Chapter 300: The truth
KEITH’S POV
I stood in the middle of Jasmine’s house as I looked for her. Obviously she wasn’t there. Feeling agitated with
What do you mean Diana Rockford?” I asked in shock.
“They said they found a woman in the Yorkshire river who identified herself as Diana Rocford.
“What?!” I asked in shock isn’t she supposed to be in hiding as hold my son.
“When was she ?” I asked.
“I’m not sure. I was only contacted moments ago. The detective is waiting for you at the hospital waiting for you to see her.
Upon arriving at the hospital I quickly
the policeman waiting for me by the entrance. Officer Dhaul. I continued walking toward the hospital entrance and he joined me walking in step with me.
“Mr Acland thank you for coming so quickly,” he started.
“What happened?” I asked him.
“About there weeks ago a group of kayakers were on the river when they came across Miss Rockford’s body washed up on the riverbank. They thought she was dead as she had a gunshot wound in her chest and wasn’t moving. When the officers got there they confirmed she was still alive and then took her to the hospital.” The officer further explained.
“Gunshot wound? Someone had tried to kill her?” I asked surprised by this revelation.
“We’re not sure of the details but it appears someone shot her in the chest. The officer working on her case tried to identify her but she had no ID on her person and no one came looking for her or reported so the police and the hospital decided it was best to wait for her to regain consciousness.
My eyebrows narrowed in confusion. I thought she was the one sending the ransom notes and keeping holding Anthony so how is it possible
“The departme—” the officer started.
“If the police were already aware of her three weeks ago, why couldn’t you identify her sooner? You knew we were looking of Diana.” I interrupted him.
“I apologise for that sir, I was about to explain. It was an issue of communication between our different units. The missing persons and the financial crimes and fraud unit which are working with you weren’t assigned to her case. That would have made the investigation into her faster. Her case was treated as an attempted homicide and handled by the general crimes unit. And unfortunately units only communicate with each other if a connection is made. They expected someone to come forward to claim her but no one did and so the identification process was slower. She has prior criminal record so they had no records to work with. Since she showed signs of recovery they thought the best decision would be to wait for to tell them who she is.”
I shook my head unsatisfied with the response. “Well maybe thats something your department should work on.” I snapped.
He shivered. “Yes, sir,” he replied. We headed straight for the elevator as the officer took me to Diana.
“She was found he department concluded that her body came from upstream close to the waterfalls. So they figure she was around there at the time she was caught.
We reached the floor her room was located and the officer took me down a long hallway. We rounded a corner and were met with a doctor standing by a door to a patient room.
“Mr Acland, Officer Dhaul?” He asked as we neared him.
“Yes we are,” Dhaul answered for the both of us.
I peaked into the room and saw the shade of familiar blonde hair and I knew it was her, though I couldn’t see her face.
“I’m sure you already know that
“Yes,” Officer Dhaul confirmed.
“Okay,” the doctor
“When did she wake up exactly?” I asked the doctor.
“Yesterday morning, sir” he confirmed.
“What has shared with you so far?” I asked wondering if she’s given any information on the situation.
“When she woke up she said she wanted to see you and that she would only speak to you. We contacted you ,” he finished off.
“Is she awake right now?” I asked. I wanted to confront her now.
“Yes a nurse just went in to see her,” he informed me.
I entered the room and looked straight at Diana lying on the bed.
She was pale her eyes were swollen and I couldn’t see her shoulder was bandaged from the sleeve of the patient gown she was dressed in.
Her eyes opened as I walked in and slowly tried to sit up.
“Keith…” she breathed out. As a smile appeared on her face.
“Keith, you came
A frown formed on my face as I wondered why she was even smiling.
“Diana, You do realise we’re not together anymore,” I reminded her.
An expression of sadness appeared in her eyes.
“Where is my son? where is Marco?” I asked her.
Her expression immediately fell at that. I shook my head. What had she expected me to do? Hug her and be happy to see her?
“If you’re here then who is holding him hostage and sending out the ransom notes. Is it Edwards girlfriend
That must have been it. They were the only three involved so if she was here then Edward’s girlfriend must be the one who’s Tony now.
“Ransom?” She asked in confusion. “Edward’s girlfriend? What are you talking about?”
“Don’t play pretend Diana. I really don’t have time for games anymore. I’ve had enough with Edward refusing to speak so I want you to tell me right now where my son
“Where is my son, Diana?” I asked her. Her eyes studied mine for a moment before a look of realisation appeared on her face. As if she just remembered something.
She scoffed. “He has him.” She blurted out.
“What are you talking about!? I already know Edward has him,” I demanded her. The only ’he was Edward who was currently in jail. “Stop stalling and just get out with it Tell me where Anthony is!”
“No I meant your brother. Kolton, has him,” she told me.
My body froze and my eyes widened.
