- Chapter 378 - 246: Golden Five-Clawed Dragon Boxer Shorts

It seemed like a perfectly ordinary night, but a subtle danger lay hidden within the silence.
The local Lanjing meteorological bureau had sent out several alerts. The spring rain was ferocious, a sudden downpour unlike anything in recent years.
The water level on the streets rose relentlessly, submerging the storm drains along the stone curbs. On the dim roads, a few lonely streetlights were no match for the pitch-black night, and a thick, watery mist blurred everything into a hazy mess.
Stranded cars on the road looked like drowning fireflies. Their windshield wipers swung back and forth, a futile and powerless gesture. Headlights strained to pierce the darkness and reach farther down the road, but it was all in vain.
Rescue workers rushed back and forth, soaked to the bone beneath their protective gear, but they had no time to care.
Fortunately, there were no accidents. It was a silver lining in an otherwise miserable, rainy night.
Chen Yuan’s decision to have the two sisters stay for safety reasons had been an absolutely brilliant one. Otherwise, they might have made it only a few streets before being forced to stop, well short of Fengting District in South City, with their car’s chassis completely submerged.
In a storm like this, even waiting for rescue meant getting in line. They’d be lucky to only get soaked to the bone. By the time they finally struggled their way home, they would have been a complete mess.
Now, the three of them were safe in the small but warm apartment. This torrential, rainy night was destined to be unforgettable, a time that would be kneaded into fragmented memories, both heartwarming and amusing to look back on.
Ten or twenty years from now, when they were no longer young, talking about this night would evoke a different kind of wistful nostalgia.
But the interesting thing about life is that you can’t simultaneously live in the moment and reflect on it.
Years later, Chen Yuan would look back on this night and regret not giving the remote to Jiang Yao. After all she had suffered, he should have been more generous to her to make up for his guilt.
“Give me the remote.”
In the cozy living room, Chen Yuan held out his hand, demanding it back.
“Let me finish this part, just a little longer…”
“How long has it been? Fifteen minutes ago, you said the golden-haired ’loser dog’ and the childhood friend were about to have their Asura showdown, but it’s still stuck on a flashback. This show is full of filler.”
“Just a little longer, just a tiny, tiny bit, we’re almost at the good part!” Jiang Yao sat on the remote, her eyes glued to the screen.
Chen Yuan reached over to fish it out, but she quickly lifted her round little bottom and deftly moved the remote to a new spot beneath her, evading his hand.
The soft approach wasn’t working; it was time to get rough. Seeing this, Chen Yuan just pinned her down. Even when she stretched her arm as high as she could, it was no use—Yaoyao’s reach was no match for his.
He easily snatched the remote back and quickly pressed a button. The screen instantly changed, and at the same time, Jiang Yao’s whimpering complaints filled the air.
“Heyyy…”
She shook Chen Yuan’s shoulder, then his leg, whining and trying to sweet-talk him.
When that didn’t work, she resorted to butting her head against his body like a little calf. It had zero offensive power; all it did was mess up her own hair. She begged Chen Yuan to let her watch just half an episode more—only half an episode. It was agonizing to have it cut off right at the most exciting part.
’The Asura showdown is really about to happen!’ She had been looking forward to it for so long, and the more she thought about it, the more she couldn’t stand the suspense.
Jiang Yao looked absolutely pitiful, her exquisite face wearing an expression that was indescribably captivating.
But Chen Yuan wasn’t falling for it. Without even looking at her, he held the remote high and engrossed himself in a nature documentary. His favorite meerkat family had just appeared on screen, deftly darting through the grass and running free under the open sky.
’Ah, that rush of wildness and freedom. This is what a real man should be watching.’
It wasn’t that Chen Yuan was clueless.
He was tired after a long day. His original plan was to come home, have some snacks, and finish the latest episode of this documentary he was following. He wanted to enjoy some quiet time alone with the sound of the rain outside, then take a shower and go to bed when he got sleepy, waking up refreshed for class the next day.
But the two sisters had completely shattered the evening’s peace, and he’d spent the last two hours talking himself hoarse trying to placate them.
’There’s nothing wrong with enjoying myself for a little while, right?’
Besides, Jiang Yao could watch the documentary with him. How meaningful was that? It was much better than some silly Asura showdown.
“Don’t you have a phone? You can use mine to watch,” he said, tossing his phone to Yaoyao.
“No, the screen is too small. You watch on the phone.”
“I don’t want to either.”
“Come on, just let me have it~ Young Master, let me watch for just five more minutes. I won’t go a second over, I swear. Look at my sincere eyes.”
“Uh-huh, I see them… I see them,” Chen Yuan said without even turning his head.
“You’re just humoring me!”
Jiang Yao grumbled internally for a good while. She threw a pillow aside, hugged her knees, and sulked by herself.
Resigned, she sat there silently while Chen Yuan ignored her. She stared at the screen for half a minute and was struck by how ridiculously boring it was. ’How can anyone enjoy watching little animals run around on the prairie? What’s so fascinating about that?’
Jiang Yao snuck a glance at him.
Chen Yuan had lowered his guard and put the remote down, resting it on his knee without a tight grip. An idea immediately popped into her head: she would sneakily snatch it back. Her eyes narrowed slightly, and the corners of her mouth curved into a smile.
She pretended to be nonchalantly playing with a pillow, pulling it toward her and pushing it away, while occasionally flicking her gaze toward the Young Master’s knee.
She unconsciously glanced at the ceiling, pouting slightly as her hand crept closer to Chen Yuan. The moment he completely let his guard down, Yaoyao snatched the remote with a speed that left a visible afterimage.
