Chapter 260: Chapter 186: Charles Appears (2)
After a short rest, the Nun Puppet’s complexion turned rosy, her body brimming with rich Essence.
She began to chant a majestic Spell, and Holy Light Rune Brands materialized all around her. The brands circled her like a sky full of stars. As she extended her hand, a torrent of brilliant Rune Brands flooded into her palm. They connected and interlocked like steel gears, coalescing into a Holy Sword.
The sword was forged from solidified Rune Brands. Its blade was uneven and not particularly sharp, but the Essence Fluctuation and sacred aura it radiated were terrifying.
The Blood Royal Prince’s expression changed drastically. He felt an intense sense of crisis from the Rune Imprint Sword; a single blow from it would be enough to severely injure him!
And being severely injured in front of the Puppet Master meant a high probability of being turned into another one of his puppets, subject to his every whim!
The Blood Royal Prince, Lucius, once again launched a Spiritual Attack along the Puppet Threads while simultaneously attempting to “Twist” the Nun Puppet. But the Puppet Master was prepared this time. He distributed the Spiritual Attack among all his puppets, alleviating the pressure on himself. He then maneuvered the bronze-skinned strongman to swap places with the Nun Puppet, letting it bear the brunt of the “Twist.”
The puppet in black clothes and a black hat, now with only one arm, and the gloomy-faced Thunder Type puppet, which had a shocking claw mark across its chest, attacked again as if ignoring their pain. The former pulled a revolver—an Alchemy Tool—from his coat and fired six shots. The latter unleashed a Thunderbolt with all its might, sending a thick bolt of crackling lightning streaking toward Lucius.
Lucius, already enduring the searing heat of the “Sun” and invaded by Puppet Threads that impeded his thoughts and movements, could only flap his wings feebly to dodge.
Three of the Silver-Coated Holy Bullets from the revolver struck his body, blasting open gruesome, bloody holes. The bolt of lightning grazed past him, causing no damage.
Immediately after, the Nun Puppet finished gathering her power and slashed with her sword.
The blazing sword light illuminated everything, like a divine judgment from the heavens.
Lucius used “Twist” with all his might. After his Advancement to Tier Four, this Talent Ability had become much stronger. Although he hadn’t had enough time since his Advancement to fully master its more profound and mysterious Power, he managed to successfully distort the trajectory of the Judgment Sword Light with a desperate surge of power.
But in the next second, Lucius’s pupils dilated abruptly.
Because right behind the dazzling, blinding sword light, a burning golden meteor followed.
Just moments before, after the Nun Puppet had unleashed the Judgment Sword Light, she had lightly tossed the Rune Imprint Sword into the air and used Instant Teleportation to switch places with the bronze-skinned strongman. The strongman caught the falling Rune Imprint Sword and, with brute force, hurled it forward—trailing right behind the sword light.
Lucius had only managed to “Twist” the path of the Judgment Sword Light. By the time he realized there was a Holy Sword following it, it was too late.
PSHHHT.
Like a hot knife through butter, the searing Holy Sword easily pierced Lucius’s body. He screamed in agony, rapidly growing weak under the dual Purification of the Rune Imprint Sword and the “Sun.”
Just as the Puppet Master was about to celebrate, a searing pain shot through the Puppet Threads, making him cry out as well. Lucius’s eyes were now veiled in scarlet, a bloody mist steamed from his entire body, and numerous Blood Race glyphs surfaced on his skin—he had activated some kind of forbidden Life Burning Forbidden Technique to forcibly boost his combat power!
“ROAR!” Lucius let out a bestial roar of Anger. He tore free from a large number of Puppet Threads and, with a sudden clench of his sharp-nailed hand, “Twisted” the Sun Rune. The scorching sunlight vanished in an instant.
’Damn it, the thing I was most worried about still happened…’ the Puppet Master cursed inwardly. The last thing he wanted was to give Lucius the chance to use his Life Burning Forbidden Technique. Unfortunately, after all his careful planning, he was still a step too late and failed to control him before he could activate it.
This forbidden technique of the Blood Race was terrifying. It burned one-third of the user’s Life Force in exchange for a short-term, explosive increase in strength. Even if one survived, there would be severe aftereffects. He hadn’t expected Lucius to use it so decisively.
’I have two minutes at most. If I can’t finish Lucius in two minutes, I have to get out of here no matter what. I can’t drag this out until the Star Association arrives…’ The Puppet Master made up his mind, preparing for one last struggle.
「At this moment, behind the ruins at the edge of the battlefield.」
Zhou Chen cautiously peeked out, his gaze sweeping over the chaotic scene as he searched for any sign of Professor Charles.
The locator beacon indicated that Professor Charles had arrived here, but just like last time, there was no trace of him.
’Could he be on the ground? No, that’s not right. The Barrier is gone. If he were on the ground, I should be able to see the faint outline of the beacon if I look up…’ Zhou Chen quickly ducked his head back, dodging a flying piece of rock. He waved away the billowing dust and peeked out again, scanning the area.
The battle between the Blood Royal Prince and the Puppet Master grew even more intense. After the Blood Royal Prince went berserk and used his Life Burning Forbidden Technique, the Puppet Master actually brought out two more puppets, both Tier Three Ascenders, who coordinated to fight him.
The terrifying collision of high-Status Essence made space itself seem to tremble. This was especially true of the Blood Royal Prince’s “Twist” Ability, which left behind a vortex-like mark in the air with every use—a “scar” left on the spatial plane.
Just then, Zhou Chen’s focus sharpened. He saw numerous blurry, hazy objects beginning to appear on the battlefield. As they gradually came into focus, he could see they appeared to be various pieces of unknown, unassembled equipment.
Next to the equipment, a human figure also grew clearer. He wore a white lab coat and held a wrench. He looked young, only about eighteen years old, with slightly curly, brownish-blond hair, a high-bridged nose, and light green eyes that gave him a scholarly air.
Zhou Chen froze, utterly stunned.
He had previously made a wish to “peek” at Professor Charles, so he recognized him in a single glance! This was Professor Charles!
’But why is he here? Why did he appear like this? Is it because space has been affected? Was he in another dimension this whole time because of the Eternal Life Machine?’
Zhou Chen’s face was a mask of confusion and shock as all sorts of thoughts flashed through his mind.
Meanwhile, Professor Charles, whose figure had become completely solid as if he had fully “arrived” in this space, held his wrench and looked around with the same bewildered expression, as if he had no idea why he had appeared on this brutal battlefield.
The next second, a stray bolt of lightning shot past and pierced through Professor Charles’s body. His hair exploded outward, his chest was scorched black, and a charred, gaping hole was burned straight through him. Before he could even register what had happened, a high-speed, crimson storm swept over him, instantly mincing him into a pile of flesh and gore. The surrounding lab equipment was also torn into a shower of fragments.
A gruesome rain of shredded flesh and shattered metal rained down.
Zhou Chen’s mouth slowly fell open. He stared at the dramatic scene unfolding before him in shock and disbelief, wondering if he was dreaming.
’Holy fuck, Professor Charles was killed by the crossfire?!’
’Holy shit!’
Only one thought echoed in his mind now. This was just too absurd. Professor Charles, the man everyone was looking for, such an important figure, had just randomly appeared on the battlefield of high-Status beings and been randomly killed by the collateral damage?
’Fuck!’
’What kind of a joke is this?!’
“What was that just now…” The Puppet Master turned his head to look but only saw a sky full of metal fragments. He had sensed something arriving from another dimension just now, but he was too busy fighting the Blood Royal Prince to pay it any mind.
“It was Charles! It’s all your fault, you damned bastard! Charles was killed in the crossfire!” the Blood Royal Prince roared, his rage uncontrollable.
He had seen Charles’s file and knew what he looked like in his youth, so he had recognized him instantly as the man the Blood Race had been searching for for so long. But in the next second, Charles was shredded into dust by the aftershocks of their battle, as dead as could be.
Lucius looked like a madman, like a vengeful specter crawling out of a Blood Pool, filled with resentment. “You damned Abyssal Cultists! You’ve destroyed the Blood Race’s hope for greatness! I’ll make every last one of you die with him!”
