Chapter 302: A Deep resentment
KOLTON’S POV
FLASHBACK
I held my mum’s diamond in my hand and looked at it. I impressed by how shiny and heavy it was. My mum always got expensive stuff from my dad. He also got me gifts like the new video game I always wanted.
I was in my mums bedroom looking at her jewelry. She and my dad had gone for a date tonight so I could move around her room freely.
I heard the front door click, I knew my mum was home. If she caught me I would be in trouble. I put down the jewelry and I tried to leave her room but my parents were already coming up the stairs.
As i peeked from the bedroom closet I saw my mother and my father.
“Look my wife has found out about us. She’s not too happy and wants a divorce,” my father said. “Wants custody of Keith.”
“It’s okay Henry I’ll be here with you. We’ll go through it together,” she told him.
“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to see you for a while not until I’m done with my wife,” he told my mother.
“But Henry wait when will i see you again?” she asked him.
“I don’t know. he answered her. “But don’t worry. I’ll continue to send you money. I’ll make sure our son has a comfortable life.”
My father then walked put of the bedroom.
“Henry wait, atleast tell me when i’ll see you again” my mother said as she followed after him.
“I’m telling you not to worry,” he said.
What was that about? I wondered. I wasn’t going to see dad for a while?
Usually Dad came once or twice a week so that meant i wasn’t going to see him for some weeks?
When i heard my mum and dad go downstairs i left the closet. i left the room
“Henry please give an answer.
“Look I have to deal with something at the office, Slyvia.”
I waited by the staircase as I heard the front door close.
*****
From that day everything went downhill. The mornng went i went down for breakfast before going to school i noticed my mum hadn’t made anything fo rme to eat she wasn’t in the kitchen ike she usually was.
“Mum?” I asked looking around for her.
“What?!” I heard her voice from the lounge. I went to the lound and found her lying down on the couch. Beside her were two empty bottles of that red stuff her and Dad liked to drink together. What was it called again; wine?
“Mu-mum,” I said nervously. she never yelled at me like that before. “You haven’t made breakfast and my lunch for school…”
“Can’t you make your own food?! Aren’t you 7 years old already?” she yelled and waved her hand off. “Get out of my face!”
She wasn’t talking normally. Her movements were shaky and everything smelled like that wine. I looked down at the bottles again.
I was scared of her right now so I just said okay. I then turned away to leave the lounge.
“I hope he contacts me soon,” she heard her say nervously. I paused looked back at her and saw her eyes were closed.
I went tback to the kisten made myself breakfast. I just had some cereal and made a simple sandwich for school. That morning I walked myself to the bus stop.
When I came back from school I hoped my mum was feeling better but i was dissapointed by what I was met with. She was in the dining room this time.
She still smelled like wine and looked a mess. She looked like she had been crying all day. More wine bottles were on the table.
“He still won’t text back, or take my calls,” she complained.
I nervously looked at her. My mum was always so happy this wasn’t nomal. i hoped she would soon go back to normal. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. As the days passed she only got worse. I made my meals and took myself to the bustop for school. She still drank didn’t talk to me like she used to.
She was either screaming, crying or yelling.
“Mum are you okay?” I finally asked her at the of the week. She was as usualy on the couch in the lounge. All i saw her do was drink but never eat.
“Shut up and go to your room before I hit you with this bottle!” she yelled at me. I left her and quickly ran up stairs to my room.
******
As the weeks passed I didn’t see my father again, and my mum just kept getting worse and worse. She left the hoiuse to either withdraw cash and buy some more wine bottles before coming back home. I would steal some of the cash without her knowing and then buy food for us to eat since she wasn’t buying any.
Whenever i made food for myself i would try to leave some for her as well but she barely touched it.
“Look he’s woth another woman!” My mother yelled out hysteriacally as she turned the phone away as I ate pasta noodles by myself in the kitchen.
“Your father lied to me!” she screamed out. “He said he would leave his wife for me. That he was going to marry me!”
She then began throwing bottles in the room. the breaking noises scaring me. “That jerk!” she yelled.
I was worried so i quickly got up and left going upstairs to my room.
It was then that I realized the mother I once knew was never coming back and my father was never coming back.
*****
As the years passed my mother’s condition never improved. She completely fell apart. My father never returned but he still sent us money. I couldn’t believe he really left us alone. I learned how to take care of myself completely. I learned how to cook proper food. How to go grocery shopping. I would make meals for her that she ate very little of but i still did it for her.
