- Chapter 671: The Ruler Of The Mistral Weave Forest [Part 1]

“Are you ready, Dim Dim?”
“Dim Dim!”
“Let’s go.”
Alex and Dim Dim left the dormitory room together. The little bun was perched on Alex’s head.
Dim Dim had its gangster sunglasses on, and so did Alex.
The people they passed along the way gave them weird looks, wondering what kind of trouble the two were up to today.
When they arrived at the common room, Lavinia couldn’t help but giggle after seeing Alex’s and Dim Dim’s get up.
She knew her lover would meet Latifa’s mother today, but seeing his current get-up made her wonder whether the Celestial Fox would have a good impression of him or not.
“Be careful, okay?” Lavinia said as she gave Alex a hug, which the latter returned without hesitation.
This wasn’t the first time they showed affection in public, so those in the common room were already used to such scenes.
In fact, after Alex and Lavinia had finished hugging each other, Vaan playfully opened “her” arms wide and waited for Alex to hug her as well.
When he played along and hugged her back, several of the guys clicked their tongues in annoyance.
Alex wanted to tell them that they shouldn’t feel that way because Vaan was one of his “bros.” Though that was still a secret, and he also had no plan to correct their misunderstandings. In any case, he decided to let them be. At least for now.
After that short exchange, Alex headed in the direction of the Mistral Weave Forest.
Latifa told him that she and her Alters would be waiting for him at the entrance.
But when he arrived, Latifa almost fainted after seeing the two gangsters, who both looked very confident with their get-up.
“Lotte, please…” Latifa covered her face with both hands out of embarrassment, while her Alter approached Alex and Dim Dim, confiscating their gangster sunglasses.
“Nooooo!” the little bun cried out pitifully, reaching out its little stubby hands at its confiscated gangster sunglasses.
Seeing the teary-eyed Dim Dim, Lotte decided to return the gangster sunglasses. Though, in the process, she asked it to put it away and store it safely.
Dim Dim nodded and returned its gangster sunglasses back to its dimensional storage, which made Alex lightly scratch his cheek.
“Was it that bad?” Alex asked.
“What do you think?” Latifa placed her hands on her hips, showing a rare look of exasperation.
Alex could only smile wryly. He genuinely thought Dim Dim’s suggestion to wear gangster sunglasses would work.
However, it seemed that Latifa didn’t agree with their fashion sense.
“Okay, let’s go,” Alex said with a smile before giving Latifa a hug to make up for the earlier setback.
Latifa sighed in response but also hugged Alex back, telling him that he almost gave her a heart attack earlier.
The young man glanced at Lumi, as if asking for her opinion. The young lady only raised her hands in return, forming an “X”, which meant she agreed with Latifa.
Lotte, however, gave the “OK” sign, while Lulu only winked at him.
Clearly, they didn’t all share the same opinion when it came to Alex’s get-up earlier.
When Latifa finally calmed down, she reached out to hold Alex’s hand, and pulled him towards the entrance of the forest.
To his surprise, he soon found his feet slowly lifting off from the ground. A moment later, they were flying over a meter above the ground, speeding as they headed deeper inside the forest.
’This might be Lulu’s doing,’ Alex thought before glancing at the mature version of Latifa, who was at the rear in their formation.
Seeing his gaze, Lulu gave him a mischievous smile, which confirmed his suspicions.
To Alex’s surprise, they didn’t encounter any monsters along the way.
This might be due to Latifa’s mother making sure that her daughter wouldn’t be attacked on her return trip back home.
While she did visit her mother once or twice a month, this was the first time Alex was accompanying her for a house visit.
Surprisingly, it only took them ten minutes to reach their destination. Though, it would have taken at least a few hours if they were to traverse the forest on foot.
During their journey, Latifa couldn’t help but feel anxious because she didn’t know how her mother would react after seeing Alex.
She just hoped that her mother would accept her lover and give them her blessing to be together.
“Welcome home, Latifa.”
A voice smooth as silk reached Alex’s ears.
In response, the young man gazed at the branch of the biggest tree in the forest that stood at least two hundred meters tall.
A beautiful woman sat upon one of the branches, holding a delicate pipe between her fingers. She inhaled softly, and a moment later, released a veil of smoke that drifted and coiled like mist around her.
The tree she was sitting on wasn’t the World Tree of the Elves. Yet, it contained rich spiritual power that was coveted by many strong monsters in the forest.
Unfortunately, they were no match against Latifa’s mother, so none of them dared to go near her territory.
“I’m back, Mother,” Latifa said, looking nervous. “I brought Alex with me.”
“I can see that,” Latifa’s mother, Evarisse, replied with a smile. “The Singing King, the Blackmail King, the president of the Endless Horizon Club, and a well-known womanizer in the academy. You are without a doubt the worst student in the academy whom I have heard of.”
“But you have heard of me,” Alex replied, feeling a little proud of his titles and achievements.
“Ahem!” Dim Dim raised its body proudly, giving its support to Alex.
Latifa wanted to pinch Alex’s waist to remind him that he was talking to a Rank 8 Celestial Fox, which meant he should act with humility and modesty.
“You are quite bold, but aren’t you a little bit too bold?” Evarisse arched an eyebrow. “I don’t know if you are just fearless or have no idea who you are facing right now.”
“Of course, I know about you, Lady Evarisse,” Alex answered. “You are the ruler of the Mistral Weave Forest, and a Rank 8 Celestial Fox. You’re an entity that commands respect from every creature of this forest.”
“At least you know who you are talking to. I just wonder. Why do you still act so casually?” Evarisse asked. “Am I not intimidating enough in your eyes? Should I take on my Fox Form to make you speak more humbly?”
“If you want me to speak more humbly, then I shall do so, Lady Evarisse,” Alex replied, speaking in the most humble and respectful tone that he could muster. “But is this really what you want, Lady Evarisse?
“I’m sure you already know about my personality. The reason I am speaking so casually is because I don’t want to create false impressions.”
The young man patted his chest while looking up at the beautiful woman on the tree branch.
What Evarisse hated the most were liars. With that said, if Alex were to act differently than he usually did, she would think that he was some kind of con artist who was only playing with her daughter’s feelings.
“Very well. I will acknowledge that you have guts.” Evarisse nodded. “However, that’s not enough for me to accept you as my daughter’s mate.”
’Here it comes,’ Alex thought.
He had already expected that Evarisse would give him a test because that was how it usually went in the game.
However, her tests were random.
In fact, those who had played Latifa’s route had recorded at least 99 different trials, their difficulty varying from Easy to Hell Mode.
Of course, Alex had come prepared, knowing that his default difficulty was Hell Mode.
But the moment Evarisse told him what trial he had to face, the young man couldn’t help but wonder if the Celestial Fox was pranking him.
The test was neither hard, nor easy.
If anything, it was simply a test meant to humiliate Alex.
Something that was not listed in the 99 trials that was recorded in the Evarisse Act of Latifa’s route.
