Chapter 612: A Gift That Will Be Remembered For Life
’Huh?’ Alex blinked.
From what he remembered, he had gone back to the clock tower and had been surprised by Lulu, only to find out Latifa had successfully raised her rank to Rank 4. Then, he had lost consciousness.
Now, although he regained his consciousness, he might not be awake.
Noelle, his Guild Master, was currently seated on his lap. Her head leaned against his shoulder, and her arms were tightly wrapped around his waist.
In the background, waves crashed against the shore, reminding him of that one time she had taken him on her personal yacht. The two of them had been alone. Frankly speaking, it was one of the most precious memories of his life back on earth.
It had been a while since he last dreamed of her, so Alex didn’t hesitate and reciprocated the young lady’s hug. Although he knew this was a dream, her scent, softness, and warmth all felt so real.
Alex felt his chest ache at the thought that he would never see her again. Had he known, he would’ve confessed his feelings to her back on Earth. Had he been more courageous, perhaps things would’ve ended up differently between the two of them, and he wouldn’t be regretting now.
Neither of them spoke. With just their actions, they unanimously agreed to savor this moment to the fullest.
Suddenly, Alex felt someone lightly patting his head, as if telling him he had done his best. Noelle had often done this while visiting Alex after a failed World Boss Raid. She had known better than anyone how hard he was on himself. Sometimes, he’d blame himself for failing to hold the line longer, leading to a guild wipe.
Her gentle encouragement reminded Alex of what had happened in the Shadow Forest. Although he had done his best, he was unable to tank a single strike from Reverse Alex, who had easily overpowered him.
As if reading his mind, the young lady in his arms spoke, making Alex fall in love with her all over again.
“It’s fine to fail,” Noelle said softly. “It’s fine to make mistakes. The important thing is to learn from these mistakes and move forward. You did everything you could, so you should hold your head up high.”
Alex didn’t reply. He simply hugged her tighter, badly missing her voice and the comfort she gave him whenever he felt sad.
“You’re still feeling down?” Noelle asked as she continued to pat Alex’s head. “Your birthday is coming soon. I have prepared a special gift for you, so look forward to it.”
The only gift Alex wanted from Noelle was her presence by his side during his birthday. But this was an impossible wish.
He could only meet her in his dreams.
Noelle gently cupped his face and made him look her in the eyes. Alex loved looking at Noelle’s face. Not only was she beautiful, but her eyes were also very expressive.
And right now, they held a hint of mischief.
It didn’t matter whether her idea was good or bad. Noelle would do it regardless of what Alex thought.
“Here’s a kiss to cheer you up,” Noelle said before kissing Alex’s left cheek.
“More.” Alex looked at her affectionately. “Kiss me more.”
“One more kiss to make you feel better.” Noelle kissed his right cheek.
“One more time,” Alex asked.
“What a spoiled child you are.” Noelle shook her head helplessly. “Fine. You win.”
Alex thought the young lady would kiss his forehead next, knowing the usual pattern she followed whenever they cuddled together.
But to his surprise, her soft lips pressed on his own, making him subconsciously close his eyes.
The weakness Alex felt slowly faded away. He could feel strength returning to his body, as if Noelle’s kiss was some powerful healing potion that cured all ailments and injuries.
When their kiss finally ended, the young lady looked smug before asking him a question.
“Do you feel better now?”
“Much better. Thank you, Noelle.”
Noelle poked Alex’s nose before standing up. She spun once, and the dress she wore changed into temple clothes she often wore during special events.
In the past, she had told Alex about her family’s shaman lineage. This was why she had performed a fan dance in public at least thrice a year to ward off bad luck.
Her performance had been quite popular, attracting many tourists to her family’s temple.
Of course, Alex and his guildmates had also attended those festivals to support their guildmaster.
“I’ll dance for you to make you feel better,” Noelle said with a smile. “And also to ward off four thieving foxes trying to enter this dreamworld by force.”
“Um?” Alex blinked, curious about Noelle’s last words, which he failed to hear since she had lowered her volume.
For a brief moment, he even thought he heard Lumi’s and Latifa’s voices in the background.
“We’re almost in! Just a little more… Oh no! The barrier is fixing itself!”
“Why is this happening? I only want to apologize to Alex in his dream. Who the hell set up this barrier?!”
But Alex’s attention was now drawn to Noelle’s dancing.
She flicked the hand holding the fan. Unbeknownst to Alex, she was reinforcing something so that it wouldn’t break.
Her dance was indeed very graceful, and she always wore a smile when she did it. This made Alex feel a little better as his worries left him one by one.
Alex was not aware that Noelle’s dance was slowly fixing the damage that his Sea of Consciousness had received from Reverse Alex’s spiritual flames. She was reactivating his own body’s regeneration abilities.
When the dance ended, Noelle once again sat on Alex’s lap and asked him if he was feeling better.
“I feel much better now,” Alex said. “Did you use some spell to heal my body?”
“Something like that,” Noelle replied. “So you better look forward to my birthday gift to you. I’ll make sure that you will remember it for the rest of your life.”
The young lady even caressed Alex’s chest before giving him a wink.
It took him everything he had to rein in his emotions because if he hadn’t, something might have risen… and it would not have been the Shield Hero.
