed his eyes when he heard the two names. He didn’t know Makuvert, but he knew Vandore as one of his closest friends, and even he couldn’t help admiring Vandore’s magic.
In the past, the two of them had exchanged ideas for a long time, and Liu Wuxie had learned a great deal about magic from his friend. He also already knew that Vandore was the Elven Race’s ancestor.
“What happened after that?” Liu Wuxie asked, keeping his tone even. He didn’t reveal that he knew Vandore and waited for the matriarch to continue.
“They were both prodigies. Not only did they restore many ancient magical spells, but they also created countless new ones. But their paths eventually diverged as Vandore went on to pursue light magic, while Makuvert went on to pursue dark magic.”
“Why can’t light and dark coexist?” Liu Wuxie asked, genuinely unable to understand.
At first, their differences never caused trouble, and they chose to research in different directions. Yet after the two ancestors vanished, conflict gradually took root between the factions, and that friction eventually grew into the situation that exists today, leaving only old records behind.
“How is the dark lineage’s temperament?” Liu Wuxie asked. He had heard that many elves who cultivated dark magic would slowly become violent and bloodthirsty.
Back then, Vandore had advised Makuvert more than once, warning him not to pursue dark magic any further. Makuvert, however, valued the offensive power of dark magic because it surpassed what light magic could unleash.
“They’re normal in temperament, but they prefer to stay in darkness and don’t like to interact with others,” the matriarch said. The two lineages had clashed before, but they had never escalated into a full-scale war.
“It has already been more than six hours, and I fear they might have imprisoned my master. I plan to make a trip over,” Liu Wuxie said, rising as soon as he felt he had learned enough about them.
“Dark Curses may have bound your master,” the matriarch said as she stood as well. She made it clear that she had already guessed as much, even if she hadn’t wanted to say it earlier.
“Dark Curses?” Liu Wuxie said, his brows knitting together. The name alone carried enough weight to send a chill down one’s spine.
“It’s a form of black magic created by Makuvert. It can bind a person’s soul, and can’t be undone easily,” the matriarch explained. The Elven Race’s overall strength wasn’t overwhelming, but no one had dared to invade their planet for countless years.
That fact alone proved that both the light and dark lineages possessed extraordinary means, because small races were often preyed upon by stronger forces.
“Is there a solution?” Liu Wuxie asked, urgency pressing into every word.
“It is said that Vandore once left a countermeasure to break the Dark Curse, but time has already swallowed the incantation. No one knows it anymore,” the matriarch said, helplessness flickering across her face.
The Dark Curse stood as the dark lineage’s strongest spell, and even the light lineage held no answer for it, much less a human.
Liu Wuxie closed his eyes and began replaying every conversation he had ever had with Vandore. He rebuilt every word, every pause, and every expression in his mind, but no matter how he searched from beginning to end, Vandore had never mentioned Dark Curses.
Then Liu Wuxie’s eyes snapped open as his attention fixed on Vandore’s arm. He reconstructed those memories again through his soul sea, forcing the scene to replay with sharper clarity.
“Matriarch, do you know this rune?” Liu Wuxie asked, swiping his finger through the air and drawing a bizarre rune that matched the one engraved on Vandore’s arm.
“How do you know this rune?” the matriarch asked, shock flashing across her face. That rune represented a secret of the Elven Race, and she couldn’t understand how Liu Wuxie knew it.
“Don’t ask how I learned it. Matriarch, do you know the origin and usage of this rune?” Liu Wuxie asked, refusing to explain further. He couldn’t reveal everything to her.
The Elven Race already knew Liu Wuxie had encountered Vandore once, but they didn’t know the exact details. During the Myriad Race Ceremony, Liu Wuxie had told Vanya that Vandore had taught him magic, and that was the reason the Elven Race had agreed to let Vanya remain at his side.
“It holds countless secrets, but even I don’t know the specifics,” the matriarch said, her expression heavy with helplessness. The rune had vanished alongside their ancestor.
Silence settled across the hall, and neither of them spoke for a long moment.
“We don’t have time to wait, and I need to make a trip to the dark lineage now,” Liu Wuxie said, forcing himself to set the rune aside and treating it like nothing more than a coincidence.
Hua Feiyu had come to the Elven Race because of him, and he wouldn’t be able to face the Heavenly Dragon Sect if anything happened to his master. If someone could imprison a quasi-immortal, then another quasi-immortal had to be involved.
With a flash, Liu Wuxie disappeared from the main hall before the matriarch could stop him.
For now, they had only suppressed the inner demon, and Liu Wuxie still needed the second chapter of the Heart-Calming Mantra to resolve it completely.
Halfway through his flight, he sensed Tian Can.
“Tian Can, what happened? Where’s my master?” Liu Wuxie asked, rushing to meet Tian Can the instant he sensed him.
“Sect Master Hua fell into the Dark Elve’s trap,” Tian Can said.
“He fell into a trap?” Liu Wuxie said, his gaze turning grim. Suspicion had already formed in his mind because, with his master’s strength, how could the dark lineage possibly imprison him? Liu Wuxie remained confident that only an immortal could defeat Hua Feiyu outright, and yet the sect master of a superpower had still ended up trapped.
“Can you be more specific?” Liu Wuxie asked, tightening his voice.
“After Sect Master Hua arrived in the Dark Elve’s territory, he stated his purpose to borrow the second chapter of the Heart-Calming Mantra. The dark lineage’s patriarch agreed to it, but under the condition that Sect Master Hua would enter a place and wait. Sect Master Hua didn’t have a choice but to borrow the second chapter and comply, but the dark lineage performed a mysterious magic that trapped him in a cage,” Tian Can reported.
He had seized someone from the dark lineage to extract information, but hadn’t dared to press deeper for more information.
Liu Wuxie clenched his fists as his eyes hardened. His master had stepped into danger for his sake.
“Damn it! Let’s go to the dark lineage!” Liu Wuxie growled. If anything happened to his master, guilt would follow him for the rest of his life.
At the same time, the light lineage began mobilizing its forces, bracing for an inevitable clash. They knew the dark lineage would never release Hua Feiyu easily.
After the matriarch learned that her daughter had become Liu Wuxie’s woman, she also refused to remain idle. She gathered several experts and flew toward the dark lineage, though she still held back from mobilizing the entire force.
After they crossed several mountain ranges, the view widened. Liu Wuxie and Tian Can saw a broad stretch of buildings ahead. It was the Dark Elves’ settlement.
Liu Wuxie didn’t bother concealing his identity. The instant he appeared, he released a powerful aura outward and announced his arrival.
Not long after, two black figures flew toward Liu Wuxie, and he recognized them at once. It was Andaru and his sister. They had performed the Siren’s Perish Song during the Myriad Race Ceremony, and Liu Wuxie had countered it with the Doom Tempest.
He had never seen them again after that, as they had returned to the clan and entered seclusion. However, their cultivation hadn’t risen anywhere near as quickly as Liu Wuxie’s. Even so, they had reached the Earth Immortal Realm, and their magical talent had become hundreds of times stronger than before.
“Liu Wuxie, why have you come to our Elven Star?” Andaru asked, his tone measured.
Both lineages came from the Elven Race, but they had split into light and dark factions. The light lineage wore white, the dark lineage wore black, and even the wands in their hands carried a white or pitch-black sheen.
“Take me to your patriarch,” Liu Wuxie said, his face set. He still didn’t attack them because with his current strength, he could crush them like ants whenever he wished.
“You’re here to save your master, aren’t you?” Andaru asked, a faint smile tugging at his mouth.
Only a handful of people in the dark lineage knew they had imprisoned Hua Feiyu.
Andaru served as the dark lineage’s saint, with a status similar to Vanya’s, so it wasn’t surprising that he knew Hua Feiyu had fallen into a trap.
“Does your clan plan to wage war against the Heavenly Dragon Sect and the Heavenly Dao Society?” Liu Wuxie snapped.
The Dark Elves might have imprisoned Hua Feiyu, but Liu Wuxie remained confident they wouldn’t dare harm his master. If Hua Feiyu lost even a single strand of hair, the Heavenly Dragon Sect and the Heavenly Dao Society would arrive in force and wipe them out. Even with Dark Curses, the dark lineage couldn’t withstand a war of that scale, so Liu Wuxie didn’t fear for Hua Feiyu’s life.
“How dare you?!” Andaru’s younger sister snapped. She waved her hand, and a terrifying surge of magic crashed toward Liu Wuxie.
Liu Wuxie didn’t move at all. Instead, he turned his gaze to Tian Can, silently ordering him to teach them a lesson for their impudence.
Tian Can struck in an instant, releasing the aura of the Quasi-Immortal Realm and shredding the incoming magic like paper. Even powerful magic became harmless before absolute strength.
Andaru and his sister narrowed their eyes. They clearly hadn’t expected Liu Wuxie to bring a quasi-immortal with him.
Tian Can didn’t stop there, and he stepped forward, ready to punish the siblings for disrespecting his master.
“Hold on! Our patriarch told us to wait for you here!” Andaru yelled.
Liu Wuxie lifted his hand, and Tian Can returned to Liu Wuxie’s side.
Since the siblings had been waiting for Liu Wuxie from the beginning, the Dark Elves had clearly anticipated his arrival.
The Dark Elves seemed to despise the light itself. Their settlement even sat behind several mountains that blocked what little brightness tried to spill over.
The siblings led Liu Wuxie and Tian Can through the settlement toward the main hall. Many elders of the dark lineage sat within, including the patriarch.
Given Liu Wuxie’s current fame, no race dared belittle him. What had happened to the Immortal Slaughter Palace still hung fresh in everyone’s memory, and their suffering stood as the price of provoking him.
The Divine Alchemy Sect had already fallen, and even their sect master had died.
When Liu Wuxie and Tian Can stepped into the main hall behind the Andaru siblings, a powerful wave of dark energy swept straight toward Liu Wuxie.
