First Immortal of the Sword - Chapter 2768 - The Majesty of Those Red Robes

Chapter 2768 – The Majesty of Those Red Robes
The new arrival was dressed in billowing red robes, like a soaring fire dragon. One hand rested on the hilt of his sword, the other gently brushed his face.
Su Yi was stunned. He recognized those red robes; they’d left quite a deep impression, even.
When he first set course for the River of Destiny, he’d run into this very red-robed swordsman. The man’s every gesture was full of magnificent grace.
Even the mysterious Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep said he was unfathomable.
But what Su Yi really cared about was that the red-robed man had been close to Jiang Wuchen. The two had been like brothers, and they’d even frequented brothels together!
Su Yi wouldn’t have expected to encounter the man in red again here, outside the Huaihuang Empire.
But before Su Yi could give the matter any further thought, the man in red took action.
Clang!
Heaven and earth shook.
The distant Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan retreated explosively. Shockingly, the red-robed man had wrested Peach Blossom from his grip.
It all happened in a flash, so quick it was unbelievable!
“My good brother is only in the Unfettered Realm. Ku Xuan, as a Heavenly Sovereign, how can you bully the weak like this? Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?” The red-robed man drew his hand across Peach Blossom, and its quivering, wailing blade returned to stillness.
He looked at Ku Xuan. “And, as you know, I’m the one who sealed this sword beneath the Mountain of Bitter Rains. How dare you try to destroy it? Don’t you think your sheer disregard is too much?”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan gathered his robes and stood in midair, his aura emanating from him like tidal waves, shaking heaven and earth. The myriad Daos of creation wailed.
He looked at the red-robed man and sneered. “Lu Hongpao, when did you become a man? And you’ve even acknowledged a junior as your good brother? Don’t tell me you’ve developed a taste for younger men?”
Boom!
The red-robed man vanished.
A moment later, he appeared above Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan, raised Peach Blossom, and swung with all his might.
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s robes billowed around him, stirring up endless starlight.
Within an instant, the two clashed countless times over with unbelievable speed.
In Su Yi’s eyes, their battle transformed heaven and earth, overturning their surroundings and throwing light and shadow into chaos. Space collapsed around them.
He couldn’t see any of the details clearly.
This was a battle between Heavenly Sovereigns. It could easily affect the Will of the Heavens of an entire continent, throwing heavenly mysteries into disarray. Other cultivators couldn’t even watch such a battle.
Within the blink of an eye, the red-robed man returned to his former position, his back to Su Yi. His red robes fluttered around him.
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan landed too, his brow furrowed. His Daoist topknot had come undone, and his long hair billowed in the wind.
There was now a faint gash on his chest. Even though it healed almost instantaneously, the starlight flowing through his robes dimmed considerably.
“You were no match for me during the End of the Devastation, but a million years have passed. Why are you still so weak?” asked the man in red.
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan sneered. “You haven’t gotten any stronger either, have you, Lu Hongpao? At most…. You’re a notch stronger than me, that’s all. If we really go all out, there’s no guarantee you’ll win!”
The man in red robes just said, “Oh,” and vanished once more.
Boom!
A grand battle broke out once more. Both combatants instantly fought their way beyond the cloudy dome of heaven, where they vanished from view.
All that remained was the lingering, terrifying majesty of a Heavenly Sovereign. It was just a trace of their presence, yet it was enough to overturn heaven and earth. A long time passed before things calmed down.
Su Yi took a sip of wine. “So… she really was Lu Hongpao all along…”
Pu Xuan’s gaze was complicated. “Fellow Daoist, you hid yourself far too deeply. Why not tell me that the Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign was your sworn brother? She’s an unparalleled, famous Heavenly Sovereign. They say that over the years, she’s killed enough powerful enemies to dye the skies of the entire Eternal Heavens Domain red!”
Su Yi clamped his jaw shut. Inwardly, he was at a loss for words. How could I have known that Lu Hongpao would appear before me as a man?
And how could I have considered the possibility that a female Heavenly Sovereign like her would have frequented brothels with Jiang Wuchen?
When we first met, she even invited me to go to a brothel with her when the opportunity arose. It’s just… unreasonable!
Suddenly, Pu Xuan said, “Fellow Daoist, you’d have had means of saving that sword even if the Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign hadn’t appeared, right?”
“Mm,” said Su Yi. He didn’t explain, but the heart devil in the rusted sheath had left his mark on Peach Blossom. All he had to do was unveil it, and he’d catch Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan off guard.
Boom!
A low, thunderous boom emanated from the distant dome of heaven.
Lu Hongpao appeared beside Su Yi again and stretched languidly.
She was still in a male form, tall and elegant, her red robes billowing around her, dashing and unfettered.
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan appeared in the distance, not far away.
He showed no sign of injury whatsoever, but his smooth, jade-like face had a new, overcast quality to it.
“Lu Hongpao, don’t you think you’re taking this too seriously?” He looked at her with exasperation. “You even placed a spacetime tunnel to the River of Destiny just outside the Blue Peak Continent. Are you really planning to fight to the death?”
In his eyes, Lu Hongpao was a madwoman. Just now, they’d almost fought their way out of the Blue Peak Continent, where she used a spacetime forbidden technique to drag him to the River of Destiny for a fight to the death!
That was just too frenzied.
The Jianghu wasn’t just a place for fighting and killing. The people there had their own way of doing things.
Similarly, throughout the ages, none of the nine Heavenly Sovereigns would seek a fight to the death lightly.
That is, except for Lu Hongpao.
“Bullying my good brother is no different from bullying me. How could a fight to the death be inappropriate?” Lu Hongpao said with displeasure. “You might fear for your life, but I don’t.”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan couldn’t help but rub his brow. He felt a headache coming on. “I didn’t say anything about killing your good brother, did I? If you don’t believe me, ask him.”
“Then why seize Great Sorrow?” Lu Hongpao said with a cold laugh. “And you shamelessly compared my good brother to an ant. Are you worthy of saying such things?”
Boom!
Her robes billowed around her, like a tide of blood stirring up heaven and earth. The terrifying majesty of a Heavenly Sovereign swept forth.
She obviously planned to attack again.
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan said irritably, “My young friend, you talk some sense into her! I never tried to kill you, not here, and not in the Huaihuang Empire, either!
“As for what I said earlier? I meant every word, but I had no intention of insulting you.” He had a sour look on his face. “Besides, given my status, why would I discuss such universally acknowledged truths with an Unfettered Realm cultivator like you unless I admired you?”
“‘An Unfettered Realm cultivator like you?’ Hah! It seems you really do look down on my good brother!” said Lu Hongpao. She attacked again, Peach Blossom clanging in her grip. Her aura was even more terrifying than before.
Su Yi felt a stinging pain in his eyes, and his heart shook.
This was his first time experiencing the majesty of a Heavenly Sovereign. The gap between their cultivations was just too enormous; even if his heart could take it, his body responded instinctually to the danger.
Boom!
Two Heavenly Sovereigns clashed once more beyond the nine heavens.
To experts of their level, as enormous as the Blue Peak Continent seemed, it was ultimately incomplete. Fighting here, their hands and feet were tied. They couldn’t display their full strength.
But outside the Blue Peak Continent, it was a totally different story.
Pu Xuan sighed. “If I had a Heavenly Sovereign for a ‘good brother,’ I’d love nothing more than to mooch and live large for the rest of my life. Why bother cultivating the Dao?”
Su Yi didn’t even know what to say.
Pu Xuan suddenly looked at him strangely. “Fellow Daoist, won’t you consider accepting me as your foster son? I might not be good for much, but I’m very understanding.”
All Su Yi said in response was, “Scram!”
Pu Xuan grumbled resentfully, “What a pity. If you were my foster father, wouldn’t that make the Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign my foster uncle? Err, no, she’s a woman, so I’d best call her Auntie Red Robe…”
Suddenly, a voice resounded out of nowhere. “Who’s your auntie?”
Pu Xuan turned and saw that a red-robed figure had appeared beside him, seemingly out of nowhere. He couldn’t help but break out in cold sweats.
But this was Pu Xuan. He could naturally handle himself!
He coughed dryly, then said, “Senior, I heard that you’re my Fellow Daoist Su’s good brother. How could I possibly consider myself a member of the same generation as him in light of that? I wish to accept him as my foster father to lower my seniority as an expression of respect for both of you.”
This distorted reasoning left Lu Hongpao unwittingly stunned. “Impressive!”
Pu Xuan’s spirits soared. He hurriedly said, “I’m ashamed to accept such praise. What could I possibly have done to be worthy of it?”
Lu Hongpao couldn’t help but laugh. “I know you. You’re Jin Xuan, Jiang Wuchen’s third disciple. Not bad! You’re quite clever, and better yet, your words are quite pleasant to the ear!”
Pu Xuan was stunned. The Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign actually knows about me!?
Lu Hongpao looked at Su Yi. “You didn’t tell him that you’re actually…?”
Su Yi shook his head. Lu Hongpao instantly understood and said no more.
Off in the distance, Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan said irritably, “Are you done chatting? If so, tell me: What do you want? How can I convince you to end things here?”
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to leave, but that Lu Hongpao’s aura had been firmly locked onto him this entire time. There was no sloughing it off. It was extraordinarily troublesome, and he found it extraordinarily frustrating. He suddenly recalled what some of the other Heavenly Sovereigns said. They’d go out of their way if it meant avoiding provoking Lu Hongpao.
She was a troublesome one, and when she lost her cool, there was no reasoning with her!
That was what was happening now.
Lu Hongpao said hurriedly, “I’m not in a hurry, so why are you in such a rush? Piss me off, and I’ll just have to visit your Taiwu Sect! Even if I can’t kill you, I can surely kill your disciples and grand-disciples!”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s heart clenched. This was no empty threat; Lu Hongpao really dared to do just that!
He looked at Su Yi, an aggrieved look on his face. “My young friend, the two of us bonded through combat, did we not? One hero sympathizes with another. There’s no resentment between us. This isn’t necessary, is it?
“So why not speak up and try to dissuade our esteemed Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign?”
